DDR bug has hit hard

My senior year of high school was Super NES. I remember being "sick" and staying home from school on a Monday so I could play The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for 48 straight hours. Still one of the best games ever. I still have it.

-Dennis (who came as close to dying as he ever has in the mosh pit of an NIN concert that year... now *that* music is *still* hardcore...)

One of my friends is even worse... he has a cd-I from Phillips, a Panasonic 3DO, a Nintendo Virtual Boy (remember that headache-inducing system?), and his Sega Genesis add-ons... the legendary Sega CD and 32X.

I checked the Electronics Boutique web page and DDR Max is supposed to retail for $39.99. I agree with Jeff about being on a budget, though. This "hobby" can get VERY expensive.

Bah, Amateurs. ;)

My gaming toys (clears throat):

On small TV in my "den":
Atari 5200
Atari 7800 (plays my 2600 carts)
Intellivision
ColecoVision
Odyssey 2
Commodore 64 (yes, I consider this a gaming console ;) )
TurboDuo
Genesis + SegaCD + 32X + Power Base Converter (allows Genesis to play old Master System games)
NES
SNES

Also in the den is the standalone Vectrex (my pride & joy, actually -- yes, it works!), and my main PC.

On larger TV in living room:
Atari Jaguar + JagCD
N64
Saturn
Playstation 2
Dreamcast (although sadly I don't have the maracas ;) )
Gamecube
XBox
and a less-powerful, "media" PC that functions as my Tivo-alike.

And, of course, the portables:
Gameboy Advance
Lynx (2 + link cable)
Gamegear

Oh, and an old Pong I picked up at a flea market for $0.50. Hmmm, I think that's all of them...

(And I know people much worse than me!)

I still need to break down and replace my trusty Sony 27" TV with a big screen (like my brother's 40" Sony XBR -- that beast is gorgeous), but I'm waiting for HDTV to really become established first -- prices will come down then, and the current TV still suffices for now.

Drool....

But Gregleg, how many games do you have for each one??

-----------------
A day is a drop of water in the ocean of eternity. A week is seven drops.

At one point I had a database, but I'm not sure exactly how many any more. Quite a few for the Atari 7800 (maybe 30-40 7800 games and 60 or so 2600 games). Very few for the Odyssey 2, and somewhere in between for the Coleco and Mattel systems.

I have every released Vectrex game, but that's easy as a while back someone (legally) made a multicart for it. For the others, I'm actually somewhat picky. Of the most recent systems, 6 XBox games, 6 PS2 games, 4 Cube cames.

About 30 games for the GBA, but that's mixing Gameboy and GBA. (The GBA actually gets the most use of any of these, since it goes with me on the road, with my homemeade 2xNiMH D-cell battery pack that gives well over 20 hours of play on a charge. I'm actually not sure how much play I get out of a charge, but I can't remember last time I recharged it :) )

Unlike some collectors who actively seek out the older stuff, I'm just a packrat. I pick up the new systems buy stuff for them, but keep the old ones around (and yes, I DO still play all of them occasionally, although it's been quite a while for some of them. Just not enough time in the day...)

Sheesh. For my three systems I have a total of 9 games.

And 6 of them have the word "Mario" in the title....

I wasn't aware that CP's machine was the worst of the version. What exactly makes it bad?

And the only system really "hot" at the time of my senior year was GameBoy, and to a lesser extent, the remodeled NES. My next system would be an SNES my junior year of college.

As far as I know, Jeff, the CP version is one of only two of the versions made specifically for the United States. Also, I think this particular version was made for areas where it would be played by people without much DDR experience, because:

-It only has like 10 songs (DDRMAX2 has hundreds, and even DDRMAX, which people complained had too few songs, has like 50).

-You have to enter a special code to get to the trick and maniac levels, rather than simply selecting your skill level from a menu.

Not to mention, the songs that are on there are hardly the most popluar songs among the DDR crowd.

What!!??!!

With all these systems, nobody has any sports games!!!

I have Mario Kart 64 and Mario Golf, do those count??

Auto racing and golf?..that's a strecth.

Den, if you think downloading NES MP3s is bad...I can play the music from Legend of Zelda on piano, as well as most of the original Super Mario music.

My systems:

Genesis + Sega CD, Saturn, Dreamcast, NES, SNES, N64, GBC, GBA, PSX, PS2, Odyssey 3, Atari 400/800, iMac 500mhz G3, iMac 800mhz G4 w/Superdrive, IBM NetVista 1.8ghz Pentium 4.

Phrease, I challenge you to Madden 2003 anytime. Me=Raiders, you=anyone.

Mark - ha.... I know a little bit of music from Castlevania for piano.

Phrease - the best three sports games, bar none, are the NES Trifecta: Blades of Steel, Double Dribble and Tecmo Bowl. With honorable mention to NES Open and Mario Golf. The new sports games are too detailed. I just wanna play, not plan out my whole season.

Tried & true, many systems have been tried, but the NES remains. For one, my skill level, well, it really doesn't go beyond a NES, all those other games are too much for me, I suck. We've got more NES games than we know what to do with, we're talking multiple copies of multiple games & a Game Genie with the code book built out of at least three partial books, plus many home written codes. Love living near two vintage game dealers;). Still looking for Metal Gear, though(cough!)........

As for the music, I like most of it, just not that Legend of Zelda music, CHOKE! Sounds like Motown hummed all wrong. I've actually reworked song after songs in my head, thinking what they'd sound like if a band came out with covers. An all metal NES cover freak show would be just great;).

Since we're flirting with departure from DDR, I think I must mention Mario Twins. If you haven't seen it, you need to...

OK, so the CP version is lame, eh? The mall near me has a 4th mix machine. What's the deal with that?

Sheesh, I feel so damned old and foolish now. Our first game system was the Intellivision (a wedding present from the groomsmen). Since then we've gotten all the systems needed for the Zelda and FF games (primarily nintendo and playstation). The latest system we have now is the PS2.

My son has two mixes for DDR, and I can't even begin to tell you the difference. I only know that Have you Never Been Mellow and Boom Boom are my two favorites. The other music I could take or leave. Both Boom Boom and HYNBM are on the machine at CP.

*I* would like to see some mixes for us old people. Classic rock, baby!

Fourth-mix is good. I believe the home version Konamix was based on that mix.

Come on down to Columbus and you can have your pick of at least 7 different versions, including two of the newest and a really weird Korean bootleg.

Sports games? Why that's pretty much the bulk of my PS2 material. I just wasted $50 on EA Sports' NHL 2003 (which is a HUGE step down from last year's). I also have NCAA Football 2003, Madden 2003, NASCAR Thunder 2003, and Tiger Woods Golf 2002 (the new one comes out in November with 13 courses... drool!).

As far as "rhythm" games go, I have the aforementioned Samba De Amigo for Sega Dreamcast, the DC version of DDR (I do NOT have a dance pad for it, though), PaRappa The Rapper, UmJammer Lammy, DDR and DDR Konamix for PSOne, and Frequency for PS2. Frequency absolutely rocks and while there is no "special controller" for it, it is very challenging and features cool music from Paul Oakenfold, Crystal Method, Fear Factory, Powerman 5000 and other artists I have never heard of. I had Mad Maestro for PS2, but the game was not much fun.

I also have had the displeasure of playing "Britney's Dance Beat" for the PS2 (which is Dance Pad compatible)... but I'll leave it at that!

--memories of Parappa the Rapper come flowing back--

This game occupied my life for a week in college.
