The Magnum Love Thread

Coaster*genius100:

1. This thread is meant for the love of Maggie. Please, I asked you to take your maggie bashing words elsewhere.

2. The whole point of this thread is that Magnum IS NOT about numbers. Its about how awsome Magnum truly is. Did you even read my post?

3. Please, do not tell me why I like coasters. I really don't see how it being 9 feet shorter would make a difference. Did you perhaps mean TALLER? Even if you meant that, that would not make a difference either. If i just ranked coasters by how tall they were, I would have put MF first, moron.

KoasterKing:

1. This thread was made expressly for people who love magnum. If you aren't one of those, and it seems like you aren't, then we don't want you in this thread bashing her. Didn't I make that clear in my first post? Go take these blasphemous words elsewhere.

[iSo why the heck is this is a good thing. I have not rode this ride but I can conclude, that it is most likely a gimmick and only made for it's numbers. I can garentee you if this coaster was 9 feet shorter you people wouldn't like it as much (I don't care about numbers just how well a coaster is made)."

Well, until you have "rode" this coaster you might want to reserve judgement. Your "garentee" has no basis. People love Magnum because it's a FUN ride. There is nothing "gimmicky" about Magnum, just out and back, with a lot of hills. I think CoastaPlaya spelled it out quite nicely!

Well, I wish I could share all of your loves for Magnum, but I can't! I thought it was rough and had no airtime!(this could be due to the 10 lbs. lapbars though.) However, night rides were MUCH better for me, and I actually enjoyed them, despite the roughness. There was just something about flying down that 2nd drop next to the beach at night, that sent my adrenaline pumping. Also, Magnum had the view of a lifetime, I will give it that much.

I love Magnum and that is why I am posting in "The Love Magnum" thread. Viva Magnum XL-200!

There are currently 11 coasters with the name Batman, 8 with the name Superman and 22 with the name Boomerang. Batman and Superman: The Ultimate Chiller Knight Flight Krypton Escape Ride.
This ride rocks!!! It is one of my favorites. For all those people who don't like it, try the front seat of any car. IMO, most arrows are a bit smoother in those seats. Besides the terror it invokes its victims now, Cedar Point only has to do one thing that would strike fear in the hearts of anyone who rides it, turn the trains around and ride that 205 foot drop backwards!!!

3 cheers for THE best steel coaster ever created! I would say something, but I feel that everything I feel about the Magnum has already been said (especially by CoastaPlaya).

Coasters...the best natural buzz available.
Why does a coaster have to be your personal #1 to be great? I say lose the numbers thing. Magnum is a great coaster, over-hyped or not. Just ride it.

aight aight y'all listen up cuz.. ok why am i talking like that.. I LOVE THE MAGNUM!! its still my number one! Yeah, and might I mention yet again that it was one of my very first coasters, Cried the whole darn time. ( i was seven, gimme a break)

I first rode Magnum last summer and was amazed. Magnum was the first of its kind and is still one of the best. Often the first coaster of a type is seriously flawed due to the designers having not quite figured out how to design a coaster of a particular type or what the public wants. After 12 years Magnum is still an excellent hyper. The return run especially is terrific.
Ok, I came to a conclusion. Generally, the majority of the people on here who don't like Magnum, myself included, had the 1st ride in 2000. I have heard that this was a bad year for the ride, so hopefully this had something to do with it, and I'll enjoy it more on my next visit.

I love the Magnum. Words cannot describe how much I love the Magnum. It was my first hyper coaster, and the coaster that sparked my intrest in roller coasters outside of my home park. Unlike most steel coasters, magnum has a distinct personality. I remember the first time I rode Raging Bull at my home park of SFGAm, and while I thought it was a very fun ride, it just didn't feel right, it was too smooth, too controlled. Magnum doesn't have seats that feel like lazy boy chairs, it is just a real coaster pure and simple. I love feeling like i am going to fall out of my seat on the pretzel, and I love flying out of my seat over the bunny hops home. There is nothing I can think of that I don't love about the ride. Last year i took a couple of my friends to cedar point for the first time, and after riding both MF and Magnum for the first time, they both preferred Magnum. Also, i really don't understand how anyone can say that Magnum has no air, i have ridden many many times, and have never experienced anything but massive air. Maybe it is possible, but i just can't imagine magnum not giving any air. Oh yeah, I love the Magnum.

Maggie is still in a three way tie with Mantis and MF for my number 1 steel coaster.

Plus it was my FIRST big coaster.

Thanks for your rude response ravenguy 98. I will charish it always. I love all coasters. Good or bad. So obviously, I love Magnum. Plain and simple. Who are you to judge me? I think I'm aloud to say whatever I'd like on a subject. Maybe I didn't love it AS much, because it is one of my most recent hypers paling in comparison to the others. AC had similar elements as Maggie but was much more fun, because of the pacing, suuroundings, etc. I think Maggie MAY rise on my list if they can get more open trains. It did nothing special for me. But again, it's a coaster, I love it, and can't wait to ride it.

It seems that most of the people that really love it feel that way because it was (one of)their first big coaster(s). I see the sentimental value(like I have for The Beast), but sometime's we need to get past that and realize there are other coasters out there. You just need to ride them(without comparing it to your first ride on such and such).

I can't help but think that if my first Magnum ride was in the last two years it would be way further down the list. I, like many others I'm sure, have been spoiled by the wonderful Swiss machines we've been given in the last few years. But, before 1999, there were no B&M hypers or Intamin hypers. I feel spoiled rotten by all these great rides, and I love every one, but Magnum will always be VERY special. I will never forget driving down the causeway in 89, and almost rear-ending another car because we were all looking at that big red thing.

Thanks for proving my point Peabody. That special feeling continues to live within and will let no other fill that place. Open up that place and live a more fulfilled coaster life. :)

I can't put into words my feelings for the ride. Its a part of my life and always will be. In a few weeks I will be getting my next CP tattoo and it will be the Magnum logo. I just got my first CP tattoo a week ago.

I am really glad to hear all of the positive comments about maggie, especially after hearing everyone bash it over the past few weeks. I will admit that it had a bad year last year, but from what I have seen this year it will be running better than ever!

Magnum's 'roughness' as people put it, is what makes the ride great. It's more like a wooden coaster than a steel coaster (as far as smoothness goes) It gives that classic 'out-of-control' feel that old-time coasters are supposed to be like. (something that MF lacks)

That is what makes the ride better than other hypers ie steel force. It feels jerky and crazy like a supercharged woodie.

life prevails for those daring to fail.
If Magnum was supposed to feel like a wooden coaster then why didn't CP build a wooden coaster? I'll take Shivering Timbers over Magnum anyday. Saying you like the fact Magnum is rough is in the same vein as someone saying they like a smooth woodie. It's just not right. There is a line between rough and intense you know.
