DDR bug has hit hard

Putz - I want my 3 minutes back after watching that Flash. You owe me.

-Natalie

Hate to bring this back on topic ;) but can anybody suggest a place where I can buy DDR stuff offline? I only hear about websites where I can purchase games, pads, etc. Not having a credit card (and having to wait for online merchandise) doesn't always make me happy :(

Den: My friend and I would play Mario Kart (SNES and 64 versions) for HOURS on end. I LOVED that game!

emulators are very nice...i've got 12 systems all contained on my C Drive ;)

They're also very illegal. But don't worry I won't tell.(assuming you don't own all 12 systems and all the roms for the cartridge systems.)

Try any electronics store or toy store you can find. I've seen Disney Mix at Toys R Us and Kaybee, I bought Konamix at Circuit City, our mats came from FuncoLand, and Electronics Boutique also carries DDR stuff. I'm still waiting for Best Buy to jump on the bandwagon though, they had neither the games nor the mats. If you want to get your mats at a reasonable price I would recommend checking eBay and then sending a check or money order if you don't have a credit card. Store-bought mats tend to be hard to find and often times they're a rip-off as well.

Yes, Greg, that is quite a handsome collection you have. I have virtually all the systems you have as well. I actually even have 2 NES, and 3 SNES systems... (don't ask!). In fact, I was playing the Japanese version yesterday of an old Dragon Warrior game (on my famicom-date that jealous bastards!!!) BUT.....do you have the ultimate home system, though? The ungodly NEO-GEO? I have 2..........:) I have every cart for them as well. Granted, that's everything that was released prior to 2001. After that, I kind of gave up....'nuff said!

Famicom IS the NES...

It was the Japanese version that if we wanted over here we had to import ourselves. The US version couldn't play the Japanese games, and vice-versa. (for any who don't know what a famicom is)

BTW: 1 PSX, 1 gamecube, 1 n64, 2 original grey gameboys, 2 limited edition gold game boy pockets, 2 game boy advances, and last but not least, 2 of each the original NES and the "remodeled".

Nope, 'fraid I don't have the Neo-Geo (or 3D0, or CD-i ;) ) I have multiples ("backups") of a few of the out-of-production systems.

Oh, I also forgot to mention that one of my DVD players is a Nuon-enabled system. It's not a progressive-scan player, sadly, but my current TV couldn't take advantage of that anyway. When I was shopping for a second DVD player I specifically went for the Nuon for Tempest 3000 :)

Jeff, that Mario Twins flash was freaking hilarious! I started laughing half way through and I couldn't stop. I guess it might not be as funny to someone that hasn't played it as much as I have, but those guys are funny as hell!

Since we're flirting with departure from DDR, I think I must mention Mario Twins. If you haven't seen it, you need to...

JFNJ, I know the Famicom is the NES. The Japanese version of the NES, but it came out way prior to the NES here in the states, and the point of my bragging was I had it right from the beginning. :):):) I had the 3DO, but never anything else like it. It's funny how the CD-i was really just a precursor to the DVD players of today.

www.tripowered.com - I bet your curiosity is killing you....

I forgot the 3DO! I had one of those bad boys, and played Night Trap on it daily.

On a related note, my Japanese friend had a Super Famicon back in about 1985. I was playing Super Mario 3 before Super Mario 2 was available here, if my memory serves me correctly. That system was great-your controller even had a microphone in it.

After reading up in various forums, I've concluded that no platforms or stages for the home game are outstanding, and none offer the true arcade feel. Heck, the metal ones don't even appear to be sold by a reputable retailer anywhere in the US.

Sounds like the RedOctane Ignition pads are best for home use, but still a little expensive. I mean, if my cheap-ass MadCatz pads die, big deal, I throw them away and buy new ones.

Before I bought my pad, I read the forum on ddrfreak.com for a couple of weeks. There was something wrong with every pad, metal or not, but the problems with the plastic pads tended to be annoying things like bunching up or slipping, whereas the metal pad problems tended to be fixable, like wires getting crossed.

Anyhoo, my BNS metal pad still works 100% perfectly after more than 3 months, and though it feels a little softer than the arcade, it's probably as close as you can get at home. I got a good deal from eBay.

Have you gotten a chance to play a newer arcade version yet? MAX2 is awesome.

I'd definately agree Den, before I bought my pads, I spent about 2 weeks reading DDRFreak and other sites trying to find a pad that was actually good. But it seemed like nobody liked anything, so I ended up just going with some Ignitions from Ebay and they're awesome.

As for Metal Pads, I've heard a lot of good things about the mymybox metal pads. I'm probably going to buy a pair when I can scape together the money.

Making your own does sound like fun, and a good way to go from the standpoint that if it doesn't work, it's your own problem. I would love to see an arcade stage disassembled to see how it's setup.

The "bunching up" problem can be semi solved with the non-slip rug mesh under them (works good on tile or carpeting).

When I mentioned a sturdier pad system to my son, he shrugged and felt if the plastic ones die, they can be cheaply replaced. He can't see spending $100 per pad for something sturdier.

I'm wondering if there might be a way to encase the plastic pads. Something that can be used to hold them in place, providing less slippage and bunching, but can also be opened to allow a new cheap plastic pad to be inserted if need be.
