Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 screen shots posted by Infogrames

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 publisher Infogrames today posted shots of the forthcoming game in conjunction with the E3 show, going on now in Los Angeles. The shots include Intamin box track, Arrow 4D, Giovanola hypers, new theme elements and scenario editing.

See the screen shots from Infogrames.

The only way I'll be in any way dissapointed is if there aren't any flat rides I saw the word TOP SPIN in the rides list but that is already in the game as gravitron so we will have to see also didnt see any carnival games of skill but the tunnels roofs new coaster types and such will make up for whats not there in most cases

looks like the next KIMBERLY LAKE park is gonna be great

The game looks like it's going to make alot of us very happy again. I'm very excited about all the new things that we'll be able to do with it.

Jeff, I totaly agree about PC Accelerator mag, I'm about to go and read all of my old issues. *sniff* I miss it so much.

Seriously, for those of you complaining about the screenshots-STOP! If you don't like the game, don't buy it. To be honest, unless they went to a POV, the graphics couldn't get much better. I can't think of a thing that I cant see clearly on RCT, so what's the dif? I'm personally excited just to see the game, and will NOT judge it in advance, anyways. So let's just see what happens, K?

Some of you just wont be happy with anything.

I can't wait. I personally don't care that the graphics aren't all that "improved". I was really hopeing that they didn't change all that much. If it ain't broke...

So far, so good. Now lets just see some new flats. Judgeing by what has been said, I really think we will.

Let me say that this game looks to totally improve over RCT. I know the graphics are the same in a lot of ways, if not all ways, but I don't care. I loved the graphics before, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Seeing the Intamin box track, the list of some of the rides, a Jet Star (yeah!), X (even though it's sad) and the theming and stuff, it looks incredible!!! :) I can't wait! Bring it on Infogrames!

Did anybody notice the transfer track? Yes!!! Realism!!!

THIS IS GONNA ROCK! Check out that rad building with the cogs and fire coming from the roof top in the 2nd pic. Glad I won't have to raise land all the time.

MFnSOB, please do me a favor and cover your eyes.. I'm about to complain some more.

Well I guess the screen shots confirm that this is not RCT v2. It is in fact RCT v1 expansion #3.

Graphics are not as important as gameplay.. but they ARE important. And when you have the capability to do it better anything less is half-assed. So that's why I am dissapointed that they're sticking with the 8bit graphics. In 1999 it was a speed issue, today it's not, so I see no reason for it.

They could have also increased the resolution but chose not to. Shadows would have been a nice touch to cut down on confusion. Smooth terrain (ala Zoo Tycoon) would been a relatively easy to add and would have been a fantastic feature. Unfortunately Sawyer is not interested in that kind of stuff. It makes me wonder exactly what was so difficult about this upgrade that it took 2 years to develop?

I will be surprised if RCT2 hits the Top10 in sales for more than a few months straight (unlike RCT1 which was in the Top10 for nearly 2 years). Maybe that's all Sawyer wants... I dunno. But from a sales standpoint I can tell you that calling this RCT2 is a bad move becuase when sales dive after gamers get their first taste it will spell the end for the Roller Coaster Tycoon saga... Infograms' financial officer is probably foaming at the mouth right about now.

In any case, speaking as a former RCT addict, I definitely look forward to it and hope Infograms does the smart thing and set the price appropriately for what it really is. *** This post was edited by Phyter on 5/23/2002. ***

If graphics are so important, than why is RCT one of the top selling PC games of all time? There were better looking games out at the same time.

The answer: Gameplay, Gameplay, Gameplay.

The Sims is nothing revolutionary graphics wise, but guess what, it's one of the best selling PC games ever. Did anybody play Civ III? Best game ever in my opinion. That game has looked the same for ten years, but that's because the graphics have little impact on gameplay.

I can not possibly see how this game will not be a best seller. Why? Because Chris Sawyer knows how to make games that people want to play, not just look at. *** This post was edited by Mike Slisinger on 5/23/2002. ***

I'm as excited as the next but I will say this...the most important thing to me is asthetic realism. Lets face it, that first shot it kinda dissapointing. We all knew rides like the 4-d were coming, but I want Realistic Supports. That looks pitiful. Im glad the graphics were left as is but there needs to be more complexity in the supports. That and I was looking forward to recreating viper with a decently accurate first drop. Looks like that wont be possible either. Just first impressions.

Dave Drools.... Couple of other things 1) Notice how the supports eem to be more spread out in the last picture. 2) COULD that spiral coaster tick box on that option screen be the Intamin Pipeline coaster??? Name thed Spiral coaster at the moment???? PLEASE GOD lol.

Graphics are astill speed issues im afraid. not every country has all 1.3ghz etc processers. alot of my mates still have 133mhz and that style PC (i even have one upstairs) the graphix do looks crisper and these shots have been rezized which looses some quality so i think they have been improved a bit. (WHo knows maybe shadows is a changeable feature lol)

A thought though wouldend shaddows be odd since it like a year every 10mins :p

I'm afraid some of you youngsters aren't taking into consideration those of us who do not upgrade our systems every 6 months. Personally, I'm GLAD the game isn't "changing" graphically much. I also know that I'm not the only "old" person out there who plays RCT. We aren't all computer geeks with the latest in video and sound cards.

All I wanted were newer coasters, the ability to create scenariosoptions WITHOUT a trainer that crashes my PC, and more scenery/food/games/booth options...which I'm getting.

What do you mean "increase the resolution?" The resolution was, and always has been, set by you, not the game.

I love how people talk about "Sawyer" like they know what's going on in his head, and know what he's interested in. That's good fun. I give the man credit as he has done what no other developer has in years... do it alone. One guy wrote everything. As a developer myself, I have a ton of respect for that.

When I compare the differences in other sims (Dungeon Keeper comes to mind), I don't find this to be out of the ordinary at all.

I just can't wait to challenge people with new scenarios!

Wow, those screenshots are great! That Intamin track is just beautiful, and the trains look incredible! I'll be curious to see if the cable lift is noticeably faster, as it is in real life.

Someone above mentioned the Trams...could this mean there will be a parking lot?

Aaron, loving the Reverchon and Schwarzkopf cars!

oh boy! I can't wait. I love it and will buy if it comes out but hope that infro adds more things.

The RCT2 Screenshots look AMAZING! I can see as to why some people would be disapointed with this being released as a sequel rather then an expansion pack. (i would have liked to see a new view added in the ride window so you could get a view from a park guest thats on the ride)

But then again, if you look at the new terrain/scenario editor, and all of the other stuff that has been added to the game, making this a sequel makes alot more sense. Also the gameplay will be more stable since the expansion packs did cause some problems with the original RCT Code. (atleast the Loopy Landscapes Expanion pack for me..kept causing my RCT to crash)

There may also be some new features that havent been announced yet, or that Chris will decide to add while finishing the game! :)

So don't say your disapointed with the game (you haven't even played it yet!!), because you know that if you liked the first RCT your going to love RCT2 and all of its new additions.

The game looks great ! New Style coasters...Hopfully there are more flatrides, maybe even building your own waterpark... But I really hope theres a multi-player option for it, that would really send it over the top for me

You really need to get some more BRAN in your diet

My only question is will the height of drop to speed ratio be fixed for the sequal?
Ok I tried to make a list of things that I saw in the screen shots that looked new, add to this list (or subtract) if you see anything that I over looked.

-Gio hyper
-Intamin mega
-Intamin impulse
-suspended swinging floorless
-twisting vertical drop
-Reverchon style spinning mice
-Mack mine train
-Schwarzkopf speed racer
-walkways on brake runs and lift hills
-separate load and unload platforms
-dual load/unload on flumes
-covered walkways
-Higher height limit
-better transitions ex. swooping drops and gradual hill crests
-4D
-smarter peeps (notice all the double wide paths)
-Soap Box Racers
-streamlined monorail
-trams
-ATM
-1st Aid Booth
-industrial themeing
-dual tracks on reverse free falls
-elevator lift option on some coasters
-slanted walkways now become "stairs"
-new palm tree style
-stackable snowballs
-larger ride signs
-tunnels for coasters!!!
-see through ground option
-roof option for landscaping
-and my favorite the scenario editor, which allows you to MOVE the entrance gate
-plus more

I'm disappointed not to see any new flat rides. Maybe they are keeping those a surprise for right now.
