Why is Coasterbuzz advertising Porn?

http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/15465.html
That costs $80 but I'm sure that increased ad revenue would pay for itself in two months.

Well, I hate popups. With a passion. But, Jeff, I kinda understand the whole "starving webmaster" thing. You almost lose as much money each month as my new bass guitar stuff cost. I used to use Mozilla's Popup Blocker (Absolutely Wonderful), but I've turned it off for CBuzz.... and I'll be glad to help keep them on after I get the membership I'm saving for. CBuzz has given the kind of community that I like, but not just for RCT, but for general Coaster Mania as well, and I'd like like to thank you for it.

Anyway, banners rule, popups/unders drool.

90% of members have never made a post?

That doesn't sound right. How is that possible?

The percentage of people who participate in any forum on any site is small. There are more than 8,000 registrations on this site, though I haven't confirmed how many are still live (will check when I launch the next version of the site). Heck, of those, there are about 5,000 that are live, because they got the last newsletter and it didn't bounce back. Obviously only a small percentage of them ever post.

In fact, every time I do a batch of membership cards, I can't help but notice how few of them are familiar. Of the 15 queued for printing right now, I recognize five of them.

I don't do any kind of data harvesting, but one thing that is clear to me is that the people who pony up to join the club use the site the least. Ironic, eh?

I have a pop-up blocker AND PROUD OF IT. They are annoying and this site is one of the WORST for them (regardless of what Jeff says), so I don't really care what you call it Jeff. You can call me a theif but I surf without the pop-ups coming up everytime I go from page to page (like this website).

I am not a thief. I briefly installed Opera to replace IE, turned on the pop-up blocker, decided against it, and have dealt with the ads ever since. Until, that is, I found out about the financial problems and chipped in. Besides, I get in to the CoasterBuzzCon for less and I get a card to prove I'm a geek. What could be better than that?

A failure in society is a failure of society.

to those of you that are telling Jeff how proud you are of your popup blockers, i say get a life, build a bridge, and move on. your comments have been nothing short of immature, and it aggravates me that you can be so arrogant. I sit here quite perplexed that you idiots are complaining about pop ups....people, they take ONE SECOND to delete!! how lazy are you? now, I am a PROUD Cbuzz member (Jeff, im renewing soon, i swear:)), but before that i was on this site for well over a year, and i have to say, the pop ups were not annoying at all. they are definitely not the reason i joined the club either. im even daring enough to say that even as a club member, i wouldnt mind having to deal with a few extra seconds of my time...after all, time is all i have:) (that one was free)

those of you who are complaining...that attitude translates into you thinking that life is handed to you, and i would have no quams at saying that you are probably spoiled in some way or another. for goodness sake, take about one second, delete the pop up ad, or heaven forbid, check it out for a second or two, and show some appreciation for what Jeff does for this site. I know he can be short and impatient at times, but he puts hours and lots of money into the daily upkeep of Coasterbuzz, and i can personally say without any reserve that i am incredibly thankful for this site. dude, ive made some of my best friends, friends that ill have for life, because of this site.

if you are selfish and freaking lazy enough to tell Jeff how "proud" you are that you can block the ads, then how it would be no problem if this site went off the air, then i say to you, GET THE HECK OFF THE SITE! because i, for one, and probably speaking for many others, could care less what else you have to say...we love this site, and are thankful for it, and do not mind helping out Jeff in anyway we can. get off the site, go whine somewhere else, and save Jeff some money so he can upkeep the site for those of us to whom this site is important to!

Tim...sorry for going off, but people just piss me off sometimes

Wow. It's really frightening to me how many people have no respect for the amount of work Jeff has put into this site and are proud of being disrespectful on top of that?

Pop-up blockers arent disrespectful. They are one of the best inventions for internet surfing in a long time. Oh by the way, I am not crying about the pop-up ads b/c to be honest...I don't see them anymore.

Oh, and if pop-up blockers were really considered stealing, then why are they LEGALLY allowed to be sold in stores?

Dude, if you think this site is bad for pop-ups, you obviously don't surf the internet much. When I come here, I get one, maybe 2 at the most, while there are sites that constantly bombard you with ads to the point where you can't even navigate the page you are trying to visit in the first place.

Oh by the way, I am not crying about the pop-up ads b/c to be honest...I don't see them anymore.

Honestly, bragging about the fact that you're running a blocker? It's not like they aren't readily available for anyone to download if they want one. I'm not running one mostly because I just don't feel like going out of my way to download one, but after reading this thread I'm kinda glad I haven't. Like Andy said, you're being disrespectful. Not necessarily by running a blocker, but with your attitude towards someone who is LOSING $700 a month running this site for your entertainment and mine. Go do something you can really be proud of and quit bragging about running pop-up blockers...

What amazes me is that people can watch ten minutes of commercials during a 30-minute TV Show and up to twenty minutes of previews before a movie, but they can't take a second to close a pop-up window.

I can understand the annoyance when you are getting 4-5 pop-ups per page, such as the advertising found on porno sites, but on here you are served a maximum of ONE per page.

Also, realize that you probably spend several minutes reading each topic or news item discussion, yet it only takes one second to close a pop-up ad. Do you really consider that an annoyance?

I think (and I can't be the only one) that it is awfully obnoxious for these people to reply to this topic just to brag that they use a pop-up blocker. If I were Jeff, I'd ban all that did that on the spot. Its not like you are helping to pay for the site anyway.

I have never used a pop-up blocker, and I never plan to. Jeff is doing this whole community a big favor by keeping this site up and running. It's more work than I would ever want to take on for something that I have to pay for every month!

In conclusion, its not right to use the pop up blockers, but its just plain rude to brag about it.

Yeah, okay, thanks for making me look like I have the IQ of a frog with that last statement (SF) Great American.

My point was not to make you look like you have the IQ of a frog, but to show that you merely made a mistake that made it look like you do (somethign we all do). However, I see that you don't really understand the nature of your mistake: Jeff stated why blocking pop-ups is stealing long before he gave you that "nothing free" speech. It wasn't directed at you, because you hadn't even posted yet. Perhaps, in order to prevent another mistake like this, you should try reading everything in a thread before you post.

You're damn straight it's disrespectful. It's like inviting you to my restaurant, where you dine-n-dash then FedEx me a bag of dog crap just to spite me.

Screw 'em. Make the site pay to play-if the kids don't like it, they can go play somewhere else.

I agree with Mark. It's the people who wouldn't pay that are probably the ones who make the most useless noise. Two problems solved at once.

While that may sound like a *sound idea* initially Mark, I don't think I'd have come aboard in the first place had there been such a *barrier* to signing up. I know it may seem silly, but I basically drifted in from URC and found a home....signed up for the club later. Already in ACE, the "membership" wasn't all that attractive, and the ads didn't bother me that much. I just think that it may prevent good people from checking out the site in the first place to have a *pay before you pump* philosophy...although it would keep the drive-offs to a minimum...;)
Gator, I think word-of-mouth about the 'Buzz is fairly substantial. People probably rarely drift in here anymore by accident, at least coaster enthusiasts probably don't. How about restricting forum access to members, but allowing the public access to the rest of the site? That way, you cut down on noise and it lessens the amount of bandwidth being used.

-----------------
http://www.rockandrollconfidential.com

I don't understand at all why anyone, period, would not pay for the site that they use on a daily basis.

Anyone who's been around here or GTTP knows that Jeff and I have had our differences but I know the costs involved in a large site like this and I enjoy it.. so I support it.

I'm sure a few heads turned when I joined CB Club, but I'm a firm believer thatif you like the site.. and it helps the owner.. Pony up a few bucks people.. it's almost my time to renew if I remember correctly.. and I will..

Jeff, I still "pay" for your site anyways, you 20 banner ads per page still make it to my browser...

That isn't CBuzz...it's more likely that rogue code written by the Devil's finger called Gator (aka GAIN). Go back to the first page and read my de-install info.

The ads on CBuzz/GTTP are rather inobtrusive compared to the other crap out there.

Just to clarify, THIS 'gator has nothing whatsoever to do with THAT gator. I had a small moose when Jill installed it on the laptop....what a *PiA* that program is....GAIN, from what I have seen offers very little in the way of *GAINs*, but it has a LOT of drawbacks...YMMV.
