DDR bug has hit hard

Drop Out Heavy is impossible to me. I've tried many times but, in the sections with eight or more jumps in a row at 260 BPM, I just cannot jump that quickly.

I haven't tried any of the others on your list (aside from Japan and Tsugaru which we already discussed), but I've been meaning to give Afronova and CSFiLSM a try. Afronova Standard is a great, fun song and one of the first songs I ever FCed. The original CSFiL Heavy is great too... in fact I think I talked about it on like page 6 of this thread. ;)

Be sure to take a nice, long break before you try Can't Stop: Speed Mix... Endurance counts with that song. I've tried it on Heavy before, and got just slightly part where Naoki (or whoever it is) begins to sing.

I did beat Insertion Heavy last night, but I "cheated." Near the end there's a huge section of mixed eighth- and sixteenth-notes. I could not read the rhythm, so I treated them like straight eighth-notes. I got "good"s on most of them and ended up with a C, but hey, I passed it.

I'll let ya know when I try CSFiLSM... looking at the step chart, there's nothing too confusing in it... but as the name implies... it's fast...

I just bought a mad catz beat pad last week and the stupid down arrow keeps sticking on me and the down arrow just keeps getting pushed down over and over and ruining my games. Has anyone had this happened to them and if you have how did you fix it? I would love any help or suggestions as it is very frustrating to keep missing steps just beacuse the pad is screwing up and not me.

Ummm...invest in a better pad. It's well worth it.

Yes. Madcatz == junk. Search this thread for the link to the Cyphergames pads, which I've had for four months under heavy use, and they're still going strong.

The link is the last post on the first page. Why don't they sell any good pads in stores?!?

I've often wondered that as well.

By the way, you'll notice that Cyphergames is now selling a "v2.0" pad with the one-inch insert, and it looks suspiciously like the famous Red Octane pad for almost a third the cost.

I think I am going to go for the deluxe ignition pad if I can't get the one I have now to work properly all the time. I just want to try and get a little more use out of it before I dump it.

I haven't extolled the virtues of my metal pad for a while, so here goes: If you have an extra $100 lying around, and you anticipate becoming a serious player, I'd invest in one.

I have the cyphergames soft pad too, and as great as it is, I still have to adjust it after each song because of the sliding. And despite the plastic under the arrows, I still get "lost" on the pads sometimes.

On the metal pad, I always know where my feet are, and it's much more sensetive than the soft pad. The metal is now bent, the arrows are cracked (and taped up), and I've had to take it apart a couple of times to fix some tape-sticking issues, but it's well worth it. It doesn't budge a single millimeter while you're playing.

Speaking of pads, it seems Konami doesn't want to be left out of the pad competition...For a paltry $68, they will be releasing A DDR MAX2 pad on March 27 in Japan...No word if it will come to the u.s., but since pads are universal, importing is always an option. April 24 is the release date for Max 2. Anyone else planning on importing this game?

holy cow - rescued from page 3 land!

I would like to import DDRMAX2, but it's just too much trouble, what with having to get either a Japanese PS2 or a converter. I'll just wait for the US release (and pray they put Tsugaru on it).

MRider - If you're still reading this thread - I finally got to try out Can't Stop Falling in Love Speed Mix last night. I actually beat it on my first try with a C. It's really fun. I'm getting to the point where I can beat certain catas like HVAM, Insertion and Tsugaru every time now. That makes me happy. :)

If i were to get DDR pads i'd definitely get some hard pads...i despise soft ones. But i'm gonna buy a machine anyhow.

And Congrats, Den! I tried HVAM recently...meh...i failed miserably ^^;;;

I tried Stoic also, but that's a hard one. My next goal is to beat A on Oni mode (8 ft. on heavy, 9ft of Oni)

I want a machine myself. Just not sure if I can justify spending $5k on one. That is a bit on the steep side! Then again, I'd love to tear it down and recondition one too.

Well, Jeff...you don't hafto spend 5k on a brand new machine. You can spend yanno, maybe 1k on a used USA or something, and repair the pads, then upgrade to a higher mix. It's cheaper.

No, $5k is a used one. New units I've seen priced at $10k, if you can even find someone who will get one into the US. Apparently, the upgrade kits that do 3rd mix or higher are the easiest to come by, but even then the difference between doing that and outright buying a 7th or 8th is only a couple hundred bucks, so if you can get hardware that's physically newer, I'd just assume do that. Buy a couple hundred in replacement parts, and you're back where you started.

Jeff, if you ever do get one and need some help in rebuilding it, I know someone who's good at fixing arcade games ;) (not good at stepping on THAT machine though :))

Whoa !5k for used ones?! O_o Wait...i thought i saw lower prices for machines on channelbeat.com. Maybe i was mistaken. At any rate, whether 5k or 10k, i'll still grab one.

Edit: I just came back from DDRing and i tried another cata: Tsugaru: Apple Mix and got a 'B' :)

Hey Den, I'm here. Just going through some rough times.

Congrats on passing Can't Stop... :) I haven't had the chance to play recently, I have a feeling my ability has dropped a bit. Luckily tonight I'm gonna drop by the local DDR venue and play some Extreme.

Oh, have you tried "Daikenkai" on trick/standard yet on Extreme? Lots of fun jumps in there when you approach the end, ala Maxx Unlimited. :)
