DDR bug has hit hard

We just got the first Playstation DDR, you know to be quasi complete (can't find the Disney version new, though). We played through all 27 songs tonight.

They pretty much all suck, except for the ones brought forward to newer versions. Not only does the music suck, but the people who came up with the steps couldn't seem to think of anything more than jumps.

Another thing is that we were getting boo'ed to death on easy songs. Not sure if it has anything to do with it, but turning off the other buttons (in the options) made all the difference, since apparently the diagonal buttons double as the normal four. Now I wonder if that's what has been pissing me off on Konamix every time I try to go back to it.

Seems like forever before we get Max2 for home!

What are you talking about turning buttons off? I play the PSX DDR USA and I have a hell of a time with the game because the buttons dont register well but I turn around and play disney and have no problems. Anyhoo, next time you are in Orlando, I got my Disney at Virgin Superstore at Downtown Disney.

The only reason I'd want the original DDR would be to practice Afronova. None of the other songs really appeal to me.

btw, I got killed last night on Extreme. Surrounded by people, I failed HV:AM, CSFILSM, and Insertion; yet when they left I passed CSFILSM easily, and Tsugaru, and Gentle Stress, and two Heavy nonstop courses. I suck under pressure...

Bob: There's a setting in the options that turns off the other buttons on the pad (X, O, square and triangle) so only the up, down, left and right register anything. Otherwise, those four buttons also register as up, down, left and right. Apparently the game thinks you're cheating or something when you do that.

I discovered this before a song started, when you can make the arrows "flash" by pushing buttons. I discovered by accident then that the other buttons were registering arrow hits.

Sorry about the loss, Den...yeah some people can't play to save their life when people are watching. It's weird, really...i dunno why that happens. As for me, i love when people watch, especially during freestyles. I thrive off of an audience...O_o

Yeah, i'm weird.

I feel like I have to play differently when there are a lot of people there. For instance, when I'm by myself, I'll play songs I've never tried or songs I'm not good at, but when there are people watching, I can only play songs I know I can pass - and I try not to play songs that are too easy... or, say, three songs in a row from Konamix or PS2 DDRMAX, because then everyone'll know I've been practicing at home.

This is all subconscious stuff, mind you, that I realize later... talk about weird...

The ideal situation for me is to play with three people you know. That way you get to rest between plays, and it's much more fun to play with someone up there (especially if you're both good - then the sound of the beat really comes out).

Interesting...the ideal situation for me is probably in any situation as long as it's not in a tournament, because i don't think i'm ready for one of those yet. I hear the competition is cutthroat...O_o
Scary...

I'm only concerned about not looking like a total fool...so when I do get out in "public" I'm going to try to stick with the songs I know I can pass...even if they aren't any higher than the 5-6 footers.

And yes, Den, I'm keeping my mouth closed!

Ever notice how many people do Bob Dole fists/Bill Clinton thumbs? I find myself doing a combination of both.

I'm going to videotape myself playing sometime so I can see how stupid I really look. Most of the kids who play at my arcade do it just like I do... arms to the side, no attempts to freestyle or look good. So I don't feel so bad.

For those of you interested, Magic Mountain Fun Center in Columbus, OH is having a tournament on Friday the 21st (one week from today). I believe that they have the DDR Extreme software there. Here's a link to the flyer that they have posted. Good luck!

That link gives me a blank page. I had thought about entering this tournament, but then again I think the DDR "scene" in Columbus is centered there on the east side, whereas I play on the north side, where things are a little more relaxed I think. So maybe not. :) But yes, they do indeed have Extreme there.

Yeah, us North-Siders are so relaxed :) The link works for me...I guess I should have warned that it's a PDF file, so you need Acrobat.

North-siders *are* relaxed! That explains why they drive 15mph below the speed limit! ;) I have Acrobat, and the link activated it, but it still didn't load. ??

Too bad i won't be there...*lives in Cali* hehe ^^;

Anywayz, i just looked up www.aaroninjapan.com and checked out his DDR page. oh my goodness...there pics and videos of people actually AAAing MAX300 heavy, and MaxX Unlimited heavy among other crazy feats...

Kel - www.travelocity.com... get a flight. ;) I've seen Aaron's page... there's one guy on there who AA'ed the Paranoia Bros. Oni course (that's 4 or 5 Paranoia songs in a row). How people AAA any song is a mystery to me. I can't even AAA Remember You light (and believe me I've tried). The closest I've gotten on a heavy song is 12 greats on Cutie Chaser Morning Mix. I got 20 greats on Midnite Blaze in the arcade the other day...

lol yeah i'll just check under the couch for a couple grand. Should be around here somewhere. ^_~ The closest i've gotten to an AAA was 53 greats on Holic ^^; In other words, i haven't even AA'ed anything yet...lol i suck badly =D

AAA means all perfects, right? I got within one on Remember You. I just don't have the patience for that song to get closer.

I've AA'd about half of the songs on PS2 Max in light mode, and a few in standard. I still need to get some better grades on the last few light songs. An A on Max300 would be nice, but I can't seem to break a B.

I'm proud to say that I have AAA two songs, Remember you and Cutie Chaser Light, but I worked at them until I managed it.

I can AA the slower light songs, and a couple standards, but, again, I have to really concentrate and work at it...and requires locking the cats up so they don't walk across the pad while I'm playing.

I like trying to AA songs when I'm just trying to get some exercise, and not up to the frustrating (and *tiring*) task of trying to better myself on the faster 5-6 footer songs.

I FINALLY got an A on My Summer Love standard last night, and managed a B on Deep Dark Forest standard although I still screw up near the end of that one. I feel like I need 4 feet.

On MAX, I have AAs on about two dozen heavy songs.... some of the ones I'm more proud of including AM-3P, Ecstasy, Sana Morette, Spin the Disc and Stomp to my Beat.

Jeff and CPLady, have you considered a metal pad lately? Just wondering, because the other day I tried Matsuri Japan Heavy on my wife's soft pad. This is a song that I can easily pass with an A every time. But on the soft pad, I couldn't pass it due to it slipping around and not knowing where my feet are... and it's one of the high-quality cyphergames pads. I have no doubt that the metal pad increases my skill level heavily.

EDIT: I'm adding this for my wife - she is very proud to have just gotten an AA on Sana Morette standard, after only about a month of playing.
