DDR bug has hit hard

You made my day with that web site Colonel Sanders! Too funny!

Next time I'm in Cincy I will give that mall another try. Only one mall in Columbus even has an arcade!

It's expensive here. . $1.50 for joint premium play. So, we just split it $.75 each. The real question is who chooses the songs :)

Sean, what did you exhibit??

I was working at the ACE booth for a couple of days.

I got my soft pad from Cyphergames last night... and it rocks! Believe it or not, I like it almost as much as my metal pad. It's comfy on the feet, *very* sensitive, and only slides a little bit. And it came with an hilarious set of Engrish instructions!

Awesome! So, when do you want to meet up at Gameworks?

-Sean

Which gameworks? I'm going to the one in schaumburg I.L. on Dec the 8th.

Colonel - he's talking about the GW in Columbus, OH, so you're out of luck this time. ;)

Sean - I don't think I want to go to GW anymore due to bad experiences (see further up in this thread)... but we need to hit the bowling alley soon. Sometime next week? Have a good weekend.

Meanwhile in snow country (except it has yet to snow--and stick) I'm waiting for my pads to show up. They were loaded on the FedEx truck in Bloomington this morning.

While we wait, I'm milking this big-time. CBaby and Da 'Midget are scrubbing floors with their personal toothbrushes and no one gets to play 'till I can see tomorrow in the reflection.

My son had me playing last night, for 2.5 hours. He's got me "in training" on standard mode, and pushing me on the harder lights. I certainly worked off the prime rib thanksgiving dinner my sis-in-law made (yeah, prime rib on turkey day---so I'm making my OWN turkey dinner on Sunday).

My son's training is paying off as I finally aced rythym and police on light, a two more songs on standard. Might not seem like much to you youngsters, but it was a milestone for this old lady. What is more amazing is I didnt' even wake up sore and stiff this morning.

Way to go, But I can ace rythmn n police on heavy.(Just Kidding) If you practice at least an hour a day, I bet you could reach the ability to do heavys in about 3 weeks.

After I saw the movie Jackass last night for the second time, I decided to try DDR for a second time at the arcade in the theater (Muvico, Arundel Mills mall). I tried the game at Kings Dominion and was absolutely horrible the first time. I even walked away mad because of how much rhythmn I didn't have in my feet. Last night I kicked butt on the thing, well, at least for a beginner level. I made it passed round 2, when we were running out of time, I passed the game on to another playing and then I realized there are only three rounds unlike the vast amount I was imagining. So the guy lost in the final round of the game that I started. I can't wait to jump back on the game again!

Now I know why it is so addicting for many people.

Also, I think I might actually have an idea of what I want for Christmas! Hehe.

I found an arcade open on Thanksgiving and introduced my teenage neice to DDR. She loved it! She just got a Playstation 2 so she will be asking for the new DDR for X-mas. I picked her up a MadCatz soft pad on sale at Target for $15! woo-hoo!

Ugh, MadCatz!

I just took my MadzCatz back to Target for $20. As soon as I find the box, the other one will find its way back to Wal-Mart--if I can conceal the little tears, I guess.

Seriously--go get her those lovely soft pads everybody keeps linking you to. I got mine Friday and while I've been too busy painting to play much, they are unspeakably good. I'm finally dancing the two-panel dances with confidence. CBaby finally gets A's on her favorites. It's like a dream come true and worth every last penny.

Playa- I second that. If I had played one of those Cyphergames soft pads before buying my steel pad, I probably wouldn't have bought the metal pad. They're that good.

I have to say I'm shocked too. Why buy the Red Octanes at $100 each (ok, $80 each if you buy two) when these work pretty well? Robodud was over the other day blasting out seven and eight-step songs no problem, so they certainly respond the way they should.

I am seriously thinking of getting DDR and the softpads for my 15 year old niece for xmas. She hasn't played yet, but I'm sure she'd love it, if anything because it's a guy magnet.

CPLady - are you sure you want your niece going out with the types of guys who like DDR? ;)

Funny Den, I was thinking that it is NOT the game that attracts young males in the first place...its the young girls PLAYING the game...(or brushing their hair, or giggling, or ANY of the other things young girls do)....;)

moral of the story - the "guy magnet" is NOT electronic in nature, it's biochemical....:)

Gator - actually, I think the game attracts basically the same crowd as every other video game does... i.e., nerds. :) It's just that this particular game offers an outlet for certain skills that easily intimidated nerds usually keep hidden.

-Dennis (self-professed nerd who's seen maybe two females over the age of 15 playing DDR in his life.... and about 10,000 males)
