Nitro is fun but "over-engineered" [my term] to lessen the forces and make it more family-friendly.

Apollo's forces are more pronounced, less family-friendly.

This is exactly what I don't get. I think they feel almost exactly the same. I have ridden them both on the same trip, on seperate trips at night and morning and they both feel very similar to me. But thats me.

Both rides kind of roll along, and never feel out of control, or very fast, but both are really fun coasters. I find myself smiling and yelling "wooo hooo" on B&M hyper coasters where on an Intamin I find myself yelling "holy sh!t." Its wierd how on a B&M the train seems to hit a max speed. I notice this on their hypers and Floorless coasters especially.

I loved Titan at SFOT though, if it didn't have that strong mid course and had something else after those downward helices it would be one of the best. Imagine if before the brake run there were four quick bunny hills. There was so much speed left to use at the end of the ride.

Back on topic, Goliath's helix, bunny, hammerhead(?), bunny etc on the return trip looks to be pretty amazing. I hope it delivers like it looks like it could.

So what if I live north north canada, this means it's not very easy to get around. Second of all, you do not deal with the people at the boarder trying to rip your car apart just to go on one trip. The third thing is for you guys not to be so judgemental about rides. It seems to me when you judge rides better then others that you are taking advantage of what you have. You oviously don't respect that these parks are all built right in your own country and in some cases your back yard. How about you try driving hundreds of kilometers (canadian) to the borarder evrytime you are ready for a roller coaster and then pey the money difference as well. 80 rides and counting, that a hell of a lot more then me bud. Don't be so haisty and unapreciative. You guys judge rides all the time saying this ones better then this one and this one is better then that one. Oviously you have been to these rides and parks many times. Only people that have been on rides many times I mean time after time after time judge the ride. The day I judge Suprman ROS all kick myself in the ass for not respecting how close it is to me and how far it could be.
I've ridden Nitro once. It was about 45 degrees and it was complete crap. Granted, I see the ride has potential (I liked Apollo's Chariot and Raging Bull) but I think it tries too hard to be an over-engineered Magnum.

That's what I love about classic Arrow rides. Cut and paste elements, bent wires, and hand-drawn blueprints using templates. What you get is what the designer wanted, not what a physics engine said you should get. Though, I think it would have helped a little had Toomer actually ridden a few of his rides...

I, too, find myself saying "holy ****" on Intamin rides, but I don't think it's for the same reasons. Mine are usually "holy ****, is this thing going to snap somewhere?"

I count three Intamin rides that have had additional supports added after a year of operation- Xcelerator, Wicked Twister, and Dragster. There may be more. I have a hard time believing that Intamin's engineers don't suck and, frankly, Intamin rides scare me because of it.

Um! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

My Dad just had a heart attack about one month ago. I don't think he will be attending any parks any time soon . That was his third heart attack, or they like heart attack victims on rides don't they! *** Edited 10/19/2005 4:50:51 PM UTC by WheelOnSteel*** *** Edited 10/19/2005 4:51:27 PM UTC by WheelOnSteel***

I think they should look at the history of ride design about 10 years ago and take it into play with todays ride designing. This would make many improvments.
No offense Mamoosh. I really do think Goliath will overcome Nitro and Apollo.

Location of ride - Fabulous

Nitro's second hill is alot better than Goliaths thats for sure. I like how the returning half of goliath is just all hills instead of waisted track doing a helix upwards like nitro. Goliath is all hills second half for great air time. I hope the ride powers its speed through the whole ride.

what is goliath?.... all hills and a downward helix... not in the same order but pretty much the same elements???????

Watch the tram car please....
I may be behind the times, but when and where were supports added to TTD? Either I forget, or I missed something *** Edited 10/19/2005 7:49:52 PM UTC by pyrocoasterkid***

SFMM's Goliath? Overtake Nitro and Apollo? I don't think so!

Whoa! WoS.. a little defensive?

Rule #1 of this board is... well, probably grammar, spelling, and proper quoting, but that's not what my post is focusing on...

...an unwritten rule is to try not to take everything personally. Believe it or not, I was "on your side" trying to show you that a low coaster count is not something to be ashamed of, and even those of us in the states may not be the country-travelling explorers you think we are.

Don't automatically think people are attacking you, your country, your lifestyle, your home park, or anything else you hold dear. Because we're not. There may be a little good-natured ribbing every now and then (look out for the tell-tale ;), although be careful because the lack of a wink doesn't mean the person is necessarily serious.. especially someone like me who is *almost* always joking and trying to lighten the tone of a conversation)

That downward helix coming up on the new Goliath looks amazing. Sorry guys, im from Canada and do not get the chances to ride all of these rides accross the United States like you others do. Take it from me, all rides deserve there own good remarkes. If you were in my position, only have been to Cedar point once in my life, SFDL about 4 times and to canadas wonderland about seven times, then you would appreciate all rides no matter what. Seriously though, thats the only parks ive aver been to in my life. Probably pretty sad right. Im going to go to SFGA for the first time in my life next year. Everyone tells me Nitro is the bomb. Im in for it or what. Look at my perspective though in general. I have alot of parks and rides to experiance yet. Ive never ridden a floorless, a Superman Ultimate flight or anything of that matte. The only time I ever went to Cedar point in my life was in 2000, and i waited 5 hours to get on MF. I nearly **** my pants and pissed. whatever the ****, you name it. Back seat at that.

I live about a 1 hour drive from US/Canada - New york border and about 2-2.5 Hours from the US/Canada - MIchigan Border. Canada isn't that far from the united states, its only neighbouring countries with it. It all depends on how fast you drive, where your comming from, traffic etc. Maybe if your comming from the Yukon or way up north its far but from Ontario it isnt a journey. Im sure ALOT of the people on here who are from the US travel 6-8 hours to get to parks, and if your from the Toronto-Hamilton-Niagara Area its about 7.5 hours to PKI, 7.5 to SFGadv, 5.5 to CP, 4? to GL, 1.5 to SFDL, 6-7 to La ronde(guessing). If you didn't know.. look at a map, Ontario is a hudge province but southern ontario hangs way down into the states. The tip of SOUTH-ON lines up equivalently with the Northernmost part of California.

Three new pics have been posted to the SFoG site, showing the completed brake run / station area.

Happiness is like peeing your pants. Everyone can see it, but only you can feel the warmth. Trip pics are here: http://www.pbase.com/jhbd99.
I've only got 124 coasters thus far. But I'm better than NitroDave, he only has 123 at last count.

;)

Phantom's Revenge is better than the B&M Hypers, but thats just IMO. I like the ridiculous speed and ejector air on the Phantom. B&M is kinda finesse, but not bad by any means.
Well, I've been on Phantom's Revenge and Raging Bull. I love Raging Bull, but Phantom is hands down the favorite here.
All I have to say is back seat on the Bull owns! No disrespect to any of the other coasters but you gotta love the air you get there.

Don't Fight It, Ride It, RAGING BULL!!!!!!- Six Flags Great America

Meh. It was good. But the back of Phantom, over *that* drop and *those* double downs and hills after the ravine...I've yet to feel more violently good air on anything except Jackrabbit's double down.

But, then, I need to get to SFNE.

Raging Bull doesn't touch Phantom's Revenge.

Two different levels entirely.
