Flying Turns Update

I don't think the park really cares if the ride doesn't increase attendance because the park is awesome and thats what brings in the crowds. As far as capacity on the ride, im sure it will be an upcharge like black diamond and when i was at the park in early june nobody was riding it at all. For all the people that are complaining about it, my suggestion is dont go to the park! I for one won't care because it will be less people in line for the other great rides they have. KG is the best park with or without flying turns!

That, ladies and gentlemen, was brought to you from a very nostalgic rebuilt Commodore 64 with dial up modem. ;-)

Jeez, Gonch, stop going to Knoebels all the time!

I, for one, couldn't care any less about FT. I'll ride it when I get there. I didn't really 'get' Knoebels when I went, I'm going back for PPP this year most likely, but I honestly don't care about BD or FT at this point, other than as credits. Love me some Phoenix and Twister, though.

The best part about PPP is hanging with friends and drinking some brews.

Whether or not that happens within the walls of a very musty, mesothelioma cabin or not, doesn't matter.

I think I'm still sick. And the birdhead didn't help.

For the record, "birdhead" had nothing to do with me. Although I was one of the few people at that party who *didn't* get it.

Boy, howdy, I'll say, gamerguy.

There's something to "complain" about at every park, but we're still gonna go. Nobody's saying Knoebel's is a crappy place, or they don't deserve the business they get on account of one loooong project.

As far as the unusual interest amongst fans goes, I think I can explain. I only have one example to go by, and that would be the Flying Turns at Euclid Beach. But it was considered a right of passage among Cleveland youth, right up there with the Thriller. It was the tallest ride they had, and it really was a blast. It was slightly different than other models, as the rest were smaller versions. Knoebel's was quoted as saying the EB ride was pushing the envelope, which I don't quite get, i feel it would have been no less of a challenge to reproduce. I liken this new ride more toward Riverview's, which I believe was moved from a World's fair in New York. (I guess back then not only were they able to build these in an off-season but they could successfully move them as well!)

Ok, anyway, the point is they were pretty much revered back in the day as a different, thrilling type of coaster when builders were trying novel ideas with only wood to work with. Fast forward to the early 80's, late 70's maybe, when coaster enthusiasts were treated to the information that a new Flying Turns was on the way, only made of steel. Arrow was working on a model, as well as Intamin. The first to open was Intamin's version as Screamin' Delta Demon at Opryland in Nashville. Anticipation was high, but reviews were not. There were enough of us around that still remembered the original rides and we were disappointed. And until Cedar Point's enlarged version appeared, the layout never strayed from the original, if you've been on one Intamin Bobsled you've been on em all. Btw, Arrow's version never materialized, thank god. It was one convoluted concept complete with these odd u-shaped guide bars to hold the car in place on the track. Mack, the other version we see today, came later.

So, when Knoebel's, who many of us consider the keeper of all things authentic, announced the plan to build an original ride we rejoiced again. Well, gator and I did, anyway. I was slightly skeptical knowing the same team who 'reproduced' Mr.Twister was in charge, and as we've waited (and waited) I've grown more so. I would like to think that the debut of this ride would be the answer to what we've so far hoped in vain for, but from what I've seen it looks doubtful. The whole thing seems over-thought and over-wrought.

The three lift thing is astounding to me. The concept should be simple, it worked for decades before. Haul it to the top, let it go, and stop it at the bottom. Blocking, schlocking. Put one on the slow lift, one in the load/unload position, (they were separate) and one on the way down to a block break at the end. There's your blocking. (It will work for Banshee and it should work here, too.) No pesky interruptions to an already short ride should be required.

Sorry for the length here, but hopefully this rant serves to illustrate how I TOTALLY get the 'Flying Turns' part of it. What I don't get is how nobody can seem to get there for me. But I'll board this ride for the first time with excitement and an open mind. If I wind up not liking it so much it's ok, I can always stand in line with gamerguy to ride Phoenix, the dark ride, Roto Jets, Looper, Flyers, and the Dodgem.

Wake me up when it gets off the drawing board.....if my aunt had nuts she'd be my uncle

Planning While the architectural renderings and design concepts are just visionary ideas at this point .......... if the plan lures investors and developers, it could be an economic windfall for the township.

They're trying to sell Jackson's centralized location to Philly NYC and the shore, but the thing is, it's not really convenient to any of them.

The only other thing up there is a the obiquitous Tanger Outlet.
