GADV Intamin Rocket Track on site

100% sure it is a rocket. That is rocket launch track on site.
Ah, a suggestion to you all regarding the tracklength. Anybody interested in knowing about a possible mistake regarding the announced length, walk down and back with a 10 dollar heartrate and distance monitor. I hope that small bit of information clues you guys in to what I already know.

;-)

no...it doesn't...

Fate is the path of least resistance.

I think it'd be hard to judge track length just by measuring the length of the markers, as you have no idea how tall it could be and what radius pull out it will have.

You know, this seems like a good time to pull the "Those who talk don't know, and those who know don't talk". But I'll let someone else do it. ;)

It's rocket. That track has the trough for the catch train to run in.

Don't forget that GAdv. has/had two log flumes.

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

I do have a very good idea how tall it is going to be, (to the inch infact) and by finding out how long it is going to be, (because any idiot looking at the markers can see that it is launch tophat breaks) you can play with different towerheights (just to make this easy asume that the pullouts are just 90 degree angles) and see that the tower would have to be like 200 feet tall if the announced length is the actual track length.

Those who are in a position to lose their jobs don't talk, those who are not, might just let something slip.

Start booking those hotels for next year people...

Whats so bad about SFGAdv having another launcher? PKD has 3, and they certainly arent yanking out XLC, no matter how shoddy it has managed to run the past 3 years. Bring on the rocket !!!
As much as I think this new ride will be great for New Jersey, I would never book a hotel and plan a trip around a rocket coaster, I'd be a fool.

However, when this new rocket breaks in, and compliments their *next* ride, I'll be more than happy to book that hotel.

People who attack others due to something like a typo should slam on the brakes, look where they are going in life, and rethink how important the petty things are before sombody breaks them in two.

I know how tall it is... I also found one typo in your post as well as a grammatical error. I am sure you know all different sorts of information despite your careless attempt at trying to shame me on the internet. I wonder how many problems there were in the post before you edited it. As you can see, this is un-edited going out the way it is because I don't care if there is a mistake in what I type the first time. If you really want to know how tall the damn thing is and can't stand to "not be in the know" get a job at Six Flags so you can confirm to these wonderful people here what I already know.

Honestly, I am just trying to stir things up a little bit. In the real world it doesn't matter if the worlds tallest and fast rollercoaster is at Great Adventure or Cedar Point or if Great Adventure is getting a giant paperweight shaped like TTD. We talk here because this is a hobby that we all find fun. Lets keep it that way.

Coasterbruh wonders if people actually read their own post.............

There are no bad coasters, only better coasters!!

Umm, buddy...time for a wake-up call.

This is going to come as an absolute shock to you, I know...but I've been made privy to some information about next year's coaster too. I've been given some numbers to crunch in my head too. Shock over. But let's think about a few things first:

a) I haven't mentioned what I've been told for two reasons: firstly, all the information I've received has been speculation; secondly, I was told these things in confidence. No matter how certain things appear, we don't know for sure yet. I'm sure someone on here knows everything exactly, but that guy is not me and it's not you (though it's probably Clint) so let's get serious. You're not the great grand CBuzz leaker. Get over yourself.

b) What exactly are you gaining by giving everybody little teases? If you've been given information from sources within SFGAdv, then you know you can't actually say anything because you'll inevitably be cut off by your sources for having loose lips. So it all boils down to the fact that you said something in order to, as you so astutely put it, "shame [us] on the internet." If this really means that much to you, then you (again, to use your own words) "should slam on the brakes, look where [you] are going in life, and rethink how important the petty things are before somebody breaks [you] in two."

T-Bird made the point of bringing up the classic adage, "Those who know don't talk, and those who talk don't know." So stop making yourself fodder for justifiable attacks because the rest of us just aren't impressed and you're making it way too easy.

Well, I can tell you one thing, the track length everyone is refering to is wrong.

Just wait until the announcement, it's not that far away, just wait a couple days / weeks. They are not going to pull a Cedar Point and announce it in January.

Hey, just to be clear: are these allusions to the fact that a) It will have to break the height record due to the short appearance of the launch area, or that b) The length will be different than originally released?

This is the guy, behind the guy, behind the guy
Since that launch is so small, and if this is a height record breaker, the launch is going to be wicked forceful. Insanely so.
Perhaps the track length being referred to does not include vertical length? Just a guess ...

For whatever reason, if this does prove to top TTD, I'll be somewhat disappointed.

You guys foget how the industry works. The papers could have very well been signed before Xcelerator even opened. There IS a couple year turn-around time on these rides.

That could be true, only if the Rocket Coaster concept wasn't originally designed specifically to fit Knott's Berry Farm's request for an energy efficient catapult system that could get the vehicles to clear a 200+ hill in a very short amount of launch track. That's where Cedar Point management realized it would be the perfect ride concept to break new speed and height records. Thus, Top Thrill Dragster.

You guys are all talking about the launch track but you are forgetting the brake run. TTD already has what I would consider to be very strong braking.

I doubt that Intamin would want to get more forceful with the brakes, so a coaster faster than TTD would need a longer brake run. This is another limitation that the length of track runs into, and another reason I'm very skeptical of this ride being a record breaker. My guess is it will be about 300' tall. *** Edited 8/13/2004 5:03:19 PM UTC by Pete***

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks, than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

No, actually TTD doesn't have strong brakes. A significant number of the brake fins were removed before the ride opened. Those gaps in the brake fins weren't originally there, the tracks were topped with solid copper plates. The brakes on TTD are more than adequate, and if it weren't for the lenght of track needed for the launch (and maybe even that isn't totally necessary - TTD does lack the punch of SR and Xcel at the takeoff) then the TTD brake run could have been much shorter. I think that a lot of the length of TTD's launch/brake track has to do with where CP wanted to place the station and the tower. Just my opinion tho ...

I can't understand why anyone would want to build another dragster coaster with all the trouble they have with it.
