The Magnum Love Thread

Ok, the peeps on this board that aren't magnum fans seem to have been really loud mouthed lately, and I am here to make my love for Maggie loud a clear. maggie is still my number 1 steel coaster after all these years, and its not because I am sentimental, it is because it is still the best steel coaster in the world. the pacing, the airtime, the veiw, the turnaround, the tunnels, the history......i really couldn't ask for more from a steel ride.

So please, if you feel the need to bash maggie some more, do it else where. This post is all about love. :) be happy!

I loved Magnum! It's not my number one, but it is one incredible roller coaster that deserves every bit of the praise it gets. It was innovative, and for any steel coaster to remain as popular as it is after twelve years is a major accomplishment. When a coaster that is 100 ft. taller is built in the same park, and Magnum still remains the favorite of many enthusiasts, you know that's something very special.

Its true! At the end of coastermania last year, i heard many people confirming their love from Magnum over MF. A lot of the magnum ride ops were very vocal about it. woo hoo!

Magnum is perhaps the last of the true 'steak and potato' coasters, built in the days before lab coats, desktop CAD and FEA took over.

It's big and it's red and it won't cradle you like your Mommy.

There's no wacky, new-age foot-swinging seating
There's no cartoon superhero for hawking souvenirs
There's no gimmicky theming to get you in some 'mood'
There's no artsy-fartsy re-engineered supports
There's no pansy, computer-tuned bunny hops
There's no Crayola-tone color scheme some 4 year-old picked out
There's absolutely nothing overbanked, hypertwistied, inverted or goofalooped about it

It's a plain old, bare knuckle, straight-up, no-chaser, big-hilled, out-and-back, jolt-you-into-the-lap-bar REAL COASTER built during a REAL COLD WINTER by REAL STEELWORKERS who probably ate big slabs of beef and downed vodka at the end of their workday.

If I want showmanship, I'll go see the circus.
For the last of the true coasters, I'll board Maggie.

Magnum is not my favorite steel, but CPlaya, your response makes me all nostalgic. Thanx much.

The more I think about it, the more I think that I liked Magnum better than Millennium Force. I only got one lap on each of these two monsters, but Magnum felt much more "out of control."

P.S. I will be eating Beef and swigging Vodka for dinner tonight in honor of CoastaPlaya's post!

I like coasters that feel "dangerous", and like it could throw a train at any moment. Magnum gives me the sense of fear and danger, and that why after riding 139 different rides, Maggie is still my favorite.

Great coaster - just hate the trains. Very small amount of room in the car.

Well i love Magnum but not as much as MF. They may be a close race, but MF still beats Magnum.

One more thing. STOP CALLING IT MAGGIE!!!

Haha, all you people RULE! Eventhough it is me #2 coaster (and always will be) behind The Force, it is still perfect. The only reason The Force gets the higher vote, well because, its more than perfect. I'll say my line againe I always use:

Magnum is a perfect 10. The Force is more than perfect at 20.

CPlaya makes an interesting point, that raises a question that I think has yet to be asked: WHO SAID HYPERCOASTERS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE SMOOTH?

Really, if I remember correctly, Magnum was supposed to be like a 'super-sized' wooden out and back coaster. Well what *good* woodies do you know of that are smooth? If I EVER rode a woodie that didnt toss me around a bit, I would sacrifice it to the pyromaniac idols as firewood. Therefore, I say that Magnum is perfect for what is was supposed to be.

So why the heck is this is a good thing. I have not rode this ride but I can conclude, that it is most likely a gimmick and only made for it's numbers. I can garentee you if this coaster was 9 feet shorter you people wouldn't like it as much (I don't care about numbers just how well a coaster is made).

Magnum is definitely my favorite steel hyper... after Steel Force, Son of Beast, Apollo's Chariot, Raging Bull, and Superman:Ride of Steel. It was just so overhyped, had an unoriginal layout, and plainly didn't have as many thrills, intensity, and airtime as the others. A number(200, 300, 400, 10,000) will never be innovative to me no matter how high. I'll say that I do love it when I'm at CP(which doesn't say much) and it's a great ride, but the "original" is usually never the favorite after others expand and creatively intensify the design. Every time I see it, "Classic" comes to mind. It feels that old.
