Anyone Glad that Holiday's new coaster is not the longest?

I'm fine with Wooden Coaster 1. I don't scream the name of the coaster while I'm riding it.
As far as names goes "Wild Turkey" would have been my choice. Think of the marketing tie-ins:

Wild Turkey: Holiday World's First "Adult" coaster

lata, jeremy

--who knows this goes completely against HW's nature

Hundeprut.....I love it!!!!!

Good find Gator!

Fever I really enjoy the Simpsons. It's just a shame that I am starting to LOOK like Homer.
Ya know, Jeremy, I don't think they announced the name of the Turkey Chase Dark Ride. Perhaps they're holding out, and there will be gravy and Wild Turkey Oasis buildings around the new section?:)

I thought it was simply called "Turkey Chase"?

I don't scream the name of the coaster while I'm riding it.

I don't either. It's so embarrasing when I mistakenly get the name wrong, because it means no re-rides for me.

LoL. After I typed and read that, I knew someone would think something dirty. Contrary to Popular Beliefs (TM), that wasn't my intention, so I left it:).

I'm tempted...but I won't go there ;)

Oh dang! I just spilled my drink from laughing so hard. Nice one, Moosh.

Actually the longest coaster was the Pa switchback which was I believe 9 miles long for 5 cents a ride. The beast isn't in my top 10 wood and neither is Magnum in my top 10 steel.

Did you study geography at the same school you studied grammer?

Life is an amusment park -and I can't get off of the damn spinning teacups!
Thanks a lot Noble, you just made me burst out laughing while at work. Classic.

It's still me, here from the beginning back in 1999. Add 1500+ posts to the number I have in the info section if you care about such things.

I am a junior in mechanical engineering with a grade point average of 3.95. I work as a intern engineer at a fortune 500 company. If you want to comment on my education or my intelligence, at least know the facts. Anyway if you disagree with what I am saying that is ok, however quit the personal attacks.

Yes, people have traveled from many places that are not close to cincinnati to ride the Beast. That was my original point. Alaska, England, among others, and the Beast is probably up there with a few rides as the most well known coasters in the world. Besides the coney island cyclone, I can not think of another ride more famous. *** Edited 7/19/2005 9:17:55 PM UTC by Beast Fan***

Voyage and it isn't even built yet. It's all over the net, and there are some people in my group that are going opening day. ;-)
OMG, Beast Fan you're so smart. I want to be just like you when I grow up.

GPA doesn't mean JACK SQUAT about intelligence. All it shows is that you're good at turning in homework assignments. GPAs are overrated these days.

Irregardless of resumes and GPA's the most important things you learn in school are not in the classroom or at fancy pants interships. *** Edited 7/19/2005 11:34:14 PM UTC by ApolloAndy***

My first ride on the Beast was in '98 and I hadn't been to any park in 14 years previously. I had heard all of the hype about the Beast being the greatest. Boy was I surprised by how rough it was in the back seat. I had a bruise on my hip for a week afterwards. The only ride worse than the Beast was OLFoF. Thankfully I went to CP later on that trip and I've been hooked ever since.

I have ridden the Beast many times since and it has moved way up my list but is far from being the best. I finally got a couple night rides last year only to find that they lit up half the ride through the woods. What's up with that?

I have no doubt that the Beast is going to be knocked down a few more rung on the ladder when I ride The Voyage along with a couple of it's cousins in Michigan and Wisconsin.

Michael Darling:

Well once again, I don't want to get personal with this discussion. But since you started it, I will tell you some of my credentials. My SAT math score is 770, so I have mathematical ability along to go with my good grades. I am a hard worker, and take pride in my work ethic.

For example when I was working as a ride operator on the Beast for 3 summers, I would come home literally pouring with sweat. I worked as hard as anyone there, checking restraints, operating the controls, and in general assisting the guests. I was typically involved in the highest hourly capacities, and took pride in my work.

Now I no longer work there, but part of a co-op program and working as an engineer this summer at a fortune 500 company. I also take pride in my work there and consider myself to work just as hard. However the nature of that job is less physical and is more of a technical job indoors.

I might agree with you that grades are not everything. However that does not necessarly imply that someone that has good grades like me, is not intelligent or hard working. I go to a university that is well known for its reputation in engineering, and believe me there is no grade inflation there. The average grade point average, I assure you is much lower than mine.

I also have an interest in roller coasters in general, and read lots of technical articles on them. I also read any book that I can get my hands on relating to roller coasters. My personal favorites being The Incredible Scream Machine: A History of the Rolller Coaster by Robert Cartmell, and The American Roller Coaster by Scott Rutherfort.

Although I encourage you to quit the name calling, and stay on topic. I think this is not that place to argue or laugh at ones education or intelligence. To be honest, I have a lot going for me and quite educated for someone 21. This is my last reply to any further personal attacks about my education.

Back to the topic at hand:

For some reason no one comments on the main point I was trying to make. Why has the Beast length record held for so long. Was it out of respect for what the ride has ment to the industry? Is it because of economic reasons and the cost of builing a wooden coaster that long? Holiday World I assume had a possibility to break the record, or at least some people before they announced it thought they would. However the record as of now still belongs to the Beast. Also how many more years will it stand? I am not that naive to think that it will last forever, but it has had it since 1979, which is a long time for a record to stand.
