DDR bug has hit hard

Man, great memories of Boomers. They have so many DDR machines, yet they all managed to have a good 20 min wait the day I was there. The option at the time was to ride the Hurricane 10 times or play one game of DDR...go figure.

I played Pump It Up for the second time last night at D&B. It was hilarious because there was a HUGE group of half-drunk middle-aged people taking turns forcing each other to play. Some of them just stood there staring at the screen; others tried to hit the arrows as soon as they appeared on the screen. I laughed.

Then when my wife and I got up there to play, they oohed and ahhed at us when we passed a Level 2 song (equivalent to a 1 or 2 footer on DDR).

The whole time I was thinking, man, I wish this was DDR and I could *really* show them how to play. It was frustrating because I could read the rhythms fine, but my legs kept getting tangled. The way the arrows are placed on the stage, it feels like you have to spread your legs too wide. I still think PIU is pretty fun though.

The best thing to come out of all this is that my wife finally played a dance game *with* someone else (I only have one pad at home), and she liked it so much, she asked me to buy another pad. Woo-hoo!

Sounds like my experience at D&B in Cleveland. We worked our way up to "level 4" songs pretty quickly, and people were just amazed. Easily impressed crowd, and I would've loved to show them "End of the Century" or "Afronova" on a DDR machine. I know those aren't that hard, but people are easily impressed by them. :)

Yeah, we were going to stick around and play some more, but then a bunch of Korean guys came up and *REALLY* impressed the crowd. So we played Silent Scope instead. :)

Has anyone else had problems with getting stuff from Cyphergames.com? I ordered a hard pad about 3 weeks ago and haven't received it yet. I e-mailed the company and the e-mail came back as Undeliverable and have tried to call but the phone rings and rings......

I paid by credit card so I am not too worried about geting the charges taken off but still was looking forward to that hard pad. Oh well, my Madcatz pad has been working out pretty good and I have 2 arcades with DDR real close to get my 'fix" :)

My CG Metal pad took a while becuase of the shipping workers that were on strike a month back. How long ago did you order?

Got a FedEX # too but looks like Fed EX never picked it up to deliver it...

Still hoping to get it though! DDR is my new 'workout' during Michigan winters ;)

We got our Deluxe Ignition pads within 7 days shipped FedEx. And I'm with you Catherine. This may be my 16 year old's game, but I'm playing specifically for the workout through the winter.

Sometimes, having an arcade with three DDR machines nearby *isn't* a good thing.

$45 in 7 days, folks. All because the soft pads suck.

Chernabog - it doesn't get better if you have a steel pad - I still spend a ton in the arcades.

I'm going to get one o' those Ignition DX pads tonight. So they don't slip or bunch up? Has anyone had to mod them?

I came within an inch of stomping my PSOne last night after the kids went to bed. I'm glad they didn't have to see that.

I have to get some better pads before Thanksgiving weekend. The MadKatz pads were okay for four-footers, but after a night of successive 8th-note combos, they bunch up and get kinda punch-drunk.

Worst of all, I'm really starting to like the five-footers. Maybe I can't interpret all the arrows, but when I do the results look more like dancing than an ant-killing contest.

Not bad for a guy who didn't play at all until page 4 or 5 of this thread...

I fully endorse these, and even with shipping they aren't that much more than the DPR2's:

I'm with Jeff. Those pads are so much better than the el cheapos. Even when my son is playing maniac mode they stay in place without bunching up.

OK, I just ordered one. Came to $38 with shipping. So, Jeff and CPLady, you better be right! ;)

Wonder if it'll be weird playing doubles with one steel and one soft pad.

Should've bought two. Stephanie is having fun with doubles right now.

Already got one pad. It's just different. I couldn't very well justify owning three pads, could I??

LOL ...I thought I'd share this...

So my parent's had over my aunt and uncle and my grandma. And after dinner, Dad says... "Go show em that Dance thing you do all the time"...So I Laughed and escorted them downstairs to the PS2. Turned it on...and went to Dynamite Rave, Maniac, with the six arrows. I usually get a B on it, and i was consistant this time too. So when i was done, breaking a bit of a sweat...my uncle says calmly... "Hmm...So that's why they need Ecstacy eh...?"

I dunno i thought it was funny ;)

OK, Gameworks *sucks* (at least the Columbus version does).

I tried to play tonight but the volume was incredibly low. Not to mention the house music was blaring. Everyone was playing DDR on the arrows alone... you could barely hear most songs. On top of that, the difficulty is incredibly high. On top of that, it's $1.50 per game. On top of that, the place is swarming with teenyboppers. You won't find me playing there again...

On the bright side, the two guys playing with me were not as good as I was.... that's a first. I got a B on Holic maniac and that impressed them (probably because you couldn't hear the music...).

Soft pad arrives Tuesday.... long live this thread....

STOP PLAYING DDR!

It's so old school. Go find a BeatmaniaIIDX machine and play it. Play it until your fingers bleed. Oh...and make sure it's 8th Style. It's all about Monkey Dance.
