Where do you think Shockwave should go?

Where do I think it should go? Nowhere. If it has to go somewhere, where do I think it should go? I haven't a clue. That thing is a beast that (from all the posts I've seen about it) can only be appreciated by someone who either rode it when it was new, or rode it when they were little. To present that monster as a new attraction at a new park would be a nightmare. Thousands of people would eagerly flock to the park to ride this thing, be hypnotized by it's incredible look, wait hours in line to ride it... and come off with headaches, sore ears, and possibly some skinned elbows (I did that once. I had my right elbow rubbing against the side of the car while going through dead man's turn. Not a good move!). I that would piss a LOT of people off. So where do I think it will go? MeudusaFanatic hit the nail on the head, I think. It will be sent to a parts yard to give management more time to make a decision. But, somehow, that decision will never be made, and Shock Wave will never be seen whole again.

After a bit of reprofiling, how about the Wild side of SFWoA? There was a lot of talk about a new hyper in this area but after the awful year that WoA had, a "new" ride at very little cost would give them something to market.

By the way, if WoA wants to go head-to-head with CP in Northern Ohio, it needs to offer what CP doesn't - and I don't mean bad service, poor capacity and trash covered midways. Stress the Wild side, build some dark rides, offer experiences you can't get at CP - maybe a 7 inversion Arrow mega looper?

Now, I don't think there's a chance in hell that it'll end up at WoA but SF needs to do something there. And soon.

How about they just sell it off to a smaller independant park who might want it, but doesn't quite offer direct competition to the Six Flags Chain?

Such parks include Hershey Park, Waldameer Park, Martin's Fantasy Island, Seabreeze, Knobles, & even Marineland Canada........

...they're for the most part independant and a minor park... and I bet Six Flags wouldn't mind selling it for cheap to one of those parks whom see it fit in their collection!

Why be limited to Six Flags? Nobody ever said it had to stay within the chain!!!

Vertigo, then your neighbors should complain to the township(s) they live in. According to Canobie *and* the surrounding townships, no complaints have been received.

That, to me, is absolutely factual and can be proven. These "complaints" of your neighbors have no weight or bearing if they can't actually complain to the people who matter about the situation.

-Nate (who thinks that, as the article says, it's ridiculous to complain about the Starblaster laser when there's a 200' radio antennae flashing red lights all day and all night)

It'll probably end up where all of SF's retired coasters go,it'll either go to SFAW or more than likely SFGRAM's boneyard.
I say SFA. It'd fit in perfectly there!!
Whenever I think of that park, I think of the BNL song, it's all been done. "It's all been done before!" Greatest lyric ever :)

(sorry for making two posts in a row...)

I don't understand what park would even want Shockwave!

1) Costs to move the ride are going to be high.
2) Why buy a coaster with a terrible rep at a relatively high cost for being 13 years old?
3) Shockwave has an *awful* footprint that would be a poor investment for any small park
4) Arrow megaloopers are a dime a dozen
5) Most small parks go for a famly image, and a gigantic torture machine just doesn't fit. Most large parks purchase large (but more expensive), high-quality rides. Shockwave is neither.

If BGW couldn't sell Drachen Fire, why would any park buy Shockwave?

You made a lot of good points. I'm beginning to feel really confident about the "chopping block" theory referring to ShockWave's future. That's two Arrow multi-elements down the drain. But who cares, seriously. It was the worst of the three Six Flags "mega loopers" (as everyone likes to call them).

at the moment, a 13 year old coaster in that shape won't be goin to any decent park w/o some work.

Hey it's 14 years old, like me. I debuted on June 3rd, 1988 and so did Shockwave.

RIP Shockwave

I'm pretty sure Hershey can afford their own brand new rides.

Top 5 Wood #1 Viper #2 Thunderbolt #3 Timberwolf #4 Outlaw #5 Screaming Eagle

Those above mentioned independents do not have the resources to move and maintain that class of a coaster. Hersheypark will only buy new stuff anyway.

Bet on these possibilities:

1. SF WofAd. which was already mentioned.

2. Jazzland. which was already mentioned.

3. SF Mexico. just makes sense in our circles.

4. SF Fiesta Texas. trading the Joker out is a positive scenario.

5. There is still a viable world market for used US rides. They will keep it in the company no matter what.

SF Mexico has no room.. I have no clue where they are gonna put there new hyper they are building, that park is so compact. My opinion would be to move it as far away from here in its current condition. Sure it is a pretty site from far away & yes i did ride it when i was there.. but that was just 'cuz i could walk right on that beast any time of day.

If they took off the OTSH's and redid the climb into the mid-breaks, it might be rideable again

If they used a shoehorn, Im sure they could get it to fit at SFKK. Many of the coasters are intense and rough there anyway... "Cough.... T2.... Cough"
How about Six Flags Astroworld? Wouldnt they be intersted in Shockwave?

SFOG NEEDS to get rid of the POS we call Ninja. I'll galdly trade an Arrow megaloopers for the POS Vekoma megalooper we have now.

Remove Ninja and SFOG has the space, plus shockwave over a lake who could ask for more?

Send Ninja in it's about to rattle itslef to pecies, state to SFAW, at least when the brake station does it's 40-0 stop in 2 seconds (which sakes the entire ride), it won't do it over a lake, where people could not only die from impact, they can also sufercate.

hmmm, haven't heard much about THAT idea, a SF park outside N. America....it *seems* that the maintenance and "fix-ups" might me a more reasonable expectation. I thought the SFM hyper was more of a *done-deal* for them to look at two coasters though. Has that concept fallen THAT far?

No, they wouldn't. The primary reason Texas Tornado hasn't run these past two years is because the park didn't want its guests to get their heads all banged up. Now extrapolate how Shockwave would seem attractive?

And all of you people suggesting Astroworld and Kentucky Kingdom - HAVE YOU EVEN BEEN TO THESE PARKS? Do you have any conceptual clue that these are small fenced in properties with very little expansion room and Shockwave is a big monster of a ride?

To defend my previous statement: I stongly believe if properly done, it could fit into SFKK
I have racked my brain and I cannot think of a good fit for this coaster.
As mentioned SFAW probably doesn't have the room for this coaster.
I do not see why SFFT would want to put an Arrow 7-looper that close to one of the most wonderful B&M floorless loopers ever created.
Most of the other parks in need of rides have limited room.
I've never been to SFDL, what do they have in terms of room for expansion.
DawgByte II's avatar

SFDL could use a new coaster, and they have soo much room, they could put an entire PGA Pro 18-Hole pro golf course there with lots of room to expand....

...but the fact is, SFDL already has Viper, a 1982 Arrow 5-looper with an original layout... so it wouldn't fit the park to have 2 Arrow loopers when they are pretty much similar, and the attention would be drawn even more away from Viper than it currently is now!
