something big comin to CP?

It could be a coaster, SFMM has 15 (if they are working) and CP has 15 and CP always wants to stay on top, so?

Get to the Point

Actually, CP has always been on top, SFMM only had 14 1/2 coasters before, now they have 13 1/2, and CP has 14 (-WT) Look at these corperate parks... :) J/K!

NOW. Go get a CP map RIGHT NOW. NOW. Bring it up on the internet or something! Look over by Gemini. See the green space where Dodgem 1 used to be? That could be the station. Then, the rest could cross over the midway and on to MF Island, therefore, it is possible.

However I think it is extremly improbable since CP has to get a record breaking coaster. (Record Breakers Are More Expensive. [usually] ) They just got a coaster for 2002. Like they'll get one for 2003. Speaking of restrooms, those Xcelerator hand dryers are so cool! (for those who haven't been to CP, the air comes out at like 80mph, LOL)

Why do they report power outages on TV?

Yea those hand dryers rock!!! And they're so loud!! Scared the living daylights out of me the first time I used em

Okay, I know that a lot of you have personally invested a lot of time and energy in this "running out of room" argument (that goes for people on both sides of the argument), but frankly I think you all need to let it go. If it truly is a problem, it isn't our problem...there isn't much we can do about...other than sit back and see how CP deals with it. So just let it go. Sit back, relax and watch the masters (CP management) at work.

Happy Coastering!

Excellent point. We can argue all we want about Cedar Point's so-called "space problem", but it's the park that has to deal with it if it exists. We just reap the benefits.

Yeah but arguing over CP's space problems makes for good entertainment at work ...

I'd rather argue about what is going into Area 51 (NOT)

But it is fun to read about all the ideas. Generally these don't get going until well into the season. Having Area 51 blocked off and so visible got things going early.

Umm... what have they removed, in favor of new attractions in the last decade, other than the things we talked about?

92 - Nothing removed. Challenge Park opens.
93 - Mill Race removed. Snake River falls opens. Carousel moved.
94 - Nothing removed. Raptor opens. Calypso moved. Jungle Larry concessionaire quits.
95 - Frontier Carousel moved to Dorney, CP still has two others. Soak City expanded.
96 - Nothing removed. Mantis opens.
97 - Nothing removed. Chaos opens.
98 - Nothing removed. Power Tower, Froghopper open.
99 - Nothing removed. Camp Snoopy, new go-kart tracks, open.
00 - Kid Arthur's Court removed. Millennium Force opens. Giant Wheel moved.
01 - Nothing removed. Lighthouse Point opens.
02 - Dodge'em sent to Michigan's Adventure. Wicked Twister opens.

So in all that time, each removal is either the moving of a ride to another park or a duplicate of another ride. Some things were changed as well (namely restaurants).

So out of all those, the only thing that was a unique "ride" was Kid Arthur's Court, which by most accounts wasn't popular anyway. To answer your question, "When was the last time they didn't remove something to make way for a new ride," tak your pick.

Jeff, I am glad you finally put it all in writing. Of course, that won't shut the naysayers up.

*keeping away from the CP 'room' debate*

Jeff, as far as Dick and Stan being 'friends', i primarily meant professionally, as in they have a good working relationship after the debacle that was 'vertigo' or whatever it was called.... they have a mutual respect for each other and it seems as though Dick would very easily give Stan another chance to make it right (if said chance was a sound business decision, of course). On the other hand, i think that Stan would try to work with CP any way possible to 'kiss and make up'... well, of course, these are just ramblings from an enthusiast, so take 'em with a grain of salt, these are just points we can mill over... no biggie... besides

no, i haven't been to japan or virginia yet, but i would still love a towering Thrust Air at CP... and Jeff, the Thrust Air ride you've had, must have been before the modifications, so, maybe the ride has improved

On the matter described by CoasterFunk, here's a quote : "They better make it up to us."

Take it for what you will, it was said by one of the many people who make decisions at CP.

Sorry, Jeff, you left out a few things. Very convenient for your argument, but doesn't mesh with reality. Jungle Larrys was taken out. And that "jet air planes" ride over by Blue Streak was taken out when Raptor was put in. Aquarium taken out. Frontier Lift was taken out. Paddlewheel excursions moved. And that's just off the top of my head.

It's gonna be the world's largest Ham on Rye with cheese. ;)

You forgot to mention the Barenstien Bears,or whatever they were called.

A new Thrust Air......fastest coaster.

Jungle Larry was not "removed..." the family that continued after Larry's death decided not to do it anymore. The area sat empty for what, two years?

The aquarium was no longer in use (other than as a video arcade) and had declining visitation after the dolphins died.

As for a "jet air planes" ride, I have no idea what you're talking about.

Your question "When was the last time they didn't remove something to make way for a new ride," has still been adequately addressed. I offered a dozen examples showing how it wasn't true.

I don't know, but I bet Joe Carroll does!

Frontier Lift was taken out after the 1986 season to make room for Iron Dragon. What I heard from one of the workers at Jungle Larry's was that the family had a 25-30 year contract that expired. They did not want to sign a new one because of the small space and the screams of coasters that were not there when the contract was originally signed. And, no, this did not come from the Lemon Chill guy... but one of the keepers the last year it was there.

Not to mention but Mean Streak (1991) and Magnum (1989) were put in without tearing anything down.

After Jungle Larry passed away, his wife and son kept the attraction going. Their home base was/is in Naples, Florida. Every spring, the family would pack up the animals and head up north and every fall the family would pack up and head back south. Mrs. Jungle Larry had enough and that was that. The area did sit "empty" for a couple of seasons. It was an employee break area and also was the home the the Employee Services Department (ESD) that plans the social events for employees.

Yes, the Frontier Lift was taken out but ridership declined there in the later years. Does anyone remember the bugs that use to permeate that ride? You couldn't get away from that and it was real unappealing.

I think he may be referring to Jumbo Jet but I can't recall much about that ride...

I think Spryboy is referring to the Satellite Jets. But, he's providing even more evidence against himself. That ride was removed long before Raptor ... the last season was 1986. Frontier Lift was removed after the 1985 season, a couple of years before Iron Dragon.

The Jumbo Jet was located where Disaster Transport is now. There was a Rocket Ride, but it was located next to the arcade (where kiddie rides are now). I've got a picture of the rocket ride here. (BTW, if you look closely you'll also see the double ferris wheel in the background).

When they removed the Frontier Lift, there were two ways to walk to Frontier Town, as well as the train ride. Makes sense to me to replace it with a family coaster.

When they removed Mill Race, they had a duplicate water ride in Frontier Town. Makes sense to me to replace that with Raptor.

I much prefer WT over the old aquarium turned arcade.

Berenstien Bears area is still there, just rethemed to Snoopy.

Yes, CP has removed rides over the years, but they've always replaced them with something even better. Would you rather those old rides back and have no WT, Iron Dragon or Raptor??
