Would you want to be launched backwards?

Arrow did it on their shuttles. Both Mummy coasters do it, albeit at a slower speed. The Intamin Impulse coasters launch on the first few passes thru the station.

I think slower speed is the key on the first two. Momentum I believe is the key on the impulses. The problem with the backward launch is your head snapping forward; if you're already going that direction from the backward fall off the front spike, acceleration isn't going to really cause any kind of painful situation (obviously)

Heh, that fake article is funny, pretty well written but it reads like an enthusiasts wet dream. Besides, if it was a real news print scan it wouldn't look that clean.

One thing that has struck me during this entire process is why is Cedar Point constructing this ride so early? I would have to think either, the construction zone that we see right now is nothing more than only a fraction of the entire zone, perhaps they will get rid of the antique cars towards the back of the park, and see no use in doing it until the season is over. More likely, i think there might be something with this coaster that is new, at least to Intamin. TTD really hurt CP its first year, and it still hasnt recovered-perhpas the park just sees a need to get the ride built, as to have more time to test the ride.

Actually when they built TTD they started construction about the same time as now....Maybe the site is just more difficult to work with.

I think the steeplechase sounds like a great idea only a compacity nightmare.

The 4d idea is great and if it's huge a great marketing strategy as the tallest, fastest, and longest 4D.

I really think it's an inversion monster though.

I have to agree with the inversion monster theory. Although this may be taking the hint a bit too literally, "Going in a whole new direction" might just imply that this is going to be the first, or I know at least among the first, Intamin chain-lift sitdown loopers in the USA. Personally, I'd love a traditional steel twister experience from a different viewpoint than a four-across Lexus on rails, so to speak. If nobody has figured it out from my signature yet, I think a revival is in order for the "oldschool" sitdown 2x2 (another hint from the signs?) looper trains, even if it is another Swiss manufacturing giant that's taking the reigns again.

I dont know about a chain lift. There are track pieces that are on the site that look like they hold the lims, It could be for brakes too but I am pretty sure they hold lsms/lims.

Moosh - yea, I know you knew slow speed, I was just using that to set up my second point ;) I give you more credit than that!

majortom, are you referring to the piece with the semi-solid "top" to it? If this was a rocket, it would be an extra tall, wide-open box beam. I have no idea what that piece is for, but the location of the holes in the plates screams brake run to me ...

I think they're getting an early start on this at least partially because the site is pretty much perfect for construction. They've got the perimeter road right there for moving stuff in and out, and they don't have to shut down or interfere with any paths or such. I'd imagine their general strategy is to get things built as soon as their regular park operations will allow, as you never know what kind of a nasty winter (and early spring) northern Ohio could throw at you to cause problems.

I have no idea what the deal is with those funky pieces of track...might have to get a look at them with my own two.

I REALLY hope it's a mega-looper, though. Colossus looks so awsome!

Colossus is fun, but not the most exciting ride out there. It WOULD be a good addition for Cedar Point, though.

I would pray Cedar Point didn't get an inversion coaster similar to Colossus. The inversions seem way to repetitive and boring. Now if they actually used some brains and got unique and creative with the inversions, I would say bring it on CP. But I don't think it really matters since I believe this is gonna be something more interesting than a regular "every park has one" roller coaster.

Because so many U.S. parks have big Intamin loopers...
