The idea is indeed to control the quality of people contributing. It's not even about me trying to cover costs (though that's certainly a nice side effect). Hell, even if I were destined to make millions, I don't see why that's such a crime. I thought capitalism was an OK thing to do, not to mention it's nice to get paid for something you enjoy doing.
As usual, people have to make it about me.

please, that "why is it a crime to make money off the site" argument really pisses me off. it shouldnt be about limiting people because you want to make a few bucks. ive heard you mention in the past that you didnt want to make a "donations" page because you dont want hand outs but how is limiting non-members privilages any different from that? it isnt in my mind and by doing that its worse than asking for donations because you are essentially telling people they HAVE to pay if they wish to utilize your site which frankly doesnt offer much but thats another rant ;) yes doing this does take care of alot of the "problems" CBgames had but i really feel strongly that the negatives of the decision outweigh the positives by a long shot. you also mention this being about you, well how isnt it? this is your site afterall

Maybe if we just appointed a few administrators we'd have different results. Gonch comes to mind here. Make gonch an administrator, and appoint a mod or two. Then the idiots will be gone, and all the respectable members who couldn't pay will still be able to show their stuff.

But dude, if no one posts, just take off the option. We all love money, but you could be throwing away your site for it...

to speak to that last part of omars post, i think you are throwing away the site. CBgames would not nearly be as popular as it is (or was) if it werent for those who are negatively affected by this change. i think its a really dick move to shaft the loyal posters like this

I think Omar has good point. To take the stress off Jeff by placing and admin and a whole group of moderators. If needed I'd apply for a moderators postion in the RCT2 section. Other mentionable people for mod postions would be RCTandy, Ross McColl. Anything to keep this site free for the people.

In case you haven't been paying attention, that already IS in place. The problem is there is a HUGE flood of crap being posted in there, and none of us have the TIME to wade through it all. We already tried that, and it didn't work.

well how many people were there. if you get a large enough group of people who want to help the site then it will work. they also have to communicate with each other before anything gets deleted or changed

It's ok Omar im over it now. I'm just angry that I can't even reply to posts in my own coaster which I uploaded the day before. There should be changes to what you can and can't do.

And where do you propose finding this "large enough group"? People who WANT to moderate, generally aren't going to be very good for the job, since they'll abuse it themselves.

Then factor in the challenge of having a "large group" that's distributed all over the place. You're hurting the very thing you're trying to help. There's a software engineering principle called the Mythical Man-Month, which is applicable here...

Ok these are just suggestion for the "group" of moderators. Me, RCTandy, Omar, Lord Gonchar, Ross McColl, The Force of G, Kick the Sky, and bb_dg.

we are all good designers, we know whats good and bad, we will automatically delete bad/stupid/immature uploads (instead of instant ban, this way people will know not to upload crap but still be able to upload) and just delete posts that start flame wars. I know im on this site so often its not funny.
