So arguing the merits of something that doesnt exist, is a valid argument?
But arguing the reasons for it's non existance isn't?
Chalk me up as one who totally gets Knoebels. For a family it's nice to not have your wallet 300 dollars lighter just for getting out of the car. We go with a large group of people (heading out this Sunday coming back Mon night) with the adults having varying degrees of enthusiasm for going on rides, so you can choose your price point accordingly.
It's shaded, it's cool and there aren't ridiculously long wait times. Operations are efficient and the food is decent and reasonably priced.
I can sort of understand people "not getting it" but I think you are overthinking it. Knoebels is the "neighborhood hardware store" they're not trying to be the Home Depot of amusement parks.
I don't understand the whole Disney thing, with grown people making that the centerpiece of their vactation, but that's why they make chocolate and vanilla.
I was with you until your last sentence. I "get" Knoebels and Disney. And all the big chains like Cedar Fair and Six Flags.
And I put "get" in quotes because I'm really not sure what there is to get...in all cases.
Because, Vater, if you don't care for something that others like, then clearly you just don't get it. And you shouldn't talk about it, either.
It all seems so obvious.

Also, you can only like one thing, or at the very least, one type of thing.

Have you seen this thread, by the way?
Heh. Just checked the "Hotel In Jersey" thread and this actually worked!
I just pulled the forum equivalent of pointing behind someone and saying excitedly, "Hey! Look over there!" and when they turn around to look, running the other way.

I think I was the first in the recent conversation to say I don't 'get' it. (quotes and all)
Here's my logic:
Stating that I don't like something in that manner puts the onus on me. If I say something sucks, I'm challenging you. You like it, I disagree. Let's go.
Saying that I don't 'get' it flips the burden back to me. I know Knoebels is a beloved little park and that the Flying Turns makes all the right people wet. Clearly, I'm the odd man out. So I try to acknowledge that a bit by putting it on myself. I'm conceding that, based on the general consensus, Knoebels clearly doesn't suck. It me that doesn't get it.
I so want to say your explanation sucks right now. Or at the very least that I don't get it.
But neither is true.

I get Disney somewhat for families with young children.... what I don't understand is an adult or adults choosing to vacation there.
I don't get why you make so many successive posts instead of just editing and adding.
It must really baffle you that I visit at least once a week now that I live down the street.
And I get Knoebels, but the further I live from it, the less I care about it. It just ain't destination material to me.

Don't Fl residents get free passes or something? I'm talking about grown adults spending what it would cost to go to a real Hawaiian island to vacation in a contrived Hawaiian island. I honestly dont get it, especially when there are no kids involved.

That's kind of how I am with Cedar Point... we started out wanting to go there this year, but other than the park what is there to do in Sandusky? Didnt seem like a whole lot to do there.

If you really think that Florida residents get free passes or that people mistake the Polynesian for actually going to Hawaii, there's no point in responding to you.

I'm exaggerating. There's a discount for FL residents, no? Unless my uncle was BSing me.
I didnt say mistake... I said spend as much, or more money, than a visit to the actual place would cost. I don't get it. I was there recently, could care less if I ever go again..

No one is paying more to stay at the Polynesian than they are to fly, and stay, in Hawaii, and no one goes there for the same reasons that they would go to Hawaii. Your strawman arguments are completely ridiculous.
