DDR bug has hit hard

Well, to me freestyling is basically adding to the game, and like Den said, it only works well if you don't play the same songs over...and over...and over again...When i freestyle i'm not just slapping the pads with my hands or knees because well...that's played out, it's old.

But i do think freeestyling is cool tho, real cool. Because 1) You're displaying creativity as well as what skillz you have. 2) Thought this isn't the primary reason why I freesyle, but it does attract on lookers. 3) I fine that people seem to enjoy themselves freestling more than they do PA.

Now, that being said, i'm not putting down PA at all, in fact i play PA all the time. I just like to have a nice balance when i DDR. I get more out of it that way.

The reason I refuse to play is the same reason I refuse to drink coffee, because I know if I try it I wont be able to stop. (Yes I have never tried coffee)
Steel Force - try coffee once, you'll hate it. You have to try it about 20 times before you really start to enjoy it. ;)

Well, after months of collecting dust, I popped in Konamix the other day. It's amazing how crappy it looks compared to DDRMAX. However, it was really fun to go back and try some of those maniac songs that I couldn't even touch the last time I played it.

Today, I passed several maniac songs on the first try that I had not even *tried* before... Dynamite Rave, Paranoia Rebirth, A3, etc. The two that I still cannot pass after *many* tries, though, are Orion Civ Mix and Drop Out. I got to near the end of both; Sana Morette certainly helped with Orion. But there is *no way* Drop Out is an 8-footer. The end kills me every time.

I have moved right up to Heavy now. Thanks to 1.5x it is a lot easier to do most songs. I can get an A on Abyss on Heavy on 1.5x and get a C on regular speed, I guess just becuase the arrows are more spaced and better to read. My local Boomers has all the unlock codes in their Extreme now. I really like the new Burnin' the Floor.

Hey anyone know where I can find an arcade machine in the Pittsburgh area?

Found a DDR Max2 7th Mix machine at AMC Theatres - Mayfair in the Milwaukee area. Got my a$$ handed to me on all but the easiest songs. These freeze? steps really confuzuled me :) Have no idea if I was to stay on that step the entire time or keep pressing it over and over again or what. That is probably a big factor in why I did so poorly because in DDR USA and Disney Mix which I have for the PSX they dont have that in them. It was fun nonetheless and even with my really bad skills I was still impressing the audience out there :)

Yeah, DDR Freak helps out alot.

I was over at Knots Berry Farm yesterday (Sat.) and i busted on the 3rd mix there, and after playing 7th and 8th mix since it's release i found out the 3rd mix surprisingly kills you quicker than 8th mix. (which kills you pretty fast) but i still did my old favorites *misses wonderland dearly*

Kick the Sky - in case you haven't figured it out by now ;) you do indeed have to hold the button for the freeze steps. This is easier to do at home, because home pads are touch-sensitive (I/O) whereas the arcade pads are pressure-sensitive. I find that many times I get "N.G." on the freezes in the arcade, even when I am obviously standing on the pads and haven't moved. My guess is that you have to weigh more than the 140 lbs. that I weigh...

Den, do you have to release at a precise moment on those freezes or can you lift your foot off ANY time after the freeze?

You can stay on the freezes as long afterwards as you want. As long as you keep your foot on the arrow the entire length of the freeze, you'll get an "O.K."

One thing to note is that you won't lose your full combo if you miss a freeze. And - I don't know your skill level, but there are several songs where the freezes force you to do half-spins or full 360-degree spins, or force you to look ahead and do the arrow patterns with certain feet, unnaturally. The songs to watch out for are:

Ordinary World heavy; Centre of the Heart standard; Burning Heat standard; Candy (heart) heavy; and watch that freeze ending on Tsugaru standard as well...

I'm pretty sure Ordinary World has the hardest freezes. It makes you do four 360-degree spins. All of them are immediately followed by eighth notes, so it's hard to catch up when you turn to the screen again. And two of them force you to tap triplets with the other foot as you're spinning. Aaa! Should be an 8-footer, not 7...

I'm not bad with freezes but i'm small guy (130 or so lbs) so sometimes i on't seem to stay on long enugh. They aren't bad tho.

Side note: I was a few misses from FC Era (haevy) and a few 'greats' from AAing Holic (heavy). gaaaaaaaah, sooo close.

I've AAed Holic but not Era. I always get at least one BOO in that ending run with the three repeated up arrows every measure.

Obscure side note: Has anyone else noticed that Holic has the same time signature as Nine Inch Nails' song, "March of the Pigs"? Except the NIN song inserts a 4/4 measure every three measures. I think I'm right on that.

Off topic, but nonetheless, I haven't been on the internet in a month or so, and last time I looked this thread was on page 16!!! is that a record or what?

:)

Not adding to the discussion anymore, but I passed Healing Vision: Angelic Mix Standard again FINALLY :)

Yeah... accuse me of heavy stomping on the final two heartbeats :-/

M-Rider: You have to stomp on the last two beats! It's so satistfying.... it's the only break in the song... hey - I'm playing Extreme this afternoon... last time I tried to find Daikenkai but couldn't. I looked through all the D's in the alphabetical listing. Am I doing something wrong?

Isn't Daikenkai that Japanese rock song? If so, then it should be there, but the title is in Japanese. It doesn't say 'Daikenkai'

Yeah, but there are quite a few songs with Japanese titles, and I don't think any of them are in the 'D' section.... I tried a random one last week and I don't think that was it. It rocked though.

I'm pretty sure i remember seeing one in the 'D' section, it's a 'yellow' song also, if that helps.

I haven't played on an Extreme machine in a few, but as far as I remember yes, it was under 'D'. The artist(s) are: Des-ROW feat. TSUBOI for ALPHA.
