So which is the greatest invention? Woodies, wheels, or "Whiplash" (Metallica)? ;)

Yep, wheels were only invented when cavemen noticed a lot of friction on the first drop. Which was also how they discovered fire.

Back in the day when the P in PTC stood for Pleistocene.

To throw a little gasoline on the fire to see if we can break the 50 page mark by the end of the week there are a bunch of new construction pictures up on Negative-G including where I think and have heard that the new midway heading down to the new themed area will be.

Question for Paul ... you call "midways" what we call "walkways." I think of a midway as a plaza area where there's lots to do (games, food, etc.). How do you define "midway"?

To me a midway is a walkway through an amusement park. Midway, walkway I guess to me they're pretty interchangable where amusement parks are concerned. *** Edited 7/3/2005 9:31:01 PM UTC by Paul Drabek***

Id consider a midway as a carnaval that lines both sides of only ONE walkway. AKA a street carnival or Strickers Grove.

Walkways take you to the areas where atractions are located off of.

Maybe it is a regional thing but growing up in Chicago I always heard about walking down Riverview's midways. You had the Bobs which were referred to as "the monster of the midway" for example so I always grew up using the word midway as a walkway through an amusement park.

Well then again your right, I have heard of Midways as in Plural.

Ohio State Fair has several midways, Three of which are degignated for rides, others for livestock and still others for entertaiment and vendors.

As defined by Dictionary.com-

Midway: The area of a fair, carnival, circus, or exposition where sideshows and other amusements are located.

So, a walkway in an amusment/theme park or fairground or circus, or exposition where sideshows and other amusments are located would be a midway. All of Holiday World would technically be a midway, as would anywhere else, as walkways are usually the areas where such attractions are located.

I dont' think it is a regional thing, I've always heard of inside of a park called a midway. Jeff always ends his emails with 'See you on the midways', so, while interchangable, a midway is acutally just the area of said park, fair, exposition, or circus.
