Can Cp get another woodie?

I'm talking about CP! Not anywhere on the planet.

It is a FACT that The Voyage is the greatest thing on the planet!!
^Anywhere on the planet but Cedar Point!! ;)

This thread has cracked me up because it's titled CAN Cedar Point build another woodie. Hell yes they can, and they have plenty of money and room for one too. Will they? Well we can argue about that until the cows come home.

Mooo!! ;)

What summers/dinn coaster is as good ten years later as it was when it opened?

Well, Hercules is firewood now, and you could argue that that's an *improvement* over when it opened.

Oh man....that was pretty bad Brian, but true!! LOL :)

Hmmm...Georgia Cyclone is the only Summers/Dinn coaster I thought was decent. But I haven't ridden it in several years. Yeah it was rough...but the back seat was amazing. I always had a difficult time seeing Summers with that ride.

Other than that, the Giant would be my only other guess. But that ride has been changed so much over the years I'm not sure that would be considered *just as good as when it opened*.

Are you asking a question?

Texas Giant hurt me so bad, even worse than Mean Streak hurts. It felt like my ribs were going to break around every turn.

Seriously, I'm convinced that if that EXACT layout were built at Knoebel's or Kennywood, it would be running great without brakes to this day, and it would be on many top 10 or 20 lists.
Not a chance. Have you seen the ride? It's boring. The layout isn't even remotely interesting.

Besides, I've talked to certain engineers that were involved in the design of some of your favorite rides, and he believes maintenance is not the issue.

Jeff is right about that it is boring. Knoebels & Kennywood would keep it up better so that it doesn't jackhammer but the ride even in mint shape is forceless and boring. I rode so called "Mean" Streak back in 1991 when it was a brand new ride and it was still a POS back than. Thank God for Magnum which at that time was a new coaster for me otherwise it would have been a wasted trip.

OK - I'll re-phrase & elaborate.

I rode Texas Giant & Mean Streak their first years and they were very good (and on many peoples tops lists). Granted Kennywood or Knoebel's might not want such overblown, boring layouts (I'm agreeing, not sarcasm), but all I meant was that they would be running more or less just like day one at those venues, probably with the original trains! (Falling from grace because of the many great rides built since notwithstanding.)

Also, I'll be the first to admit that I may be suffering from "faulty memories" of these older "first rides". Back then, my track record was closer to 48 than 648 - what did I know?? *** Edited 6/29/2005 2:34:27 AM UTC by Fubar***

Back-seat air-time whore.

But you see, it can't run the same. It will never run the same. Unless you tear it down and rebuild it, it won't run the same. It's not just an issue of retracking it, it's bigger than that, and structural. That ride is perpetually retracked. The problem is not the six guys climbing the ride before sunrise.

Boring is the biggest problem I had with Meany. It wasn't rough, it just sucked.
Having ridden it completely loaded and untrimmed, I can say that it can still run with the best of coasters. I thought it was less "rough" when they let it run how it was meant to run. I know that it's structually flawed, but the ride still has the ability to deliver.

It's still me, here from the beginning back in 1999. Add 1500+ posts to the number I have in the info section if you care about such things.
No it don't! It don't have that ability to run well! It sucked! Just as big a POS as that overbraked High Roller @ VF! That ride (MS) lacked airtime when it first opened. Never was a good ride! NEVER! :-(

It is a FACT that The Voyage is the greatest thing on the planet!!
When it opened you rode Magnum for airtime and you rode Mean Streak for wicked laterals and a very long ride (timewise). Why must you dismiss every ride without airtime, or in Hades' case not the best possible artime? There are many more things a ride should be judged by other than the airtime it delivers.

Look at The Raven and The Legend at Holiday World. Do they have an exuberant amount of airtime? No, are they still two of the best coasters in existence? Yes. Pacing and laterals are just as much of the formula as airtime. Broaden your view on what makes a coaster fun before you fall into the enthusi-ass category.

Too late, CPGenius.
I happen to agree with CPGenius. Since when is the coaster community's opinion the only one that counts? Only to the enthusi-asses. Mean Streak is a fine coaster and fun to ride. Don't like it? Don't ride it. Simple, instead of waging campaigns to convince the entire coaster community that it's boring, forceless, and only your opinion counts.

They trim it to keep the speed down so the structure doesnt rip apart not to make it smoother.

Waging campaigns? That makes it sound as if it takes effort.

A great many people are simply bored--if not roughed up. Just the way it is.
