The real "What is Holiday World up to?" thread

Now it's obvious its a wood on steel TGG coaster. With all due respect, They would have had their announment two weeks ago and stiffeled this spoiler

None the less, Im still excited, There is much more going on than just that and honestly. I don't think any one announsment date has beeen more looked forward to from me in some 5 years.

Chuck, who was excited about Hades, Avalanche and others, Im just ITCHING for this one :)

Whoa Chigger, Shes headin for the woods!

Don't forget the free sunburn I got last month! (yeah, there's free sunscreen, but if nail polish were offered, then you shouldn't have to worry about free chiggers either!)

Alrighty, I wasn't going to mention it, but I'm going to shoot down the 'flowers = valentines day' theory right now. I made most of that image last year with the pictures my wife shot of the flowers while I was taking pictures of/riding the coasters. I finally dug up the files and finished it last week and thought Paula would enjoy it. She asked if she could post it. So no hidden hints there, though I wouldn't rule out Vday quite yet.

I've got a bigger file if anyone liked it though: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y210/cincydj/Flowers_of_Holiday_World.jpg

I still want to see a Tax Day section with an "Escape from the IRS" coaster. ;) I have a feeling that would mean a guarenteed audit for HW though. :(

My question is this: why does everyone think its a Gravity Group coaster? There are other wooden (and even more steel) coaster manufacterers in the world. How about Chance-Morgan? lol...

Too bad the long loved CCI is gone, its just terrible. CCI did both coasters in the park, and I think it would be nice to have them do the third.

But if it is a Gravity GRoup coaster, i see on there site that several of them worked for CCI... So that may be a good sign.

Another question: How did holiday world manage to get there coasters for so cheap? If Cedar Point built the raven, it would have cost $20,000,000.00.. Yet Holiday World can get one of the best in the world for $2,000,000.00... and even the lengend, much bigger than the raven and still under, what, $4,000,000.00??

did CCI give away those coasters or something? *** Edited 7/2/2005 5:03:03 AM UTC by Landon***

Landon Parks Holiday World Fan (HWF) from Bloomington, Indiana.
Landon, my understanding is that's part of the reason CCI went out of business. Their prices always seemed really low.

Landon, The gravity group is CCI's designers which is funny because the old owner of CCI worked for them on Hades. The only difference is they don't actually build the coaster themselves but can put the park in contact with the right people to get the job done.

HW and The TGG guys have had a working relationship for more than ten years now. TGG not only designs coasters but structural engineering for other rides and buildings as well. They designed the platform for Indiana Beaches Flying Crows over the lake as well as others.

Chuck

Landon, Raven ended up costing HW MUCH more than 2 million. I'd say somewhere between 6-8 to maybe 10 after it was all said and done. They basically had to structurally re-do the entire lift.
That's not correct...we've made improvements from year to year since The Raven opened in 1995, but nothing remotely close to that extent.

Moving to a two-train operation this year included some changes, but that was to be expected.

I've seen this rumor surface in the various forums off and on, but it's simply not accurate.

Just setting the record straight. No pounding.

Still a bit of scratching, though. Blasted chiggers...

Yeah and I bet Ravens made every dime back ten fold on whatever they've spent on it.

I doubt you'll be able to say that about TTD in ten years.

Chuck

Because TTD is a crappy Intamin rocket that Scooby swears by while we all swear at it! :-) But woodies are man's greatest inventions!! And woodies are a much greater investment for the world's most intellegent park owners like Holiday World.

I love wooden coasters too but "man's greatest invention?" That's quite an overstatement.
No, moosh, wooden coasters are the single greatest acheivement of mankind! Automobiles, shmautomobiles! Medicine, shmedicine! Plumbing, Smlumbing! Heck, not even Pink Floyd's awesome performance on Live 8 a couple hours ago reaches the magnitudealism of Wooden Coasters!

Get with the program, man! *** Edited 7/3/2005 4:58:58 AM UTC by TeknoScorpion***

I hear the wheel and fire were mere afterthoughts.
Pink Floyd IS the greatest band in the world but are they an invention? Not really just extreme talent and wrote the most beautiful piece of music ever written "Comfortably Numb"!! But yes I think woodies are man's greatest invention because they give great pleasure and I can't wait to see what kind of woodie HW is getting. *** Edited 7/3/2005 6:46:31 AM UTC by Pink Floyd Fanatic***

So what came first - the woodie or the wheel?;)
Greatest InVention? You have serious issues with your priorities.

Oh, and sMOOsh, Fire was a discovery ;). *** Edited 7/3/2005 7:39:46 AM UTC by TeknoScorpion***
