Is this going to be the more *traditional* top hat, that does NOT invert, a la Xcel and TTD (and H:XLC), or the more interesting (and fun!) ride available presently on B:TC and Freeze? Makes sense to have the OTHER kind to complement B:TC (assuming it runs again...;)), but then again, the world's highest inversion could be had at considerably less height than TTD, making for an interesting marketing angle....
Thoughts?
You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)
Wouldn't people in the SFGAdv "area" be just as interestd in a 300' coaster as they would be with a 420'+ coaster. It isn't like they have another 300' coaster in the park that "needs" to be topped.
A record braking label is nice, but I don't think it's needed.
Judging by SF Inc's cap ex for next year, I would be surprised if they blew enough for this worlds tallest record breaker some people claim is coming. That extra money would probably do jack to help people's impression of the thing. 300/100 or 450/150 people will still say the same thing "damn that's tall/fast" It's funny....some folks in this thread remind me of years past when people swore on a stack of bibles that their park was getting some end-all record breaker, and it turned out to not be so.
I'm just waiting for the folks that will say that say that is was a 400 foot coaster, but when TTD came out they tacked a few extra feet on board, just like the MF/SD2K nonsense rumor ;)

I'm not saying I do know, I'm not saying I don't. But either way, there are people on this board who are wrong, and there are people on this board who are right.
But when it comes time to find out the truth, people are going to have egg on their face, which ever way they swing, when they find out that what they've been demanding is going in there/is not going in there ends up in there/not in there.
Why do you think I've never said either way (other than its a rocket, god I hope I don't have to eat those words;)) what Is going in there or not... *** Edited 8/16/2004 6:22:46 AM UTC by TeknoScorpion***
Why is the height / speed records important? Lets see here... Perhaps because of media reaction. I've been to one coaster media day that when the media heard it went less than 70 MPH said that it was "so slow compared to that one in Cedar Point" and that it just "crawled along" compared to the speed of Top Thrill Dragster. And while coaster enthusiasts may enjoy other rides more, the general public hears on TV that a new ride is "good, but not as good as this other cool thing at SFGAdv!" and it means that people start getting interested about the park and what the Six Flags by them hold.
The amount of publicity that having the tallest / fastest ride receives makes it worth easily another few million dollars. In all honesty, it is kind of surprising to me that Six Flags parks haven't built more tallest / fastest rides in the past like Cedar Point because it would stand to benefit them more than Cedar Point, which is only known as one park (What I mean is that when someone that is not an enthusaist hears "Cedar Point" they do not automatically think, "Hey, Worlds of Fun is right by me!" but when they hear "Six Flags Great Adventure" most can automatically think, "Hey, there is a Six Flags within a few hours of where I live!")
If it is tallest / fastest, the chain has a lot to gain -- but it comes at a sizable risk. The entire company's future could be riding on the successful "launch" of this new ride and the subsequent sonic boom it could send through the media. If it suffers the same fate at TTD has -- remaining unstable as a ride and newsworthy for negative things -- the entire chain is now going to get a big black eye.
If this thing is as big as is rumored, expect next year to be a really interesting year for Six Flags...
Oh, and Peabody, I'll take you up on that bet, and raise you $5.:)
I haven't been following this that close, but what am I missing?

Uh. I don't think you got the gist of my post. I said that I'd be surprised if this new coaster topped 300 feet, which would mean that if it WERE higher than 300 feet, it WOULD most likely be a "launch-tophat-brakes" ride - seeing as it has less track length than even Storm Runner. This coaster will most likely be something similar to Storm Runner in terms of what it does. A launch, top-hat under 250 feet, and one or two ride elements which may consist of inversions, hills, or turns before it hits the brakes. And WHAT track layout are you talking about? Are there already footers in a giant U-shape that would indicate it would be a launch-tophat-brakes layout? NO.
Actually, I did misinterpret your post. The layout I was referring to were the surveyor markings on the ground. The pictures I saw look very much like a L-TH-B layout. Storm Runner's track is not even close to being straight on the side with the inversions. The cobra loop is the biggest culprit. I'd be surprised if they put in something like Storm Runner. If that were the case, they'd have a launched ride into a ~200 foot or so top-hat with 3 or so inversions. In my opinion, this would be silly. Why ? Because you have a 200 foot high dueling launched coaster on the other side of the park. Even so, with SR's limited maneuvers, it still needs 2600 feet of track. I think the only argument that holds weight AGAINST this being a record breaker is the argument of the general public not knowing/caring about it being a record breaker since the average person that goes there does not even know about CP or TTD. Whether or not they thought it was worth the extra money for the extra hype / media attention is something we'll find out.
Enthusiasts make up how much of a parks total attendance?:)
I dunno, exactly one month from today sounds good to me. What about you guys?
By that time, the spinning cars will have already arrived and the huge surprise will be blown. :)

I would like to thank Tekno, Jeff and TalonJosh for watchin' my back on that one. I owe ya guys a beer
Sorry, no go. I'm a minor :).
As for the announcement question, I am thinking in October sometime, around the time they announced Superman.
