Awww Den, you almost got the 1000th post cookie, but that goes to Kel instead. :)

Unfortunately, Kel's browser doesn't accept that kind of cookie, so the prize is forfeited. :(

Anywayz, i just got back from DDRing (and just for the record, since i saw some posts on this topic earlier in this thread, i'm black) and i'm rather proud of myself. I beat Trip Machine Survivor with a C and Drop Out remix (i forget what it's called) with a B.

Trip Machine: ok...the steps are chaotic, lots of stopping and going off the 8th note, and a few skips are thrown into the mix as well as the song freezing at one point. What makes the song hard is the inability to really grasp the beat of the song, 'cuz TM:S is kinda weird sounding. Near the end lots of 16th notes are up in there, so stay on your toes (literally).

Drop Out remix: Ok in truth, because this D.O. is 130 bpm as opposed to 260, it's a miserable excuse for a 9 fter if you put in on 2x (which i did :-D) The song is just plain easy, just giving you only 4th notes, 8th notes, and a few jumps. Only near the end of D.O. does it get "interesting." The song throws a stream of 4th, 8th, and 16th notes, about 90 of them. It's not to bad though, just turn accordingly and you'll be fine.

Ow damn ooh GRR! My legs, can't move ow ow ow OW! Just finished attempting to do nine feet. I have Konamix and Dynamite Rave Maniac is my current goal. I can pretty much pass any not too fast eight footer without any problems. My big problem though with Da Rave is about half way through i just can't keep moveing my feet that fast anymore. What can i do to increase my stamina?
Play soccer and run track, preferably...cross country. That will get your stamina up...:D

Anyone tried Electro Tuned Heavy on DDR MAX? That is a song where the steps in no way match the music. It's still pretty fun though.

I have no idea where my stamina comes from, since DDR is my only form of exercise. But I do it almost every day and usually at least an hour at a time, for about 6 months or more now. I know the first time I had a 4-hour session in the arcade, the next day my entire lower body throbbed and I had to physically lift my legs with my arms in order to climb up stairs.

I believe Electro Tuned is one of those songs I just bypass. Nuh-uh...not me.

Hey Den, I'm going to have to show my husband your comment about not worrying how you look when you play. His comment:

"hey, you know those kids in the special education classes with the opened mouths and vacant stares?? That's what you look like when you play that dance thing"

Great. Thanks, hon.

CPLady - This won't make you feel any better, but I *do* always make an attempt to keep my mouth closed while I'm playing. :)

well i finally did it yesterday... we had a snow day so i went over to a friend's house... i tried to avoid it... i really did... but i hopped on for one dance and now i'm hooked! i cant wait to get back on a machine this weekend! aargh this is what i was afraid of!

one thing i still refuse to do is buy one for myself. because if i did, i would instantly cease to have a social life.

"It's like something out of that twilighty show about that zone"

JD - I bet you'll have one by the end of the month!

M-Rider - I played some Extreme last night, but I could not find Daikenkai anywhere. I thought maybe it was written in Japanese, so I tried one of those, and I found a new favorite song. Obviously I don't know the name, but it was like 240 BPM and sounded like a game-show theme. Great song.

Also from last night: I tried HV:AM first time at the arcade. Failed, but got about 5 seconds from the end. I thought my heart was going to explode. Another new song I tried is Jam Jam Reggae, which sucks.

I also discovered the joy of nonstop play. It's kinda like Oni mode, only you pick a set of four songs and play them all in a row, with the regular energy bar, not the battery. The sets are cool, you can choose four songs from the Player's Best list, or Worst, or four random songs. Random = very scary, because you can't change the skill level between songs, so you may end up with Maxx Unlimited Heavy or something on your first song and waste your money. OR, you could do what I did and end up with Remember You on my last turn, and look like a wussie. ;) But I'm going to be playing this mode a lot more.

I gotta agree with ya there, Den. Nonstop mode is fun. Real fun. I should play it more often, but the reason why i don't is because i want to get my initials up there and i know that once i get them up, they'll get knocked off eventually ^^;

Meh...i should care less about placing and just have fun bustin nonstop.

Oh...question: Any of you guys freestyle? Or do you guys just play PA? As for me, i do both.

Kel - I never freestyle. Personally, I think it looks kinda silly. Not that PA doesn't look silly, but I'd rather increase my skill level than attempt to look good, because I know I'm *never* gonna look good. ;)

Not to mention, the freestylers I see tend to play the same songs over and over.

Freestyling is stupid, sorry, that's my opinion. The game is designed to make you move your feet, so when you start adding stuff to that, it doesn't make you look cool, it just makes you look like you're trying to add to something designed to make you move your feet!

This is incredibly insane (the length of this forum).... it seems like there'd be a glitch by now.... over 1000 replies???? LoL
Freestyling is cool IF and ONLY IF the person doing it is original and entertaining. I'll never try to freestyle, as I know I'll look even more foolish doing it. Most freestyling I see is pretty lame, but a select few (<10%) in my opinion make it look pretty cool...but nothing I would ever think of trying.

Thankfully almost no one at the arcade where I play most freestyles. Almost everyone is either a "9-foot freak" or a beginner (I don't know where the Trick/Standard players go ;)). I've seen a few freestylers at GameWorks and they all play easy, overplayed light songs like Dynamite Rave and Let's Groove. Lame.

Now I've seen everything. My wife came to pick me up at the bowling alley, and as we were leaving, I noticed a guy juggling while playing the DDR game there. I don't know much about these games. I've only tried them once and did horribly, but this guy was getting all perfects on what seemed to be a pretty difficult level. All the while he was juggling 3 of those juggling pins without dropping them once. Wow, I couldn't believe it.
Freestyling is a quite acceptable way to play the game. Not everyone is the best at doing it, but limiting the game to 'just moving your feet' is a disservice to the game, since it's one of the few beat games that allows you to make things up on the fly. That's why freestyling, on say Beatmania or Guitar Freaks, would look stupid. DDR (and Pump It Up moreso) are much more open ended on what you can do with them, due to their design. (God, I'm sounding like the Rideman of DDR..... eek. 'You see, the nature of arrow placement is conversely restrictive to the nature of moment, thus someone strangle me already for giving out TMI.' lol...)

Anyway, freestyling is perfectly legitimate, if it's done properly. It can be rediculous, certainly, but in the hands of someone who has ability, it can be quite interesting to watch.
