Can Cp get another woodie?

In CP's case, you'd have to call it Cost Per Booking (CPB). Or Mt Olympus for that matter...

I had the same concerns about Hades' cost since that is several million and rides at that park seemed like they ran 5 times an hour all last year. After talking to some people, I found out that the owners of MtOlympus own several attractions up and down the strip. Apparently, the park alone does not support the coaster. People come ride the coaster for a while, and then go to other attractions that also pay the same company. At least that is what was explained to me.

I know Timberfalls and Pirates Cove are joint, but they might own other attractions too. I know a lot of people ride Avalanche once or twice and then go do a round of minigolf. There might be other things near by that also support the ride even if they are billed as something different. I don't think you can really compare what happens in the Dells to a normal theme park.

I agree that you can't compare the Dells and normal amusement parks. Other than the fact that they are all in business to turn a profit and must make wise investments.

Like I mentioned, I don't know their finances. As far as I know Timber Falls could be a stand alone business or they could have several attractions to help spread the costs around. BUT if I were in management I would want a coaster to help bring in people to visit their other attractions rather than relying on things such as mini-golf to help recoup their investment. Now I'm not saying that's happening, but it isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Yeah is Good!
The point was that park admissions don't drive the decisions as much as the hotel bookings. See it now?

It is probably my favorite ride, but it may be a failure if it does not put butts through gates. It was walk-on the 2 days I was there last summer...

I don't know if that's a fair way to judge it- by this standard Raven is also boarderline failure because for the entire first half of the summer is it very common to walk on. Honestly the waterpark is what gets most "butts" through the gates at Holiday World, but I don't think anyone in their right mind would call either coaster in the park a failure.

Walk-on status doesn't equal failure. You can board Iron Dragon and Corkscrew at CP quickly on most days, but they're still among the top 10 rides in the park.

'Playa: not all CP decisions have been motivated by drawing the far-out-of-town visitor. The Soak City tower (while sorely needed to improve park capacity) was barely marketable. Maxair might be a bit of a better draw, but I'd still put it squarely in the "can't really sell it more than a few hours' drive" camp, particularly because there is another one just like it four hours to the south.

Of course, these two "soft" marketing years are after what may have been the BEST marketing push ON THE PLANET. They also happened whilst the resort side itself was undergoing very major expansion in the form of Castaway. So, YMMV. Will there be a Big Deal installed soon? If TTD's heads-in-beds drawing power wanes, I'd say so. Do all expansions need to play to the resort? Probably not.

Well you can't -est with everything!

Maxair is more the 'different ride experience' thing. I wouldn't mind them -esting with some flats...provided Huss can build them a lil' less cranky. *shakes fist at VF Riptide*

Wasn't MaXair also the fastest, tallest, swingiest (OK, highest arc) for a ride of its type? ;)

One thing is certain, *if* CP builds a woodie, they should NOT try them to claim any records(like that other Ohio park did with their SonOfABeast woodie)....well, maybe capacity on a double wooden rollercoaster... ;)

I'll take Dueling Sons Of OzCat please....next to the twistee freeze ice cream stand...sweet! :)

Triple racing/dueling, anyone?
Kinda like Stampedia? Well, not really, but it does race/duel with 3 tracks with the kiddie woodie at some point.

I personally don't think they'd have to market the particular mid-sized woodie as an 'est' ride. If they build it after they build something to compete with another 16+ park, then they can have the MOST coasters at any one park, and that is a draw in and of itself that they use quite often...even if it is only half true...

I've heard rumors of a possible record-breaking woodie soon. It'd go by Wicked Twister.

Just a rumor.

Top Thrill Dragster..ALWAYS NUMBER ONE

That would make sense, considering that they are trying to redo that whole area, but I don't know if it would actually go through, although I would love to see it happen. *** Edited 6/15/2005 4:16:05 PM UTC by coastergurl***

Uh, hello! I already mentioned it in this thread :) and I've been calling for a Stampida type coaster to take the place of MS for a few years now. That would give CP the Jr. woodie that several people, me included, think that they could use along with some updated wood. Add a spinning coaster and some flats and all of a sudden a dead area of the park just might spark back to life.

Yeah is Good!
I hope the rumor about a record breaking woodie for 2007 is true. If they wood (pun intended) build it no doubt it wood (again pun intended) an Intamin plug & play woodie with the prefab track. And don't get me started with the giant woodies are rough BS because of SOB! I know SOB is rough because I've ridden but Colossos after 5 years somewho just rode it still say it is quite smooth so CP would be SMART to build one of those. The qustion now is is there enough space for a 250' tall 7500' long Balder type woodie behind WT on the beach? That is the ONY place @ CP I can think of where such a woodie could fit without taking too much out of the park. Removing a ride out of the park really sucks unless you are taking out MS (Since that is the biggest POS on the planet beside SOB @ PKI)! :-) *** Edited 6/27/2005 4:49:45 AM UTC by Pink Floyd Fanatic***

It is a FACT that The Voyage is the greatest thing on the planet!!
CP would be smart to build a few more flat rides and forget about coasters for another couple years. Oh, and a waterpark expansion might be good for them, and perhaps something smaller for the kids.

Cedar Point does not need another record-breaker.

Timber Wolf was a success. Other than that, it is pretty safe to say that CF hasn't had very good luck with wood.

When it comes to wood - you make your own luck. Comes down to TLC the bigger parks just don't want to provide.

It's not a matter of not wanting to provide it as much as not wanting to spend the money. Six full-time union carpenters work on Mean Streak year-round. Other than Dragster, no other ride there costs as much to maintain. Granted, the thing is poorly designed, and that's why it's expensive to maintain, but I think anyone would be gun shy after that.

Six carpenters? Too bad none of them actually have the task of greasing the track! ;)

Seriously, I'm convinced that if that EXACT layout were built at Knoebel's or Kennywood, it would be running great without brakes to this day, and it would be on many top 10 or 20 lists.

Anywhere on the planet? Only in your imagination. I hope.
