SFoG Goliath Construction Update

I was very under whelmed by Phantom's Revenge. It's not that it was a bad ride, it just came up short. I was expecting more from what people had said about it.

Everyone keeps saying the double down gives so much air but I barely got any when I rode.

Really? Where on the train did you ride? I must have rode over 5 times in June with LoriU, and I got flung out of my seat ever single time. And the second drop still gets me, and that hop after the midway turnaround.

I'd venture to say that Phantom's Revenge will never leave my top ten, as long as they keep it in good shape.

As far as agressive, ejector air - I've yet to ride the coaster that tops PR.

...and that list includes S:ROS at SFNE and Magnum.

The only downside to the whole ride is that it's just too short. :)

Right, i was just thinking the same thing. Although, truth be told, with the agressiveness of the air on it, maybe thats a good thing...
I rode four times in a row. The first was in the front seat, the second was in the back seat and the last two times were in the middle.

I'm not saying it was a bad ride. It was certainly fun. I will agree that it was WAY too short. It provided some nice floater air for me but nothing too extreme. Maybe my opinion is the way it is because of the hype surrounding the ride. I just came off disappointed. I expected more.

Another thing is that we only rode in the early morning. Later we tried to ride and it was closed. That morning it was very cold. I'm sure that could have affected the ride.

As far as S:ROS, I would have to disagree LG. To date that ride has given the most extreme ejector air time I've ever experienced on any coaster.

More pics are up!

The lift has begun.

Parts of the track are gray. Will they repaint that? Looks like a mistake!

mOOSH [sorry...couldn't resist]

No mOOSH, didn't I teach you anything at RRR?!?! In the South, primer IS a color!

Track Spotting - This morning on my way to work I spotted Goliath track and supports headed south through Knoxville. : )
Here is another update.

I was passing SFOG this afternoon and I saw part of the lift hill go vertical. I can't believe that pics are already posted. I can't wait till season pass holders day Saturday. That way I can see it up clsoe and personal.

I heard prior to the announcement that the lift would be rather steep and after seeing the pics, it does appear to be fairly steep to me. I could be bias though.... anyone else think it's steep for a hyper?

It's steeper than usual sure, just compare the angle of Goliath's lift with Scorcher's in pic 4 of the link jopish posted.

By some rough calculations, I'm getting that the lift hill is approx. 40 degrees from horizontal, which is without question steeper than the standard lift angle of closer to 26 degrees (2:1 slope).

Josh - in person it does look very steep, much like SheiKra's lift for comparison.

Look at Silver Star's lift hill, I that best represents what it should be like in the end. Interestingly enough, the support collumns on Silver Star are of the same design as the one's on SFOG's Goliath (sort of like a |\ shape), whereas the other lifts all share another design (more of a /\ shape). I wonder if that's a coindidence or not.

But yes in short form it is steeper than most hyper lifts.

After SheiKra they all look shallow, LOL. But I think it's a bit steeper than the earlier B&M hypers....perhaps due to space considerations?

I am looking forward to Spring Fling again. :-) Actually I think I will just MOVE to Georgia, if I come back from Kentucky and/or Indiana. ;-)

<--who says nothing is more blissful than 3 consecutive back seat rides on PR in the cool, clear, October weather at night. :-P

Whoa.

Has anyone been to the Six Flags site lately? They have images of "Goliath". They are of course pictures of Nitro but SF took the time to edit the photos so they had Goliaths color scheme. It's nice!

This one is my favorite:

The rest are on the right side of the page. There are four altogether:

Six Flags always does this. I think it's great, it alows peeps how have no clue, to have some visual / actual representation of what the ride and ride vehicles would look like with real riders berore the current attraction is built. The six Flags park in Canada also has Nitro as the example coaster of their current coaster under construction.
When the Georgia Scorcher was being constructed, they used Chang in Kentucky as the example, I remember that because that was the first time I'd seen a stand up let alone heard about one. *** Edited 11/3/2005 9:28:28 PM UTC by Magicmike***

Six Flags is a Diamond in the rough!
I know they use other "similar" coasters to show their coming attraction. This is the first time I've seen them actually change the color on the coaster and the trains though.
