The real "What is Holiday World up to?" thread

So which is the greatest invention? Woodies, wheels, or "Whiplash" (Metallica)? ;)

Haha no I'm not giving Patrick the finger

You'll have to forgive me. I was given that information by a park employee who's been around a while. ;)

I hear the wheel and fire were mere afterthoughts.

Yep, wheels were only invented when cavemen noticed a lot of friction on the first drop. Which was also how they discovered fire.

Back in the day when the P in PTC stood for Pleistocene.

So, back on track here:

Anyone think those photos in the latest blog were footers for a coaster or do you think Paula is teasing us again and they're for something else?

Sorry for what? What am I missing?
Oh for the slight OT detour I just took there ;)
To throw a little gasoline on the fire to see if we can break the 50 page mark by the end of the week there are a bunch of new construction pictures up on Negative-G including where I think and have heard that the new midway heading down to the new themed area will be.

I bet they put those footers in their to throw all of us off. They're just there for looks. Make us think its going to be a coaster. Paula wants to make us even more mad. ;)

i'm not sure what to put here..

Mad? As in ... insane? :)

Question for Paul ... you call "midways" what we call "walkways." I think of a midway as a plaza area where there's lots to do (games, food, etc.). How do you define "midway"?

To me a midway is a walkway through an amusement park. Midway, walkway I guess to me they're pretty interchangable where amusement parks are concerned. *** Edited 7/3/2005 9:31:01 PM UTC by Paul Drabek***

Id consider a midway as a carnaval that lines both sides of only ONE walkway. AKA a street carnival or Strickers Grove.

Walkways take you to the areas where atractions are located off of.

Anyhow, Thanks for the pics Paul

Chuck, who sees a lot of work being done in only the last week or so since his visit.

Maybe it is a regional thing but growing up in Chicago I always heard about walking down Riverview's midways. You had the Bobs which were referred to as "the monster of the midway" for example so I always grew up using the word midway as a walkway through an amusement park.

Well then again your right, I have heard of Midways as in Plural.

Ohio State Fair has several midways, Three of which are degignated for rides, others for livestock and still others for entertaiment and vendors.

Chuck

Not a big deal, of course ... just curious, as I've somehow misplaced my "Dictionary of Theme Park Terminology."

Happy Independence Day to everyone!

Thanks Paula. You and the rest of the staff and ownership of HW&SS have a very good safe and happy 4th.

Chuck, whos taking that as a hint of a extension of the Fourth of July section with the new coaster called .......................................................
THE FIRECRACKER!

:)

I guess that would work, but they once had a coaster called The Firecracker, if I'm not mistaken.
Hence the PUN :)
If the new themed area is Thanksgiving I want a "Stuffing In A Cup" Stand so I can get a regular fix of Thanksgiving turkey stuffing.

As defined by Dictionary.com-

Midway: The area of a fair, carnival, circus, or exposition where sideshows and other amusements are located.

So, a walkway in an amusment/theme park or fairground or circus, or exposition where sideshows and other amusments are located would be a midway. All of Holiday World would technically be a midway, as would anywhere else, as walkways are usually the areas where such attractions are located.

I dont' think it is a regional thing, I've always heard of inside of a park called a midway. Jeff always ends his emails with 'See you on the midways', so, while interchangable, a midway is acutally just the area of said park, fair, exposition, or circus.

Hope that clears it up :).
