DDR bug has hit hard

The CPlaya 100--6 days, 9 parks, 47 coasters, 2037 miles and a winner.....LoCoSuMo.

It's not old school to me. I just started in August.

To continue my Gameworks rant - at least half of the other games we played had something wrong with them. Either the gun was miscalibrated by about a foot, or a button or device was broken. You'd think the most expensive and biggest arcade in town would be able to keep up on maintenance.

Oh, also half the place smelled like vomit.

Especially the vr coaster that thing smelled like the bottom of bobby brown's mercedes after a night of hard drinking and coking it up.

It's hillarious to go to the mall were people think its still $2.00 a play and amaze all the simpleminded inbreds who think ddr is a type of cough suppressant. I did candy vocal on heavy with a perfect combo and people thought I was like E.T. or some other phenom.....a white guy who has rythmn.

And here I was happy because I got a C on Rythym and Police on light. SIGH.

Played four machines in Orlando last week. First was at Disney/MGM's Pizza Planet, a USA version (the better one, not the ghetto version). Second one was a Disney Rave version in the exit shop of Space Mountain. We owned the Electric Light Parade. Then in IOA on Sunday the arcade in Superhero Island had two machines, a USA and a MAX2. Both were five songs, at $1.25 and $1.50, respectively. I was doing just five and six-step songs, but seeing as how these locations don't have the regular mallrat bastards trying to show off, Stephanie and I might as well have been gods. Good times.

Oh, quasi fifth location at South Park mall in Cleveland where we bought KicksTheSky and Robodud lunch for picking us up at the airport. The teen twits thought they were all that until Rob got up there and did some 8-step doubles. They were drooling with envy.

Heh. At GameWorks on Saturday, there was this dude who thought he was the shizz-nit because he could freestyle to Afronova light (freestyle = jumping around in circles). Then he barely finished Max 300 whilst raping the bar the entire time.

And then when we weren't playing, he said to me, "Yep, college is tough." When I didn't reply, he repeated, "DeVry, that's tough." I wanted to say, "Whatever, dude, I graduated 5 years ago," but I didn't. :)

Lol, (useless rant):We get alot of those punks in SE wisconsin who think they're cool because they repeat the same move over and over i e handslaps and kneedrops to basic songs. They can get away with it at the mall and be impressive so they apply the same logic to the arcade and get put back in their place. "Oh yeah! Well I can pass max 300 on standard." I try to ignore it whenever possible and just let my legs do the talking for me. But when push comes to shove just step on their arrows periodically and messup their score until they finally lose. That way they become more cautious about their score and stop doing dumb repetitive free"style" moves.

Another thing that makes me mad are people who periodically yell things like "fag" "FAG!!" and "Look at the fag man hes such a fag" Usually when I turn around these people are wearing either football jerseys or fubu shirts or are in biker gear. They then flip me off and go play a game like silentscope or house of the dead 2 for an hour. Or how about "cock roaches" the people who decide to play the game and feel they must stomp as hard as they can to get a good score. When the thing wrong is their timing. I was at the mall watching in horror as two girls decided it would be fun to jump up and down and stomp on the stage as hard as humanly possible using the trickbar for extra assistance. Thanks to them the down button on the left side is out.

Disney Rave -

Are those 2 words allowed to appear next to each other? If it was really called the "Disney rave" version, they are about 10 years or more too late!

Colonel - surprisingly I've never run into any of the "fag" yellers that I've heard so much about. Most people around here either watch in awe or shrug and ignore you.

I do get annoyed, though, with the stompers. Also annoying: people who return to the center after each step; kids who play the same song three times in a row; people who don't pay attention to the coin line, or try to cut; parents who let their toddlers climb up on the pad behind you and you almost crush them; people who give up too easily; overly self-conscious people who want to play but refuse to because they're embarrassed.

Hmmm, a lot to be annoyed about. Well, believe it or not, most of my DDR arcade experiences have been positive. I've met quite a few cool people.

Dave and Buster's here in Columbus also has Pump It Up (the diagonal arrow game). It's no DDR, but for what it is, it's pretty fun.

I think the best DDR deal ever is at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace. DDRMAX2, still 50 cents for 3 songs, it's turned up loud and the place is open 24 hours. And it's 10 minutes from my house!

Try 5 songs with joint premium on for 75 cents down here in Cincy (MAX2 @ Wonderpark - ohioddr.com for directions). Just can't beat 5 doubles songs for that price.

Oh yeah, Pump rules.

Chris

Is Wonderpark in the Forest Fair Mall? I used to love that place in high school but it was kinda deserted last time I was there (4 years ago).

That sounds like an awesome deal, but the best thing about the bowling alley location is that it's always open. I went at 2 a.m. the other night.

What is joint premium?

Yes, Wonderpark is in the revamped Forest Fair mall. It's in a different location than where Time Out used to be. It's across from Media Play in the mall. It's one of only two in the country and it's the place with the indoor roller coaster 'Boa Squeeze'. You can check out their website at Wonderpark .

Joint Premium is a setting in the machine which allows you to let the player play any mode for one credit. So you can play a two player game for one credit, or you can play doubles for one credit. Thus, if you're playing this machine with another person, it would be 5 songs for roughly 37 cents. Not too shabby eh?

Chris (who still prefers Pump to DDR, but only because we got Pump first down here. Not to mention our D&Bs is beta testing the latest version; 'PIU:Extra Plus'. :) )

So when you're playing two player with a stranger, who decides who pays? That could get confusing.'

Next time I'm in Cincy I will give that mall another try. Only one mall in Columbus even has an arcade!

The DDR Disney's Rave machine in the Space Mountain arcade was actually my first DDR machine ever waaaay back in June. I failed miserably while trying to do Main Street Electrical Parade, although I'm sure that now I can do it with no problem.

Heads up to you Northern Ohio folks- Midway Mall in Elyria now has a ghetto DDR US 1st mix (No Boom Boom Dollar, it's Strictly Business instead) at $.50 for 3 songs. Also Swings-n-things in Olmstead Falls has a Korean 3rd Mix 1st version.

I got a B&M T-shirt!

At aladdin's castle in greenfield WI they replaced their third mix with a 5th mix. I'm going wednseday to check it out. Finally I'll get to do cafe heavy in public. I think it's either .50 or .75 a play. Anyone in that area check it out. Check ddr freak for the address.

Since I was listed as an "exhibitor" at IAAPA this year, I went onto the show about 2 hours early a couple of days and got to check out the floor. The first two days I walked right past the operating PIU machines even though there wasn't anyone around.

On the final morning, I finally got around to playing PIU at IAAPA a few days ago. To be honest, I didn't care for it much. Perhaps I need to give it a few more tries or something but it didn't feel "right". That's the only way I can describe it.

I did get in a few "modified" games at Moxor's booth. This company sells kits for DDR and PIU and had a DDR machine at their booth highlighting their programs. There was a whole new selection of songs as well as some very, very, difficult modes.

I ended up getting to know the crew at that booth well by the final day and anytime I would pass by, they would ask if I would like to play a game or two. How could I pass up that?

Sean, what did you exhibit??

I got my soft pad from Cyphergames last night... and it rocks! Believe it or not, I like it almost as much as my metal pad. It's comfy on the feet, *very* sensitive, and only slides a little bit. And it came with an hilarious set of Engrish instructions!

Thanks for the recommendation, Jeff.

Den can you either scan the engrish instructions or take pics? www.engrish.com This site is hillarious. There's a T-shirt that says I hate myself I want to die written in happy lettering with a rainbow in the background. Also beware of dracura.
