Well The Rumormill is that there's going to be a CCI Out and back for the boardwalk project . I'm Also I'm hoping for a LARGE B&M MULTI LOOPER, Something that will go around the park. something that will weave in-between some of the other rides
I think CP helps put coaster companies on the map. Now, I don't know the facts for sure, but I don't remember seeing too many B&M's out there before Raptor and Mantis. Currently there aren't very many Intamin coasters. Other rides yes, but coasters, no. I realize no contract exists, but I think one way of looking at it is this. CP is innovative because they seem to get the ball rolling on these companies. Yes, they don't put in new designs, but they do have fairly unknown companies build record breaking rides, which really brings these companies into the light. I think they have had mutually beneficial relationships with Arrow, B&M, and Intamin. Why would CP sign a contract with a company that they aren't sure if they will be COMPLETELY satisfied with the product. If you bought a Ford Mustang, would you want to be tied into a contract saying you had to buy an Explorer for your SUV? You may like the Explorer, and you may actually buy one, but wouldn't you rather have the choice of not buying it if you feel it's not what you want?

UCsigep: If ANY company puts coaster companies on the map it HAS to be SFI/Premier. I mean the first Beemer popped up @ SFGAm, same with the first invert (same park even). The Intamin hypercoaster debuted at SFDL.
In my opinion, Cedar Point has not done ONE THING innovative. They have yet to take a chance on any new concepts (unless you want to count enclosing Avalanche Run...). All they have done is taken a proven concept and "Super-Sized" it. It is my job (as a Patent Examiner) to determine when someone has created something "novel" or "inventive" and, in my professional opinion, "super-sizing" does not meet the requirements.
Not that I dont like CP (it *IS* one of my favorite parks), but they have *NOT* been innovative.
BTW: UC, where does your sig come from? I have the feeling I should know (It seems like I saw a movie with that line). And it has been eating at me for days.

-You know what I'm thinking about now?!?!
Dawg Byte is correct, Cedar Point went to several companies to get an estimate on what a coaster of this magnitude would cost. In the end, I believe Cedar Point made the best choice in choosing Intamin. Their track is sleek and impressive to look at, not to mention the smoothness.
As for 2Hostyl, that line is from Road Trip. I thought it was one of the funniest lines in the whole movie!

I see what you're saying, I just mean that they didn't really become popular until after CP built 'em. But I do see where you're coming from. Excellent point.

Jeff, give us a hint what CP is getting.
No Hints...We Must Wait Until The Official Announcement...

I Want A TA2K, But Think It Will Be A CCI Woodie, I Also Do Not Believe In The "Boardwalk Project"
Hey Jeff, this might be a good topic for your next poll... You know, what would you like to see next at CP? And then give choices that have been most talked about here, like CCI, B&M Flyer, Arrow 4D, S&S Thrust, etc.

Hey Jeff, I don't know if you know or not, but do you have any kind of ballpark idea for when the 2002 improvements will be announced?
(I would ask if and what the new ride will be but, "Those who know..." :) )

I don't think Jeff really knows, (but I can't speak for him), even if he did, he could get in deep water with the park and most likely lose Guide To The Point.
I am more interested to know when the press release is to come out... September? October?
OH!!!! *whines* come on!!!! I'm DYING!!! I need a hint, just a little hint? Pleeeeease? Jeff, we're all good people, you're good people. We just need one little hint! heh

I would like for Cedar Point to build a CCI woodie. Even though I personally like CP's woodies (Blue Streak: my first real coaster and Mean Streak: the only BIG wooden coaster I've been on), I agree that Cedar Point is lacking in the wooden coaster department. A nice sized CCI would be under 4 million, and after that they would have some extra money for a couple of flat rides. I personally don't expect anything huge or record-breaking in 2002, but I do see CP carrying on the "large investment every 2 years" plan they've had going for a while. I read in another post the other day that Power Tower cost around 10 million or so; I would consider that a fairly sizeable investment. I would be really happy if they got a CCI!
But I wouldn't be upset if they worked on the proposed Boardwalk project/landscaping. After all, I am one of those people who like the the entire experience of a park, not just the rides.

I would consider both The Beast and Gwazi BIG wooden rollercoasters. (They are in your track record)

Whoops, forgot about the Beast, but I consider a big coaster as around 150 feet high. I guess I would also refrase that by saying Mean Streak was the first one of the two (IMO) BIG coasters I've been on.

Don't be suprised if CP gets nothing for 2002. MF was a pretty huge spend, and CF does have other parks that they may want to improve on. Jeff said that capacity was an issue. Nobody has said anything about the new Arrow 64 person super train. I imagine this thing could defintely be in the works. Whether it will be launched, I don't know, but it could certainly happen. A CCI would be sweet, but it doesn't seem right for some reason. Whatever it is it will be awesome until it comes, we'll just have to live with the 14 great coasters at CP.
BTW, CP not innovative? I beg to differ. They may be supersized, but Magnum and MF were both the first of a kind, and launched new breeds of coasters, or will launch a new breed of coasters!

Coasters- a little slice of heaven
I LMAO every time anyone calls a number(in this case height) innovative. Is The Beast innovative for being the longest(wooden) coaster in the US(the World)? Innovative would be making the first-of-a-kind and great new idea such as the flying coaster, spinning wild mouse, TA2k, and 4D of the recent types. And it wouldn't be CP being innovative anyway. It would be the company that designed the ride/coaster. And Batman The Ride made B&M what they are today. CP needed capacity so they looked to B&M and got Raptor. They knew about capacity with Iron Wolf too, so they finally got a stand-up, again to fit capacity. Magnum and MF are super-sized not innovative.

And I LOVE CP, so Get Up Out of My Azz About It! :)
Everyone is right about Cedar Point "Super Sizing" their coasters, but at the same time saying it is not innovative is wrong as well. When they installed Magnum that started a whole new trend in parks having to have the bragging rights to say that they have the tallest & fastest coaster. Where would we had they not started "supersizing their coasters?" Innovation is not necessarily a patent. Cedar Point shopped around for a designer and Arrow built them what they wanted. People came and rode. Almost every major park in the country now has a hyper coaster. Now they had Intamin Design and build Millenium Force. What do you think will happen now? I believe that super-sizing a coaster is an innovation. If it wasn't for Cedar Point taking the risk to build some extreme rides we wouldn't be where we are today.
In all honesty, I really don't care what Cedar Point comes out with next. Whether a Thrust Air 2000 or a Hyper Woodie. Fancy names don't thrill me. It's what EXISTS there now that does. Yes, I agree, the more coasters to ride, the better. However, don't you think there should be time in between for anticipation of the next big thing? Enjoy what Cedar Point has now, not what it doesn't.

Need I say it,
But absolutely NO paramount park has a hyper-coaster (
SOB is wooden & Hypersonic is a whole different coaster).
Six Flags Worlds of Adventure & Universal Studios Islands of Adventure doesn't have a hyper either.
These are among the biggest parks in the country...
So just as a minor correction, not even close to every major park in the country has a hyper!
