DDR bug has hit hard

So here's my story for today: I had just started a game of DDRMAX and my wife comes down wanting to play. So I picked Healing Vision Angelic Mix Heavy 'cause I knew I'd fail it and then we could start a two-player game. But I didn't - passed it - with an A. It was cool. ;) Colonel - nice job! ;)

Jeff - I have been playing some more doubles at home. It's fun for a diversion but I don't think I'll ever like it better than singles. I did try "Cutie Chaser" and you're right, it's way easier on doubles.

Funny you mentioned that "accidental" play. At my cousin's college grad party yesterday, the relatives were bugging us to play something fast. So we picked Paranoia Evolution, but forgot we were standard mode. To my (and my cousin's) shock, I ended up passing it with a C.

Proud moment. :)

w00t! I got over my MAX300 slump by passing it again (on heavy) a couple days ago! Yus! Now i know what i did wrong: I alwayz played it as my last song...after doing 3 other 9fters. =P So now i know to do it first...then i can pass it with a C

working on Stoic, and bag also. I'll tackle Paranoia Survivor later.

I have no idea how people can pass Max 300 heavy. I barely passed it in training mode with the speed turned down two notches.

I saw a guy pass Bag Heavy 1x the other day. In-freaking-sane. Stoic is not that bad.

I have seen quite a few people pass Max 300 Heavy, as well as Maxx Unlimited Heavy, Paranoia Survivor, etc. etc. I don't think Konami could make a song that *someone* couldn't pass.

Personally, I'm not sure I have it in me at all to ever pass a 10-foot song. Then again, two months ago I would have said the same about HV:AM or Exotic Ethnic. And six months ago I remember attempting Witch Doctor standard (a 4-footer) and being baffled by the jumps. So anything's possible I guess.

But for now, an A on Max 300 standard and barely passing Maxx Unlimited standard once will have to do. :)

I got to play extreme yesterday. The song list is really, really good. I liked 1998 and V. On my final stage I tried Bag on light and failed(I didn't speed it up). I also played Boomers Max2 and just passed Maxx Unlimited on light, and I can't seem to pass Max 300. All the 8th notes just kill me.

Maxx Unlimited Light is one of the most fun songs to play ever. On standard it's just not fun, and on heavy it's impossible. But light has all those cool freezes and jumps at the end.

EDIT: Oh btw - this proves how much coasters and DDR are linked. I'm playing at the Palace the other day with this guy who just happened to be there. He asks if I ever go to DDRfreak.com, I say yes. Then he asks if I am on coasterbuzz. Why he asked that, I dunno, but obviously I am. It was cdrpointcrzy04 from a few posts above. Very interesting... :)

Hey Den, if you like Maxx Unlimited light for the jumps, on Extreme play this song called "Daikenkai" (note: Japanese Kanji) on Standard. When you approach the end it has some very fun jumps from DL-UD-UR, all the way around. The song itself is pretty fun as well, Japanese hard-rock/hip-hop :)

Finally, for insanity, I saw two guys do Bag 1x heavy, flat notes. I couldn't even interpret the steps on screen!

Yeah, MAX300 IS doable it's just u have to have

1. Lots of stamina

2. Very fast feet

I'm working on HV:AM too...kudos to u, Den for being able to pass that song...it looks almost impossible.

Kel, I can't believe you can pass Max 300 Heavy but not HV:AM.

I guess it all depends on your strengths and weaknesses. I can't move my feet fast enough for Max 300 (I almost always break my combo on the three eighth-note runs in Max 300 standard). However, I think I'm fairly good at double-stepping, which HV:AM requires almost every measure. So maybe that explains it.

Sorry Jeff, my humblest apologies. I guess it's force of habit. I'm use to doing it alot at another board I attend. I'll adjust though.

Anyway, back on topic: Yeah I can't double step to save my life...I always like to alternate feet because I think it looks cooler, (in my opinion) and it seems that you don't exert as much energy. But in cases such as HV:AM where you have to basically double step to stay alive, I think I can make an exception.

I am not very good at the crossover steps. I can do the RDL and LDR easily enough, but LUR and RUL kill me. I have to double step them. That's why I was so surprised to pass Exotic Ethnic Heavy the other day, because it so relies on crossover steps.

I'm still working on Saints Go Marching Heavy in the arcade. It's got my two nemeses - fast crossovers and gallops that start on the quarter beat.

Aaah yes...gallops...hehe *loves Matsuri Japan and Tsugaru* I'm pretty ok with gallops. I notice however that i don't perform them like normal people do. I don't look like i'm skipping or 'galloping' when i do them, but I still hit them pretty nicely. I look like i'm just stepping normally.

Yeah, I have no problem with the gallops in Japan and Tsugaru, or True..., or My Generation, or Cow Girl, etc. etc. It's the quarter note gallops in Saints, Rhythm and Police, Speed Over Beethoven, etc., that kill me.

The way I do them is just to jump but land on the arrows at different times. I think that's how most people do it.

Tsugaru is probably my favorite DDR song, period, btw.

Aiight, so last night, I told myself that I was going to pass Rhythm and Police Heavy. It took me 7 tries in a row, but I did it with a C. My heart has never pounded that hard before. But, after I passed it, I figured since my adenaline was pumping, I'd try another cata, so I went with Exotic Ethnic and upped my grade to a B. Then I tried Insertion but alas, my luck ran out. However I did get farther than I've ever gotten before... way past the stop. w00t!!11 After I pass that, my next goal is Orion 78 Heavy.

Good luck, Orion 78 (normal mix) is pretty fun. I tried r&p for the first time the other day and i got to the gallops, not really prepared for it and failed the song. Some other catas i can accomplish:

Afronova
Rebirth
Dead End
Drop Out
Tsugaru
Matsuri Japan
Can't stop falling in Love (speed mix)
Kakumei
I passes Para Eternal before but that was luck I think
