The Magnum Love Thread

Yes, I can....because I actually ride both of them. A lot. As I have for the past five years.

You see, VF is my home park and CP used to be--still is when I visit my folks. Of the dozens of visiting friends and relatives who have also been on both coasters, not one has ever thought Magnum and WT to be similar.

Of course, actually reading my post on the link I provided would have provided a few helpful clues.

And please reread my post prior to that one again....where I said I didn't resent younger folk for preferring 'smoothie' coasters and even like many of them myself. No need to take it personally--I'm addressing a much larger audience, not you. Generally, individual posters really don't command much of my attention.

I didn't read your post because I kept getting a technical problem. So, I just watched the video and I still see very similar layout(if you didn't know similar does not mean the same but within the same area). And feel was the wrong word choicing on my part. Sorry about that.

By what I see on WT, there's the lift, drop, hill, veer left, a big, long fancy turnaround followed by some bunny hops and tunnels into the station.

On Maggie, lift hill, drop, hill, veer left, fancy turnaround, followed by some bunny hops and tunnels into the station.

If they're both not made in a similar layout fashion then I don't know what is. Maybe the colors make them feel different. ;)

Of course you know from experience, but from layout they look a lot alike. And from what I've heard Magnum is better. I would probobly agree but I'll still have to see to make sure. I answered the quesion earlier from what I knew and what i've always been told. Thanks for clearing that up.

And I'm very familiar with the coasters from the 80s so just because I'm not from your time doesn't mean I have much less knowledge of the coasters especially the Arrow loopers which I thought were excellent(LNM, Vortex, Shockwave).

You need to lighten up. Coasters aren't life and death situations. Don't treat them as such. And your last comment digs you that much deeper into the outer realm(which you have obviously edited out by now).

Spread the love for Magnum and all coasters alike!

Ranked in order:
1) The pretzel--which IMHO has actually improved since they moved the brake run. You used to blow through it, now you hang (and hang) around.

2) The hop right before the camera, especially from 1-3. You should have seen the look on CBaby's face--she thought she was going for a swim. I am so crazy jealous of her 4'5" frame. Just to watch her literally BOUNCE out of her seat into a lap bar....

3) Tunnel #1 - back when they had the effects working.

On the other hand, I can't STAND waiting in line for Maggie for even a half-hour. I'm spoiled by WT, which runs with two trains (1200 pph) and a staff of 6-8 people every day and three trains on heavy days. I've grown quite accustomed to a walk-on hyper. Everyone should have one 20 minutes from home!

First, I tell you CoastaPlaya that the feel of the coasters probobly aren't the same. Then you come back and tell me that they do. What gives? Are you contradicting yourself or did you misread my post?

You know what else I really like about Maggie? The line. I like how it is nice and forested, and kinda isolated from the rest of the park. Its nice.

Here's a funny Magnum story....
(WARNING: Kids, don't try this at home)

When my friends and I were riding it during the debut season, one of my buddies bought one of those horrid screeching kazoos. Instead of screaming, he would just sit and rip away through the whole ride--three minutes of TOOOOOOOOT TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT TOOOOOOOOOT. I don't even know how he managed to get it on the ride each time, but he did.

About the fourth or fifth time on Maggi, we had enough. On that final run by the station, somebody snatched it out of his hands and flung it as hard as they could. From my seat near the back of the train, I could only hear somebody scream "Hey!" and then watch the danged thing come sailing over the train and down to the ground...

I think we found it on the pathway to Soak City. Actually I didn't find it first--but if I had, I would have stomped it just like whoever beat me to it.

To this day, I refuse to buy CBaby or the 'Midget any such tool of evil.

Cplaya, you are hillarious dude!!

Anyway my favorite part of Maggie has to be the first drop, quickly followed by the drops in the tunnels on the return run (I simply love tunnels).

I like it at night on a weekday when everybody has either left or is in line for The Force. Running out of the exit of Magnum all the way up to an empty station where the back seat waits for me. I have had sooooo many rides back there at night. Getting whipped down that hill is soooooo AMAZING. CoasterPlaya does rule. IMO I think KoasterKing worked himself into a bind and he is trying to get out of it. Oh Well, enough of that crap, let's keep on talking aboot MAGNUM XL-200.

Magnum is the ride that got me totally addicted to coasters. Before visiting CP, I had visited Great Escape, Riverside, Hoffman's Playland, Six Flags Great Adventure, and BGW. Since then, I have hit PKD, SFNE, SFDL, Hershey, and Knoebels. In 1998, I made my first trip to CP and hit just about every coaster there - and then came Magnum at around dinner time on my first day in the par. My parents chickened out (and Mantis too), but me and my sister were looking forward to our first hyper. I was blown away. I knew as I was getting ejected out of my seat on the return run that I had a new obsession. I am obsessed with coasters in general, but more than anything, I'm over 500 miles away and I'm obsessed with CP and Magnum. So obsessed in fact, that I'm working there this summer on what else? Magnum! :) Welcome to Magnum XL-200: the first coaster to top 200 feet and still number 1 twelve years running! :)

I love the Magnum. I rode it for the first time in five years last May and I had an unbelievable ride. I rode it again in July and it was a lot rougher. It still was great though. It will always be one of my top steel coasters. The climb up the lift hill is the best of any coaster I have been on. The view is amazing.
That signature is awesome Ravenguy98, I'm gonna change mine to something similar. Maybe then I won't get the kind of responses I get too often now. :)

My favorite part about Magnum is the first drop as well as it's pretty cool-looking pretzel return. My next fave part would be the tunnels and bunny hops especially with the fog.

As I said before punk. I'm too smart for others to understand what I'm talking about. ;) Why would I give a flying duck what everyone else thinks who don't even know me if I'm trying to get out of a bind? Hmmm. Pretty stupid if I cared that much don't you think?

And if anyone can find where I said CP or Magnum were a bad park or coaster, I'll risk my Buzz statis for it. I know I never said that because I like both of them. People get really pissed if you say anything about this park or coaster unless you're madly in love with it and want to give it sexual favors, so I'll just stop talking about them, because obviously I'm not that obsessed with them.

But it's a park and a coaster. A very good park and coaster. So I'm more than happy to go every time. At least I know what to expect and know never to expect the best out of anything or you're bound to come back disappointed.

And if no one agrees with your opinions, they can stick it up their...coaster seat! :)

Cool! Too bad working as a rideop doesn't pay enough to cover my mortgage, two car notes and daycare--'cause if it did.....

Are you staying in CP housing? Have you shared any of the Maggi love thread with the crew? Feel free to share the 'meat and potatoes' post with your comrades.

Thanks for the props. I guess I should explain that I don't say much about Maggi's first drop 'cause that's the only part of Magnum and WT that are similar. I like it, but I don't have to travel 680 miles for it. So for me, the other 4000+ feet of track stand out.

-CPlaya
Does anyone think it would be more fun if Magnum had open-sided trains more like MFs? The trains are a lot bulkier than most coasters I've been on and I think that takes away from the experience. I hope everyone that goes this weekend has tons of fun. Too bad I can't get there until Saturday. :(

A couple of you need to turn off the Trinitron and get some sun on that pasty skin (that is of course, unless one of you are African-American).

I don't give two chalupas what your opinions are, because if you start silly name calling and "if you read my post" comments, I'm not having it.

Loosen that iron grip on the mouse and go play nice outside. I'll call when dinner is ready.
