Intamin & CP

Am I correct in assuming that Intamin had a several coaster contract with CP? Or is that false? If true, what was the terms of it (i.e., how many coasters)? I remember hearing some time ago that it was a 4 coaster deal...And TTD makes four. Does that mean that we'll be seeing a different company come in in the coming years? I personally would love to see an ThrustAir come to the park, or at least a new B&M...Of course a new woodie would be outstanding...

Not sure on the Intamin contract thing, but I agree that either a B&M (Flyer w/original layout, please) or a rideable woodie (GCI, anyone?) would be killer here. I don't think we'll be seeing a ThrustAir or any Arrow coaster any time soon, considering the nature of TTD's existence, not to mention the recent contention between CF and S&S.

Dare we dream that B&M will actually build their own 4D? We can hope, but I wouldn't hope for it at CP just yet - the Point doesn't like unproven coaster types. Yes, MF was a wonder with its cable lift, insane height, and eye-popping drop, but it was basically modified hyper-coaster. A 4D definitely sits outside the box of "proven" technology.

How does Dragster make the fourth in the contract with CP? Millie, Twister, Dragster...what am I missing?

There wasn't anymore of a multi-ride contract with them then there was B&M. Just another stupid rumor.

Let me ask this question then...How do parks go about purchasing coasters? They obviously sit down with a company and hash out a deal. But can they purchase more than one?

If you're going back that far then you also need to count Jr. Gemini. CP has five Intamin coasters.

5 Intamins, 5 Arrows, 2 Beemers, 1 PTC, 1 Scwarzkopf, The best Vekoma I have ever rode ;), a Summers and Dinn Monstrosity................

Well after reading that interview with that CP pr guy over on sixflagsnews.com it does seem like Cedar Fair had some sort of multicoaster contract with Intamin. Supposidly right after MF was built they talked with Intamin about breaking the 400ft barrier. In the meantime Wicked Twister was built as a filler attraction (and lets not forget they put some of the footers in for TTD when they were doing WT's construction). Also Xcel was built in this time frame to see how the hydraulic launch concept would work, and it doesn't appear they learned much from it. But anyways it seems completely logical that there was a contract with Intamin for multiple coasters, heck there still could be some more left.

Yeah, they talked with them right after. That doesn't mean they sat down circa 1998 and said, "We wanna buy three rides from you. Not sure what they are, how reliable they'll be, or if you'll be good to work with, but let's give it a shot! Write the contract!" If they did something like that, I think most of us unit holders would be demanding Dick Kinzel's resignation!

Whaaaaat? They knew what the rides would be; a larger newer version impulse to differentiate it from the one down the road, a new concept record breaking launch coaster, and a smaller prototype version that they could hopefully work the kinks out of before CP opened their version. Whats so astonishing about that Jeff? You mean to tell me there was no multi coaster deal when they added footers for TTD during WT's construction?

I would think that they wouldn't have multi-coaster contracts, but instead have contracts for each individual ride.

I 've never heard of CP pouring footers for TTD during Wicked Twisters construction , where were the footers poured?

Over on the island so that when they extend TTD, the footers will already be there.

Who lied to me about what? What the hell are you talking about?

My point stands (as Corey mentioned): You don't sign a 3-ride contract with a vendor when you don't know how they'll perform for even the first contract. You sign one for each ride.
