Anyone Glad that Holiday's new coaster is not the longest?

How the thread title turned into "everything is better than the Beast" is beyond me...

Come on, Tek...not everything is better than Beast! I have 23 woodies in my rankings that I feel are worse ;)

But to say that only people who like the Beast have never been outside of Ohio, is, well, stupid.

No, coasterbuzzer...stupid is putting words in my mouth. I never said that. Besides, people can easily travel within Ohio and ride better wood! ;)

YEAH, Lets call it that.

Looks like *STEW* to me :)

True, moosh, there is Son of Beast ;).

And Psucklone.

And, well, some other sucky woodies.

Not many newbies see it this way, But the two best woodies to me in Ohio are Screechin Eagle and Big Dipper then a Villain and a Blue Streak.

Your milage may vary.
Chuck

Personally I think it's about time that the Beast's record length is broken it's had it long enough.

Eagle *stands* head-and-shoulders above the rest of the crap....er, crop, of wood in Ohio...

And if LONGER meant anything at all, Dragon Mountain would rank highly...it didn't... ;)

Good for you, Moosh. I'm sure you're proud of yourself.

Texas Giant

I see it. I've never been on Texas Giant but those swoopy, sweepy bunny hoops on the Voyage's return run look awfully similar to the flying carpet finale on the Texas Giant.

If I remember correctly from what I've heard TG has a simply massive number of drops. I wonder how it compares to the Voyage, because just looking at the diagrams, it looks like the Voyage is packing around 25 drops into its course (give or take.)

I'm with you. I can't think of a specific record being held for so long as the Beast has with its length. Truly remarkable! But, in the end, a coaster always has its shelf life and perhaps it really is best for the Beast to get beaten.

Chuck:

that is your opinion, but I don't consider myself to be a newbie, I have been riding the Beast since I was tall enough when I was 7 and around 14 years later still consider it the best wooden coaster I have been on. That might change with Voyage, but for now it is my favorite. I have been to several parks and rides all across the country. I have ridden almost all the wood coasters in ohio, including Blue Streak, Screachin Eagle at the defunct Americana, and Villion and Big Dipper at Geauga Lake. To me the Beast is by far the best one out there. Probably second is villion, blue streak third, and Screachin Eagle fourth. I like airtime, but that does not make a ride for me. I also like visuals, laterals, setting, among other things. For me the Beast delivers those things in spades.

I think it really is an issue of what you look for in a ride and wooden coasters. For me I don't think I will ever have a ride that just offers airtime in my top 5, so rides like phoenix, blue streak, among others, just won't be there. They will be in my top 10, but I go for more complete rides like Beast, Legend, and Knobels Twister. *** Edited 7/14/2005 5:16:34 PM UTC by Beast Fan***

Here is what i say, who cares about the length of the ride, just as long as it is a good ride. The Voyage looks like its gonna be a good one, lets just hope the hybrid thing makes good. I just hope that all of us clammering about records and such get a chance to get out and ride these rides, because these seem like the kind of people who are too angered about this stuff and then miss out because its going against their favorite ride or park. Geez get over it and have fun thats what competition is all about my friend.

You only mentioned woodies in Ohio and PA so I'm just curious: Where else have you been across the US? Athol? Wisconsin Dells? Bristol? Buena Park? Pigeon Forge? Branson?

Proud of myself for what? I'm not following you.

You can't judge a book by it's cover but you can judge a coaster by the screams

Not the one I am thinking of, Jimvy. I would say Ghostrider hurts like hell.....oops I just did. ;-)

I'm with you Tina, Ghostrider is bad and was not a good woodie when I rode it last month! An average woodie... give me Lightning Racers, GE Comet or Phoenix anyday instead!

When did I ever say there was a good woodie in Buena Park? I was just asking if he's ever travelled there.

And Bob? LOL!...touche ;)

coasterqueenTRN's avatar
I didn't say it was bad. It's just not *my* type of wood. My last ride on it (back at Solace) was very painful. I rode it once just to reaquaint myself with it during ERT and that was enough. I then went back to Xcel, Monte and Silver Bullet and STAYED there. ;-)

I am a HUGE GCI fangirl (which is evident by my "choices"). I will give Ghostie another try next March, though.

There is "good" rough and "bad" rough. Good rough (to me) would be Tsunami. "Bad" rough is SOB, Psucklone, and Mean Streak. Ghostrider was borderline "bad" rough last time although the guys were riding it all night long. Still, I felt a headache coming on quickly.

The last ride I had on the Beast (in April) was EXCELLENT.....my best ride ever. So I guess the woodies have their good days and bad days, then there are some that have no hope.....ever. ;-)
