The real "What is Holiday World up to?" thread

You can drive from HW to IB without going thru Louisville. I've done it. Hwy 231 to Bloomington and up to I-70, then east to Indianapolis and continue north.
Well I'm going to finally throw my 13.5 million cents into the mud. I'm guessing a coaster, and a carousel for Holiday World and a nice slide tower for Splashing Safari. Oh and I rember making it from IB to HW in about 4 hours back in 2002.

Indy to HW??? I can do it in 3. It is 2 hours from here to Bloomington and then 45 minutes at most from there to Indy.

Several trips thru PA and OH have made me exceptionally gun-shy about getting off the Interstates...

Next time I'll try this 231 you speak of...and it'll probably have enormous amounts of construction. ;)

Gator - I drove it on an early Sunday morning post-SRM and only had to contend with some church traffic as the morning progressed. You do go thru many small towns so driving later in the day could prove frustrating.
Well when asking Paula which would be better, 231 or going back to Louisville, She recommended going back to Louisville and then North over the latteral 231.

Either way, I'ts about the same time wise. Driving mornings or evening you best we aware of wildlife.

Chuck, who thought he was in a obstical course from Louisville to Indy on I-65 at 7am

Actually, I recommend I-64 east nearly to Louisville and then I-265 to I-65 north to Indy.

Unless you're determined to drive fewer miles and more minutes, I'd stay away from U.S. 231.

I think thats what we did Paula, Anyhow, Thanks again, Two years in the future.

Google maps seems to REALLY overestimate driving times. My honeymoon directions to Gatlinburg said it took 6.5 hours to get there from Cincinnati. Even with stopping for an hour lunch, and another bathroom break, it still took us less than 6 hours. That also included really bad traffic getting through Sevierville.

DJ, I made Pigion Forge in 4hrs flat from Cincy.

Course the speed limit didn't apply but I was still being passed.

I got to HW from Louisville in less than 15 minutes(haha, time zones are so fun to play with).

I can get to Holiday World from Bloomington in just a little over an hour

But I have a secret route... lol

Wait till I-69 gets here, then I can go to Holiday World every day... ;-)

I get there in around an hour from Bloomfield, but Yahoo! and Google maps both say it should take me around two hours. Yeah, they're messed up.
Landon how did you do it (email me) and how fast were you going? I thought Warp Speed 11 was illegal in Indiana? Thankfully they are raising the interstate speed limit to 70 real soon.

THANK GOD! Do you know how hard it is for us Missouri drivers to drive that slow in IN? Our speed limit is 70 here, but that really means 80. :)

Of course it is nothing compared to driving in IL and those stupid FLATLANDERS. Honestly, is it necessary to barrel down the highway at 90+ mph and then slam on the breaks and crawl at 15 mph everytime you see a darn State Police on the other side of the highway. Learn to drive! I never seen so many people that cannot handle hills and curves living in one region (hence: Flatlanders).

Oh no you didn't go there Swoosh. :)

It is what it is, we like to drive fast, very fast, and 9 times out of 10, if you are going with the flow of traffic, the state troopers could care less.

When in Illinois(at least in the Chicago area), and from out of state, move the *%#*& over if you don't want to be a permanent fixture in the ditch. :)

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

Well, I usually drive 10mph over the speed limit anyway (on highway and interstate), so that cuts down the time a major amount. Plus I don't live that fare away, I think holiday worlds "Official time chart" list's Bloomington as 2hrs away by there calcualtion, which im more than sure are going the exact speed limit (unless paula, or whoever drives to test this is like me!), so really 1 hr 20 - 1hr 30 minutes is not that major of an achievment.

For the most part I go IN 37 to I-64, I-64 to IN 162 to Holiday World.

Plus I hardly ever take any rest stops, and I try to avoid times of heavy traffic. As I do when I'm going anywhere....

However, My next visit to Holiday World, I'm taking my g/f, who lives in Linton, so I will more than likly take IN 231 from Bloomfield to I-64, then over to IN 162, then to Holiday World... So we will see what time I make on this trip. *** Edited 7/6/2005 6:03:20 AM UTC by Landon***

I think the best map service is provided by expedia.com, they still don't give many alternative routes but at least the times and distances are fairly correct. Also there is a direct route frow HW to IB its US 231 till Lafayette then get on 43 then turn on 24 that is the easiest, along as you make sure you are on 231, From Indy to HW/SS its around 140 miles if you take 65 goin 65 or 70 (I suggest not speeding, cops got Camaro with LS2 and ticket happy) and no stops you should be there in just over 2 hours. I have practically the same drive except I am right on 231 south of Crawfordsville and it takes me a little longer but maybe 10-20 minutes and my drive is pretty, any car person or someone that loves driving can appreciate 231. GOOD LUCK and I am so taking this drive on the 12th. Could someone notify myself of somewhere cheap to stay that night?
Swoosh, you think it's hard going from 70 in MO to 65 in IL? Try going from 75 in CO, the non-mountainous portions, to 70 in KS.

Could someone tell me why in the world the speed limit in Kansas in only 70. I think they're just trying to get people to stay in their state just a little bit longer. It's not like the traffic is bad enough that it needs to be lower than eastern Colorado.

As a native Missourian and a present-day Coloradoan, you are basically a flatlander in Missouri. I don't care how big or how curvy those roads get down in the Ozarks. You haven't seen nuttin'!

On the other hand, I love the heard mentality of Chicago driving. Everybody is flying, therefore the chances of you being singled out for a ticket is greatly reduced. I just got in the middle lane and went with the flow, no matter how fast that flow was moving.
