DDR bug has hit hard

You do realize that the reason people smell funny on that diet is because they're slowly poisoning themselves, right? That diet screws up your body chemistry in a bad way.

Take it from someone married to a biologist... the only diet that works and is healthy is one that is balanced, including lots of exercise and portion control.

Hmph - I'm disappointed in y'all, leaving me stranded Sunday at an arcade filled to the brim with 9-year-olds... constantly running in front of the screen. :|

I finally passed Maxx Unlimited standard, with a D. That should be 9 feet. 321 Stars is such a cool song. I was right earlier when I said it'd be one of my favorites. However I was *wrong* when I said I could handle Saints Go Marching heavy, 'cause I failed it three times.

I did finally play Paranoia Survivor, which is really unlike the other versions as far as the step patterns go. I passed Bag on standard x2 pretty easily, but failed on heavy x2... I'll try x3 next time...

Ska a Go Go and Cartoon Heroes both rock.

Gee, 'playa...we now "smell funny" because we eat less carbs, just like our ancestors did before processed sugars and carbs became a natural part of their diet.

Since my doctor, as well as two others I know, recommends the low carb alternative, I'm not worried about "poisoning" my body. Especially since I was put on a similar diet in my mid 20's when I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia.

Hmm, I always thought it was B.O., but now I know it's just my diet. w00t!!!11 (goes back to eating garlic-and-onion sandwich with cilantro and anchovies)

Actually I was seriously considering the Atkins diet when making my dietary choices and my friend and his wife who are both physicians both told me that they have seen so many people that have wrecked their bodies from such a diet. They did add, however, that if the diet is followed correctly that it isnt dangerous, but if one doesnt do the diet properly you could be looking at severe kidney damage along with a host of other medical problems.

Weight Watchers encourages one to eat healthy, maintain portion control, and to eat a minimum of food everyday so that one stays healthy throughout the course of the diet. I have lost 17 lbs thus far on it this year (almost more than is healthy in such a short time) and I am rarely hungry and I do eat a lot of what I like to eat.

I have never had to deal with diets and weight, but many friends and family members of mine have had success with the Weight Watchers point system. You can eat anything you want, but each item counts toward a number of "points," and you can eat only so many in a day.

I think for a man, it's 21 points. So a big ol' slice of pepperoni pizza might be 12 points, a piece of fruit is 1 point or a vegetable is 0 points.

points are based on height and weight, with the opportunity to earn more points through activity, so everyone's daily range varies

And I earn tons of points playing DDR!!!! See, it all comes back to the main topic :)

Is it just me or are the points in DDR ridiculous? I mean, for a heavy song, your final score might be 20,000,000 points. Why couldn't a perfect be 10 points, a great 5 points, etc.?

D'oh... forced to double post. Well, Daniel Spooner/Robb was threatening to put this thread in Page 2-dom!

I'm not gonna let that happen. --- say in Clint Eastwood voice.

I agree Den, it is insane. DDR's points are way to high and even if you aren't that great, you could pick a relatively easy song and still get a lot. The way I think the points system should go is like this....

"Perfects" Should be worth 15 points.

"Greats" Should be worth 10 points.

Everytime you get one correct but isn't a "perfect" or "great" is 5 points.

Everytime you falsely step on a square is a minus 1 point.

Every "foot" or level of difficulty is equal to 100 points. (only if passed)

Your grade would add on points aswell but I haven't figured out all of the different possible combos for that and haven't been able to work out a point system.

This might not be the best way, but it's the way I'd like to see.

Darth - not bad, except for the falsly stepping on squares. It's part of the game to step on squares that aren't on the screen. i.e. if there is a single step in a line of jumps, just go ahead and make it a jump. I do it all the time.

Good point Den! I'd never really thought about doing that. It's a good idea though because sometimes I'll get off balance on jumps that alternate into one step.

BTW, has anyone ever thought of saving up the 5,000$ and actually buying their own DDR machine? Although that takes a lot of money out of you, I think it'd be pretty awesome to actually own one. Oh well, PS is fine for now....

I've always wanted to own an arcade game... *any* game would be cool. One of my neighbors has an old Pole Position but they keep it outside in the garage!

Anyway, if I was going to get an old game, I'd get Super Pac-Man. Probably could get it for $700.

Think again... I've seen the Super Pac-Man machines for well over a grand. They aren't that hard to find, however.

My pinball machine cost a little over $2k. New arcade machines can cost as much as $10k, while some of the old used ones can be had for around a grand, sometimes even less.

While I'd like to own a DDR machine, I really don't have the room for it, even if I could justify the expense. The Jurassic Park pinball would have to go, and I'm not willing to part with that!

I have the perfect space for a DDR machine, but I really don't think the wife would go for it, considering I've spent over $500 on DDR home equipment and probably $300 playing the game in the arcades... now she *did* give me "permission" to get an older stand-up arcade game sometime... w00t!!1

Just out of curiousity, does anyone have the RCT pinball machine? I forget how much they were going for but they did look pretty interesting.

If I ever did come up with the money for a DDR machine, I'm sure I could find a place to put it. Right now there isn't any empty corner waiting for one but after a little rearranging, it would have a home. :)

I've never even seen that machine anywhere. In fact, I'm having trouble thinking of a place that has a good pinball machine. (not that South Park crap and l@m3rs machines at GameWorks with the holograms in the middle of the play field, etc.

What I wouldn't give for just one game of Funhouse. I think perhaps up to $2.

Den, the TA truck stop off of I-70 near London usually has the most recent release (last time I was there they had RCT and Playboy). RCT will probably change out with the new Simpsons Pinball Party as soon as it's available.

Seems to be about the only place around Columbus with the most recent machines.
