Nice find. That must be a very early paint scheme. Maybe 2000? I can't remember exactly, but I think the trains had the yellow/red scheme by the time I rode in 2001.

When I get a upload card for my computer to upload VHS tapes to my hardrive, this one show that came on the Travel Channel about SOB back in 2000 or 2001, the President of RCCA said "he doesn't think anybody comes off that ride with out a smile, and that they also get there moneys worth" What a joke. lol You can even see in the video how rough the Rose Bowl is.

Brother rode it about 35 times straight back to back once in back seat. His lapbar wouldn't release and instead of closing the ride to wait for mechanics he said let it ride!!!!! I rode it about 12 in a row the first friday of a fear fest once. 22 for the night.
I never had much problem riding towards the back, except for the first row in the back car. That would give you a spinal every now and then. The front just shook to much at the bottom of the rosebowl.
Man, watching that video reminds of all the pain I endured while riding that death contraption twice. Aah, the good ole days.
Surely they're going to have to decide what they're doing with that thing sooner or later. It's not like you can hide it away is it...

If that's the case, then they have to be waiting to see what happens with Texas Giant to see if that is an avenue they want to pursue. I can't see any other reason why you would keep that amount of land occupied for 3+ years with a SBNO ride on it.
I would suggest that that's not the way park management thinks, or ought to think. Any self-respecting park is going to have a plan for future investment, be it 3-year, 5-year, or what have you. And even if they're only going to tear down SOB for some future attraction, it doesn't make a lot of financial sense to front-load into the process the cost of what can only be a very expensive dismantling.
So there's a perfectly good reason why they would keep that amount of land occupied for 3+ years with an SBNO ride on it: they're not ready to do anything with the spot, and it takes hella money to remove a monstrosity like SOB.

Cept the demolition would probably be 7 figures. However the proposed fixes would be too. Steel track or covers (See IAAPA) and or Timberliners
I would have to believe that they are waiting to see how giant does as well, I think if it does well, they will rehab sob and put the loop back in
Aside from being the best element (read: the only good element), the sole purpose of the loop was to bestow upon SoB the distinction of being the only wooden coaster with a vertical loop. If a Texas Giantesque rehab is done, I'm skeptical they'd reinstall the loop since it will no longer be able to claim that distinction.
