Flying Turns Update

So getting there, eating, and going to the park(s) was too large of a leap of logic for you, in a discussion about "going to Disney".... albeit an off topic one. This is supposed to be a Knoebels FT thread, Heading out Sunday morning, can't wait!

Getting there, eating and going to parks wasn't what you posted. Spending six grand to stay at Port Orleans is what you posted. So noted: in the future I will make a series of assumptions as to what you post about when answering.

Count me as another person who does not get Knobeles. All the talk out there is that it is a park with classic attractions in the woods. Growing up in New Hampshire, I immediately jumped to thinking it was going to be like Canobie Lake Park or Kennywood. Knobeles was less like those parks and more like a fair out in the woods. There was no over reaching feel that you were in a park, it looked so temporary and at least the day I went the place was dirty. The employees looked like carnies, and no one cared. On top of that the Phoenix turned into a huge disappointment. My visit there was quite honestly the biggest let down Ive ever experienced as an enthusiast in a park (not my worst day, that belongs to Astroworld, but my expectations for that park were far lower.)

The park has a great flyer, bumper cars, carousel and a fun quirky haunted mansion, but thats about it in my book. I dont know when I will get back, but it will never be a place that I go too far out of my way to visit.

Oh stop.. there was some context to be gleaned there, that you completely missed, in trying to have your little perceived gotcha moment.

Re Knoebels being dirty etc... That's part of the reason I like it, I think. It reminds me of Wildwood I grew up with before Moreys homogenized everything. You had weird side shows, live actor haunts, and the whole thing seemed a little sketchy.

As far as not liking Phoenix. I don't know, it's not the tallest or fastest or anythingest... it's just fun IMO and plenty reridable.

Guess what is "the tallest and fastest or anythingest"...

It's not funny coming from you. That's Vater's thing. Stop it.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Sorry Vater. Please don't use the force to choke me.

Nope. Vater = drumsticks.

I must be weird or something. I am spending a week in Orlando at a Hilton timeshare and the Hard Rock, then two weeks later driving across the state to camp at Knoebels.

No, you got it right. Love Orlando parks & Knoebels. I'm lukewarm to the Six Flags & Cedar Fair type parks (Cedar Point excluded).

Today's lesson for Tyler:

Vader with a "D"...Darth in Star Wars, "force" joke falls flat because....

Vater with a "T"..frequent, funny, and knowledgeable CB contributor. Also the moniker of a pretty decent former pro wrestler.

Lesson concluded, class dismissed.

I keep picturing Tyler as Justin Bieber. When he doesn't look like Wesley Crusher.

The wrestler used "Vader" as well.

Vater is a brand of drum sticks.

I'm nothing like jbiebs because I'm hilarious, talented, intelligent, and good looking, and he is not.

I love love love Knoebels but I get why some people aren't into it. This kind of blows my mind, though. To me, visiting Knoebels is one of those most evocative, specific, well-defined "places" you can visit in the hobby. The over reaching feel of it, to me, is just about the best part.

To Gonch, Gator and Vater (sounds like a shady law firm)..

My bad, I thought the wrestler used a "T." I also never heard of Vater drumsticks.

I love it too, I remember my first visit there and I was just enchanted. I like the haphazard layout of the park, it seems so "back in the day" or something. I mean, how ever many years ago the park was started with a few attractions place here and there, and it seems like they just continued on and on in that mode. While its not slick and glossy like the big parks, I never once feel like I'm on a state fair midway when I'm there. Rather, I get the feeling that I'm at a permanent park, for sure.
I think what contributes to the carnival feeling there is the fact that there's a road that runs right thru it. When I first started going there cars actually traversed that road. Now that it's blocked off during the season it made room for portable flats like Power Surge and I'll agree that they did little to hide the fact that a truck dropped the thing and it's trailer off right there. But somehow it works better there than at similar parks, say, like Beech Bend. (one of the most tacky "carnival" parks I've ever seen)
While I don't think I'd pick Knoebel's as the park I'd visit everyday for the rest of my life if I had to, I still love it there. I absolutely get it.

And modest, Tyler. Don't forget modest.

Sorry, parks should be clean. They are public places, and if you don't keep them clean its a sign management just doesn't care. Your presentation to the public is how you make money, you need to make a good impression to get repeat customers. It is business 101.

I really enjoyed my visit to Knoebel's, during CoasterCon a few years back. There's a certain eccentric charm to the place. Is it someplace I would make it a point to visit again in the future? No. Is it a place I would visit if I were "in the neighborhood"? Sure.

The one thing I really didn't get? The food. I've heard a lot about the food there over the years, as had my pal Mark. So we went to the Alamo for a meal. We were.....whelmed. It was okay.

Just picked up from FB - inspectors, station gates, weight-checking device (your weight will not be displayed), station lighting....really looking like a "go!" for PPP this year....

Those of you not excited...may yawn now.
