I live real close to Canton Ohio. I drive by the Football Hall of Fame every day on my way to and from work. I just started so I think I will be playnig at home for a long time before I go and make a fool out of myself in front of other people :) I hope I can pick up the beat quickly. I used to tap dance (when I was like 5) and I also used to take a Jazz/Pop dance class (when I was like 10 or 11) so that should help (I hope!) I'm just nervous because I HATE to dance in front of people. I make my boyfriend so mad because I like to go to clubs but I flat out refuse to dance.
Makes no sense that I want to buy DDR when I hate to dance. Thats just me though ;)

I play primarily to get a good workout
You don't have to use the workout mode to get a workout, though. I play in game mode. If you find that you can easily do a song without working up a sweat, move either to the next level, or try other songs that are a little harder.
I find now that I've been playing since May, I have to play the standard mode to work up a sweat on a lot of the easier songs.

I'd perfer Lowe's just because every time I have walked into Home Depot I'm ignored by the associates.
I know exactly what you mean John. Everytime I have been in a Home DePot I have been treated rudely or just ignored. I have had very good experiences at Lowe's. Everyone is so friendly and helpful.
Besides I can't stand Tony Stewart and I am a Jimmie Johnson fan ;)

I bought DDR for the "workout" experience also...but I don't care for the workout mode, I guess because I'm not in competition for a good grade. On game mode, I can play for hours at a time, trying to get A's or AA's. I've been playing for about 6 weeks and still can't do better than a C on the really easy songs in standard mode though. Boohoo.
Question: anyone know the name of the song used in the 2nd lesson on DDR for PS2? Will I ever be able to unlock/play that song in game mode?

All it takes for me to work up a sweat since I'm out of shape is Butterfly (Trick, hidden), and Paranoia 180 (Trick, hidden). I think I need to play a little more.
- John, who is waiting to be ripped on by Natalie since sudden is gooder than hidden

How good of exercise do you people really think it is? I think it's great exercise and I really enjoy doing it!

If I were an artichoke, I'd give you my heart.
The left arrow on my Cyphergames Ignition pad has really been acting up lately (yes, I've tried flipping the foam, but don't want to cut up the material). It's amazing how much less fun DDR is when you can't get an A on a 3 footer due to an arrow, especially when you've AA'd seven-footers and passed a few 9's. Anyways, I was planning on getting a new one anyways to venture into doubles world. Perhaps I should now get two new ones with the discount??? I honestly expected to get more than two months out of it, but it is still probably the best home pad for the buck. It's still usable, but can be kinda discouraging... ;)
Excercise-wise, I think DDR is excellent, but that is hardly the reason I play. I NEVER did anything remotely aerobic pre-DDR, but I do think it has increased my stamina and coordination dramatically.
Den, Era on maniac is probably one of my favorite songs to play.

1) Avoid the temptation to bring your feet back to the middle after every step.
2) Listen to the music. It's not just about seeing the arrows, you have to hear them.

Operation Wicked Twister
Goal: Lose enough weight (50lbs) to ride Wicked Twister in 2K3
Progress: 14 pounds since 1-1-2003
On the original DDR, I stuck with the songs that had a very specific beat at first. Boom Boom was my "learning" song.
Just stick with light mode at first, with the 1-3 footers until you get the real hang of it. Once those become easy, move to the higher footers, or to standard mode.
I've been playing since May, and I've only passed one song on heavy.
Like Den, I alternate when I'm trying to "work out". I start off on the lighter, easier step songs to warm up, then gradually move to more strenuous songs. I drop back to easier ones to cool down when I get too winded, and then go back up again.
I never play for less than 30 minutes, and most times will go at it for up to 2 hours.

astrosgp - Era is one of the first maniac songs I worked on, but it's still a challenge. The entire final section after it speeds back up is insane, with the repeated pattern of three of the same arrow eighth-notes in a row at 180 BPM... it kills me.
How come they don't sell any decent pads in stores?

95 lbs lost since I've started. I think it works better than any treadmill.
