Adventureland (IA)

No thanks. I'm all for saving coasters, but Adventureland needs something a little better methinks.

When the park first opened there used to be a trolley that went all the way around the park. It got taken out when they put in the Tornado. You can still see part of the tracks as you are exiting the Tornado. The current A-train runs on part of the old route for the trolley.

A waterpark has to be in the works, even though we have Whitewater University just down the rode.

Please say your joking, WW is a disgrace of a waterpark.

I love the Tornado a lot more than the Outlaw, both were flying pretty fast when I went this year.

A nice Jr Hyper would be nice as long as they taer down that pos Dragon, it used to be fun but now you need a neckbrace when you get off.

Where did "Jr. Hyper" come from? What does that mean? Is anything under 200 feet now considered a junior coaster? (!)
All for a Rocket Coaster around the whole Park in place of the ATrain. now theres some ride interaction for ya.

I am all for a rocket coaster or Jr. hyper. But the A train needs to stay. They just are in my opinion missing out on something really cool if the train actually went over part of the rapids ride and then behind part of it to around the Outlaw and back to the front. That would even open up some space near both turnarounds of the train for more rides!

I really enjoyed the park despite what I thought to be pretty lackluster to lousy coasters.

A rocket would be cool but I don't think they would spend the money on that, they need a decent woodie ala Hades (still love Tornado though) or a decent 100-150 steel coaster.

Great ideas. The picnic/catering thing used to be the antique car ride area. A shame they took out a staple family attraction for a staple family "attraction."
I wasn't saying Whitewater University was a great waterpark, but it definitely is competition for anything Adventureland were to do waterpark-wise. Hopefully Adeventureland sees the light soon and builds their own. Then they can quickly build up the funs for the junior hyper.

True Matt,

I am surprised they don't have a waterpark but something they should look into.

It will be interesting to see what our home park is getting.

Well, terminology being what it is, i.e., variable....;)

Traditionally, a hyper is a coaster that has no inversions and *mimics* the feel of a wooden coaster and is over 200'.

A "junior hyper" is basically the same idea, lift-hill, no loops, hopefully lapbars, but is under 200'.

I'm adding to my list of annoying coaster terms.

My entire track record, with few exceptions (2 or 3 I think), consists entirely of jr. coasters now. How about that.

Sorry, I meant to mention that, millrace. I'd really like to see some hypers / jr. hypers with a couple of inversions thrown in. As Anton has poven, you can have ejector airtime on a looping coaster with lap bars. Imagine a layout like SFNE's Superman and thrown in a couple of vertical loops on the return leg. I'm not a fan of the loop after loop after loop rides, but I enjoy a good G-intensive loop once in a while. :)

It's a sad day when someone wouldn't want what many consider top 20 wood material and possibly top ten with different trains in their park.

Mega Zeph looks like pure insane fun.

Really? Your entire track record (aside from two or three) consists of rides that are made of steel, have no inversions, run with lapbars, are under 200' in height, and mimic the feel of a wooden coaster? Wow, your track record must be awfully small, then.

Yes, that's right. Most coasters I've been on all those things. That's changing though as my woodie list is soon going to overtake my steel list.
White Water University is no longer in business. They closed permanently after the 2004 season. The Smith family who owned it built and designed some nice Water Parks including White Water in Branson. In the case with WWU They were limited by the amount of land they had.

If I was planning an expansion of ALand. #2 on my list would be to purchase adjacent land and build a water park. DSM has to be one of the largest markets without a major family water park in the entire country. The only drawback is the very short season. The local pools only operate from mid june through mid august. *** Edited 10/29/2005 12:49:21 AM UTC by david1773***

Also be a big money maker because May and Sept. Water Adventurelnad or Waterland could be open and in May and September they will make more money because it's the only place open HUM

They could operate from Memorial day through Labor day.

Nice Observation

Originally this term was coined by DH Morgan when they opened Steel Eel at Sea World San Antonio. Basically it means that it has the characteristics of one of their larger 200'+ coasters, only it is below 200' in total height. They still pack quite a bunch though.
