Tears for Fears or PKI

Has anyone seen that new VH-1 show where people get in a car and they are secretly being videotaped singing? The other day a lady was singing Devo's Whip It and at the end of the song, she was like "what the heck does that mean"

I was on the floor, I couldn't believe she didn't know what that song meant

Funny, I didn't see that... I saw a bunch of people talking about new wave music. (Which hasn't happend in about 3 years since john peck and I hijacked some other thread.)

Erasure's still together, but their music IMO gets progressively worse with every CD. For some reason, I still buy them all, but if it's between Love Boat and The Circus, The Circus wins every time.

The Pet Shop Boys, conversely, seem to keep getting better with age. Unfotunately, no one buys their CDs anymore.

The Cure, on the other hand, were always great, then they put out two real stinkers, but their last album was amazing. (Bastards didn't come to Pittsburgh with Interpol, though... and I hadn't missed a Cure show since Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me.)

Last time I saw Duran Duran, and unknown Irish band called The Cranberries opened up. I liked them better. DD did a bunch of new crap and a "montage" of their hits.

I think it's unanimous, John, go see Tears for Fears. I'm pretty sure PKI isn't gonna break up and not come back next year!

(Edited to include Duran Duran.)

When was Erasure ever good?

Saw The Cure around the year Gund Arena opened in Cleveland, seats ten rows up the side from the stage. Played for three hours. Robert Smith is too old for the hair and makeup, but what a show. *** Edited 11/3/2004 11:01:13 PM UTC by Jeff***

Rentzy, you were being born around the time Tears for Fears was in their heydey.

A lot of people thought Erasure was good in the late 80s/early 90s.

Oh, thanks, Moosh! Edit your post so I look like the ass! ;)

Hi

OK, not that he needs it, but I'm gonna stick up for Jeff here. ;) I don't think he set out to insult anyone's musical taste. We all talk like that all the time about stuff we don't like though others do, but as soon as a ;) is absent people get pissy. And I know you're being gentle Mooshie, I saw the ;) , but there's enough people who read this board and would see your comment and see it as evidence to their "Jeff is an a*shole" arguments.

And I've never bought a Clay Aiken CD, but I'm guilty of liking his singles and generally finding him adorable. Say what you will, I can take it.

I'll clean up my previous post so it doesn't come off as that way, Dawn. Thanks ;)

Wanna join my "I don't think Jeff is so bad" fanclub? ;)

I've never thought Jeff was "bad." Heck, I defend him on RRC!
You can be president then! :)

No need to defend me on RRC. Anyone that bent out of shape for God knows what anymore is not someone I'd wanna have hanging out here anyway.

I don't know what you wrote, 'Moosh, but I just never got Erasure. Never cared much for Morissey's solo stuff either. Yeah, we get it, he's lonely and no one loves him. :)

My TFF phase was during the Seeds of Love tour. It was all about the memory of hearing Shout on the radio (one of the reasons I suppose I lived out my teenage dream of working in radio), and then the great textures created by "their" sound along with the mix of genres they had on that album. Good times.

Now if I could just explain my Jesus Jones phase...

Jesus Jones? Oh man, I take it back. You suck. ;)

And I guess I will sing then............

"Hey now hey now....don't dream it's over......"

I know, not Jesus Jones but I am hearing Crowded House on the radio right now.

I think I sorta liked Jesus Jones, next to the Spin Doctors. Now we are in the early 90's? :-D

I for one sort of liked Jesus Jones.

Erasure was one of my favs, but I got way out of them after 1992's "I say I say I say" which was probally their best album IMO bt there newer stuff got better

Iv'e always been a fan of the New Wave movement...
Smiths, Cure... DM, New Order, PSB's
and to the early 90's brit pop...
Suede, Gene, James, Marion...

Nowadays I find myself enjoying Third Eye Blind, Evanescence, and Travis.

I hated the Newer Metallica, and I really haven't been able to get into my new Cure CD.

The new Morrissey is totally out of this world. He's not as "woe as me" this time, he's accepted his life and sings to it. Plus, living in LA for the past 7 years can do somthing to a person

With over 1000 Cd's, I try to keep enough variety.

PS I love coasters

I also dig TFF. When I graduated high school in 1990, the entire class got free TFF tickets to see them perform at the (shortly lived) Capital Music Center.

Michael Penn opened up. I felt bad for TFF as most everyone left as they walked onto the stage. I only was able to see half of the show but I enjoyed it. They opened with one of my favorites, "Head Over Heals."

I was thinking of picking up the new disc to add to my already growing collection of "WTF" discs. I swear, if anyone checked out my MP3 player and saw some of the stuff I had on there, they would start asking questions.

-Sean (who just picked up new discs from Marty AD, King's X, Dream Theater, Eighteen Visions, Jerry Gaskill, Jelly Jam, Lamb of God and would very much love to see the Throwddown, Fear Factory, and LoG show next week but work prevails)

I met and saw Crowded House backstage in '93 on the WOMAD festival, among others (Lenny Kravitz, Peter Gabriel, James, PM Dawn... I was such a radio personality tool in those days). Phenomenal show. Together Alone was a serious unappreciated album.

I'll agree completely with you on the "Together alone" disc, Jeff. Very underappreciated and fantastic.

I was at that WOMAD festival... a friend of mine worked in radio at the time and needed someone to go with her. I forgot Kravitz was there. I primarily went for James, Crowded House and Peter Gabriel. Didn't get in to those African dancers, either.

P.S. I have a Jesus Jones tour shirt.
