SFoG Goliath Construction Update

Thanks Jophish....:)

Spring Fling is gonna be awesome....the last two pics on page 3 have me *drooling*...

The "catch-nets" that line both sides of the lift/drop seem to be a bit distracting. Looking off to the side of your seat and not seeing any supports or track is always nice (to me), and it seems like those nets extend far enough to take away that option.

For those of you who know the park, what's underneath this section of the ride that requires so much precaution? And wouldn't this really be more for people throwing objects off, as opposed to anything accidentally dropping out of their pockets (how often does money fall out on a lift, or on a drop)? In which case nets seem to be a waste of effort, as they will not stop anything thrown.

Are there any other rides out there that have this same amount of netting?

Thanks-

SFMM Goliath is the best Goliath, period. It also kills any of the B&M hypers. I do like airtime, but Goliath at SFMM has got the "helix from hell". Im sorry, that just can't be topped. Plus I love all the turns, speed, and the first drop into the tunnel is pretty awsome too. Its just pure +gs. And thats pure awsome. Goliath at SFOG looks pretty tame. The layout looks alright, but it just looks too slow and small. Anyways, if I want Airtime, Im just going to go ride Pheonix.

This is in response to Semi_addicted.

The whole beginning of the ride, from the bottom of the lift to the end of the second drop is over the heads of guests, whether these guests are walking, riding scorcher, or the log flume. The first drop, in particular, drops directly over a midway path in the USA section of the park. So guests will be walking directly under GOLIATH as it drops 170'. The pullout of the first drop goes over the railroad tracks and employee access road, the ascent into the second drop is over the log flume, while the second drop itself sits high above the Scorcher, and lastly the pullout of the second drop is over the road, where cars will constantly be passing by. ANd on the return trip, GOLIATH goes back over that same road, back over scorcher, over another midway path closer to the front gate, over the railroad tracks again, and over the employee access road again before hitting the brakes, which i believe are going to be over the exit of the ride.

This sort of give as idea of the first and second drop, although the bottom of the first drop where it goes over the USA midway is not visible, but you can see the employee access road, log flume, etc.

Holy cow DreamTheater, how did you get a ride on the thing so quickly???

Yeah, the nets are definitely my biggest complaint, that's for sure. But hopefully, they're recessed a little, and won't be in view too much. But even worse than how it seems when you're on it, it's going to kill photos of the ride.

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!
Yea seriously DreamTheater, it may look tame but it may end up being 5x as intense as SFMM Goliath. But of course, it's not like you would ever admit that...

Anyone have any idea if Goliath is sand filled or not?

True, but aside from that and a good first drop, that's all it's got. I found SFMM's Goliath very lackluster- for something that big, it didn't have too many memorable moments. Nitro, on the other hand, is loaded with floating moments- it feels like a much more complete experience.

But that's just my opinion...

New update. First drop complete, second drop complete (except for the part over the road) and the upward climb of the third hill is well underway. Very nice panoramic shots included. This thing is gonna be visible for miles!

Pics here.

I'm not positive, but I'm going to say 'no' considering the other three are not.

The only thing this one has in common with the other three is the name. I doubt this one will be filled with sand, but it's just a hunch, not based on 2 Gio coasters in Texas, California, and an Intamin in Europe.

I like SFoGswim's logic. The "neighbors" (which I guess is the hotels up the street) haven't complained about noise AFAIK, so there's little reason to spend the extra money...

Not that I "know" anything, LOL....

Its looking very good and getting finished up fast. Im going to go opening day to ride this. The wait in line doesnt mean a thing.

I was refering to Batman, Superman, and the Georgia Scorcher: the three other B&M's at SFoG.

Well if you plan on going opening day (March 4) you might be a little disappointed as Goliath isn't scheduled to open til April 1 according to the SF website. Now hopefully that isn't some sick April Fool's joke!

Sorry, my mind was melted by the previous people in the thread that were comparing the other Goliath's for whatever reason.

Carry on, carry on. :)

How can anyone complain about Nitro!!!. It is the main reason to visit SFGADV. Phantom's Revenge and Apollo's Chariot are pretty fine too.
They're all good coasters, for different reasons. I like them all a lot more than a certain hyper coaster in Sandusky... two "hyper" coasters in Sandusky, actually.
