something big comin to CP?

You know I'm not one to perpetuate rumors, but since I have no direct relationship with the park, and People Who Know(TM) are convinced it is an Intamin ride, I have to say that, yes, that's what we can expect.

First of all, what happened to Gianvanola's pivoting drop coaster a.k.a. VERTICAL DROP coaster? Could that be it? Does anyone see anything from the other rides, namely MF or Space Spiral? We could be looking at another coaster by the end of 2002......

They usually don't start building coasters until the end of the season, and then build them over the winter. It seems very odd they'd start building a new coaster, when Wicked Twister was *just* finished. They almost always alternate "big new ride" in one year, with "small ride or other infrastructure improvements" in another (like new hotel addition, new kids attraction, new flat ride like "Chaos", etc).

i say its a S&S TA2K design, it can fit anywhere, Dodonpa and Hypersonic both fly over the the park and paths etc..., and that little but of clearance I feel strongly is for the supports of the tower, (the verticle tower) and thats it, the rest of the ride like I said can be be built over anything.

S&S CP 2003

I wouldn't expect an S&S thrust air when Knotts just got an intamin rocket coaster.

I think that the rocket coaster would be a perfect fit for CP, something along the lines of Xcelerator, just taller and faster (break the speed record if they want). Not only that but Intamin could put more elements into this ride (Xcelerator was going to have a helix and another overbanked turn) to make it a decently long ride.

This would be yet another Intamin at Cedar Point, but who's going to argue that its a bad thing?

True, the fact that Knotts just got Xcelerator could lead one to believe that Cedar Point has a chance of getting one, but I beg to differ. I remember reading an interview with someone from Knotts before the ride was announced that they took alot of ideas in the design from Millenium Force. And think about it, if you take away MF's first hill, and Xcelerator's first hill, you find two very similiar rides, except one is extremely larger, and longer than ther other. ;) Almost as if Xcelerator is a mini-MF. So basically what I'm thinking is that Millenium Force was a pre-cursor to Xcelerator, instead of Xcelerator being precursor to some other ride at Cedar Point.

Did SFWoA officially announce that it will be an Intamin hyper? I assumed it would be since I heard that an employee from Six Flags said last year that it would be Intamin.

X-cellerator has indeed tested to about 100mph. The reason is to test it at the maximum conditions. Launched coasters often have the potential problem of misfires (Hypersonic did it I believe) and the track needs to be checked in case of this.

It would never be intentionall run at this speed once opening however because the G-Forces would likely be too much. I severly doubt it would ever misfire to such an extentr but they do need to test everything. Dondopa hit something like 114mph at one stage I think.

A few points/opinions/questions:

The Fronteir Lift was removed to make way for Iron Dragon. The Fronteirtown station for the ride still exists (it's now the restroom facility right off the Mine Ride exit).

I don't think CP is ready to bulldoze the Fronteir Trail. It's faaar too nice in that area of the park. I would hope to think they wouldn't scar that area of the park (with all its natural beauty) like they did when they built Mantis.

What was "Earthquake"? (I remember it being there but never went on it)

In Monty Jasper's Wicked Twister Diary, he said (in the last entry) "maybe we'll talk again in a couple of years." To my best recollection, Wicked Twister was built this year. That would make the next coaster installation at CP 2004 (at the earliest). Why would he say that if he didn't mean it? I don't think he was trying to pull one over on us.

I guess we'll just all have to wait and be pleasantly surprised or disappointed with whatever they give us for next year.

"Earthquake" was similar to the Pirate Ride. A fun-house type ride, where you sat in a little car and were carried by little dioramas and stuff, and a little ways in, an earthquake hits, and things almost fall on you, and you're jerked around a bit. It was sorta fun in an old carnival sorta way.

Which reminds me of another couple of rides that are gone (to make way for kid arthur's court): The original fun house (that you walked through), and "The Rotor" (the spinning room with the floor dropping out and sticking you to the wall ride).

And The Tiki-Twirl is no longer around any more, if I recall correctly.

my 2 cents...It's a Top Spin
Its not going to be a coaster. it wouldnt make much sense to put in a coaster mid-season right after you just opened 1. i hope it is a coaster though

Raptor rules the sky!!!!

honestly, if it was any other park other than cp i would say that it was not a coaster but looking at the product that cp's competition is building down the road it becomes clear to me that the park may find it necessary to build a "world class thrill" to gain a "one up" on sfwoa.

seek first to understand
then to be understood

All CP needs as far as variety in Coasters go is a CCI. They have everything, in basic, besides a real smooth woodie with lots of airtime. Now, Blue Streak is a classic with tons of airtime, but it's aging, and I actually like Mean Streak for fun, but they'd have everything if they get a CCI.

Since Cedar Point already has pretty much everything, the only thing they dont have is a CCI. Would Cedar Point ever be intersted in getting a CCI for there next project? I think a CCI would be nice for Cedar Point, if it is count on it to be a record breaker ;).

"Yeah, but to build on the beach, they take out a section of the beach. To build on frontier trail, they take out trees and sections of frontier trail / frontier town. In the kiddie area? You're kidding me, right? CP does too have a space problem. They can't just drop down a "Beast" sized wooden coaster there any more. Or at most one more, if it's very carefully designed. Look at the hoops they had to jump through to get the Millenium Force to fit in those tight spots! The space on an island is just plain limited. Stating a fact that they are running low on space is not the same as saying they're totally out of space."
i dont think any park can build a Beast size coaster. It is a sparwling giant.

Yeah, CP is jealous that they don't have a modern maintenance nightmare! I can see it now "Hey, we need a ride that we can close down for months at a time just like SFMM"

Not only the maintenance issue, but Arrow is in Bankrupcy protection, and I can't see anyone buying any rides from Arrow until they get themselves straightened out.

I think it is too soon for another coaster, so I'd bet on a large flat ride. Maybe a Huss Giant ride like the Delirium that interacts with water jets? That would be unique to the area and very marketable as 2003's new thrill ride, as it is big and impressive-looking.

For all we know, it's the world's largest SNOOPY statue!

I would like someone to prove to Me that Cedar Point isn't running out of room. Like an aerial view showing somewhere with adequete enough space for say.....A B&M Flyer (About Superman's Size).
Because I would really like to see. Because by the looks of it, that Peninsula looks like it can only handle so much on it's land.

How do you get your information? I see a lot of people on this site who speculate and think they know everything about these rides. I just want to know, how do you figure?
