Gonch,

By CB's own rules, shouldn't this thread be closed already?

It is in fact a thread about peoples List of certain types of coasters, and from what I've read recently in another thread, this isn't allowed.

I agree. Why is it that some threads, while clearly against the TOS (ahem...) remain open while some others are shut down by the time the second post comes around? Both were equally breaking the rules. *** Edited 4/20/2006 6:41:51 AM UTC by a_hoffman50***

It's less annoying than users playing moderator.

There's lots of interesting conversation and insight as to people's experience with some of these rides and in some cases good info on how or why certain rides operate as they do.

It's not like everyone's giving one word or numbered list responses (well, with an exception or two)

I guess what I'm saying is "Don't deliberately push the boundaries and then complain that the boundaries are being pushed." :)

EDIT - WTF is this? Challenege Gonch on the night shift Thursday?

I might also add, that I'm only one of several mods. Someone may very well come along and close things up. It's happened before. I tend to be rather lenient in what slides, especially when there is some useful info being exchanged.

I would just like to point out that in this thread: http://www.coasterbuzz.com/forum.aspx?mode=thread&TopicID=44328&page=2
I said something very similar to your response about interesting conversation, yet it was still closed.
I am not trying to play moderator or push buttons, just stating facts.

EDIT - I know that you are one of several mods, and sorry you just caught me on a bad night. *** Edited 4/20/2006 6:52:35 AM UTC by a_hoffman50***

It ain't just you and Gonch. I'm not a fan of Nyquil The Ride either.

It must be a chick thing. I would take Nitro over most coasters.

I love the heavenly, gasmic airtime. I LOVE being sedated than having the crap beat out of me. ;-)

Roar at SFA for all the work they did over the winter teal train starts pounding you after the second hill. It fells worse than last year at least then it was only the tunnel to the breaks.

I think that the issues with Roar would be solved with Millenium Flyer trains. This is in no way a knock on the PTC trains, I just don't believe that they have the necessary flexibility to handle Roar.

Worst rides for me:

Flight of Fear at PKI pre-restraint change. OUCH!

Hurler at Carowinds two years ago - Had to replace some fillings.

On some of the "infamously rough" rides, I've had a decent experience. Last summer, I actually enjoyed and found airtime on Rolling Thunder. I remember Hercules as fun, abet a little sluggish, but not overly rough. I'm a fan of Great American Scream Machine, and Mantis is a good friend of mine.

I'm not sure if SFMW and SFA's Roar are the same design, but with the M.F. trains, the Marine World ride was great three years ago. And while Nitro is no Superman Ride of Steel at SFNE, it's a damn fun ride. *** Edited 4/20/2006 3:59:56 PM UTC by Willh51***

Both Roars are the same. It would be interseting to ride both in the same week, to get a real good camparison between the way they ride, with 2 different rolling stock.

If you ask the guys at GCII, Roar West is taller, faster, and designed to be a more intense ride....and it has c-punk's trains... ;)

edit: No GCII coaster should have come up in this thread in the first place, LOL...

I don't remember Fear Of Flight at Kings Island very much, I might have been knocked out or it was way to dark.

I'm in a toss up for these.

The now defunct and rusting Shock Wave from SFGAM holds the number one spot. God that thing had me ACHING every damned time. >_< Ugh.

But not far behind has to be Mean Streak. I'd explain WHY it's so uncomfortable for me specifically but I'll leave it at that ;)

Mantis. I got so beat up by it the last time, I vowed i would only ride it with people who haven't. The ride-ops piss me off on Mantis because I never have my feet planted on the floor, and that brake on the base of the first drop doesn't help much either.

I know I will get some flack but Ghostrider at Knott's was the worst. I felt like I needed to go to a chiropractor after that.

Floorless Fan said:As for Manhattan Express, never have rode it, don't think I ever will...never have heard a good thing about yet...other than the heartline spin/roll. I remember they used it on a couple of episodes of CSI years ago. Then the next time I saw a coaster on the show, they used "Speed"...me thinks maybe it was killing them as well? *** Edited 4/19/2006 12:08:39 AM UTC by Floorless Fan*** *** Edited 4/20/2006 1:22:59 AM UTC by Floorless Fan***

I saw a CSI Vegas episode last night on Spike and they used a portable Galaxy as the themed death machine. It looked like it was with a traveling fair with a few carnival rides that were meant to be a small amusement park in the show.

The scene where the cars derailed was so hokey. It was so overly digitalized that I just rolled my eyes.

In the last scene, the characters mentioned some of their favorite coasters: Desperato, Kennywood Phantom, and Son of Beast. I also laughed when SOB was highly praised because of all the horrible reports I have heard about it.

^Thanks Gonch. I have never heard of that until you mentioned it. Is this town near LA or in the burbs of the LA area? For some reason, I had the impression that this park was supposed to be in Vegas. Just shows you how much I was paying attention. I did change the channel a lot. LOL!
