But they probably still have the schematics for the loop, and it wouldn't be all that difficult to rebuild it. Bringing back the loop would be a great marketing point for the reopening of this "reimagined classic".

If they turned it into an I-beam steel tracked coaster, changing the layout into an out and back would cost them a lot more than keeping the original basic layout, like they are doing with TG. If they went an out and back redesign, I would think that they would keep the wood track.
Both I-beam track with an out and back layout could happen though, and no matter which direction they decided to go, a loop would still be awesome. :-9

Are there any steel-tracked, wooden-structured coasters that go upside down? That almost sounds catchy enough to market
So lets see, Over a million for Timberliners. Over a million to rebuild loop. Probably five million to retrack with steel or 3 million for steel sleaving on track.
New TGG or GCII coaster 7-10 mill?
Taer it down
Why do you think it would cost an extra million just to rebuild the loop?
I don't think that seven to ten million dollars would build the tallest and fastest wood-steel hybrid coaster "on the planet", could it.
But, on the other hand, I agree. TAER IT DOWN! I've hated SOB practically it's entire life, from a few weeks after it opened, when I had my first ride, to a few weeks before it closed for good, which was when I took my second, and last, ride on it.
SOB might be like Six Flags with me. (Begin analogy) I did Six Flags a long time ago, and they screwed me really bad many times. Even though they are supposedly much better about not screwing people as much as they used to, I still don't like them. (End analogy)

Man, I remember shooting that SOB video. I don't think I've ever hurt so much in my life. I also didn't realize how much footage was actually used.

I still remember Jeff sitting behind you and Sean when you were in 1-3 and telling you guys you were faking the slams at the top of the second hill. He only rode it there twice and I think the second time was a roll thru. LOL
Yeah but we sat there often on purpose, just for that reason. Legendary as they say as in G train legendary
Just out of curiosity, does anyone have any ballpark idea of how much it would indeed cost to dismantle a giant like SOB? For example, how much did it cost to remove Hercules back in 2003 by comparison?
Just curious.
Tell me how to operate heavy equipment and I will do it for free so no one has to exp. the pain I exp. the one time I did ride it (and this was post loop).
^Apparently your fingers are still hurting so bad from that ride that you can't spell out experience. ;)
I call Cedar Point my home park even though I live in the Chicago Suburbs.
The cost depends on how much you have to pay an animal trainer to teach mice, raccoons, and deer to play with matches.
Well, for what it's worth, SFoT is still calling NTG a wood coaster, so KI could still call an Iron Horse SoB with loop "the only looping wood coaster in the world."
Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."
They could also call SoB "the only looping wood coaster in the word that was burned to the ground". :)
Seriously though, I'd rather see SoB receive an I-beam track conversion than it taken down.
