I decided to pull out MAX because I'd been playing MAX2 a lot and wanted to try some of my old favorites and try some new 9's since I've gotten better. I tried Exotic Ethnic.. WOW! That's hard. Didn't even come close to passing. Same with Rhythm and Police. I could not figure out how to hit those arrows. I can't explain them but it's like serious double stepping. Anyone got any tips?
ANYWAY! I also tried Orion. 78 Civilization Mix and liked it A LOT. I failed my first two times but my third time.. passed it.. with a B! The results screen is still showing because I'm so proud of myself :). Only 12 Boo's and 4 Almost's. Definitely going to try it at the arcade and see what happens, but I've been finding that lately I'm doing a lot better at home than at the arcade, so who knows.
So, yeah. My major DDR accomplishment. :)
Here is a tip on Exotic Ethnic and R&P and hopefully this will help:
Know that it takes NO DOUBLE-STEPPING what-so-ever to pass both songs on heavy (and look good doing it too). You can and should alternate feet when playing them, and to do that, you need to learn how to cross-over. If you don't know how, i recommend playing Spin the Disc on Heavy because patterns like 'left, down, right' 'right, down, left' 'left, up, right' and so forth are found in the song. It's an easy 8fter and there's space in between the crosses so u don't freak out.
Basically, for a 'left, down, right' pattern, you hit 'left' with your left foot like normal, 'down' with your right foot like normal, then 'right' with your left foot, crossing over the front of your body and yes facing a different direction other than towards the screen. I notice a lot of people fear cross-overs because they aren't comfortable with their body facing any other direction other than the screen. So...
...get over it. ;) Challenge yourself and try some crossing. Don't, however go out and try something drastic. Build your crossing skills from square 1 and work your way up. When you feel that you are pretty good in the crossing area, play Can't Stop Falling in Love: (Speed Mix).
Now Exotic Ethnic and Rhythm and Police are a bit differnt then CSFiL, but just realize that don't need to double step, and you'll be alright. I used to suck at EE, but then i saw someone do it, and i purposely looked at their feet to see if they double stepped even once. To my surprise, they didn't so i tried it, andon my second try i did it. And i've been busting it out ever since. R&P came a short time after because i think it has harder cross-overs than EE, but don't give up. You can do it. :)

Mini-update: passed another 9 on MAX - Broken My Heart.. but didn't like it at all! It had A LOT of jumps within the 8th's.. which I'm not very fond of and it just didn't seem very fun, but passed nevertheless.
However, I always do some double-stepping on both EE and R&P. It's not a sin to do it that way, you just have to have really fast feet. There's one part on R&P where sometimes I hit U, R, U all with my right foot in a row... it's crazy.
But maybe on R&P, the hard part you're talking about is the gallops? That's what slowed me down in beating that song. These gallops are NOT like the ones in most songs. Most gallops start on the 16th note and end on the quarter note (as in Tsugaru, Matsuri Japan, Cowgirl, True, Take Me Away, Kakumei, etc.). R&P's gallops start on the quarter note and end on the 16th note. So instead of going ba-DUM, ba-DUM, they go BA-dum, BA-dum. ;) O_o heh, whatever.
Anyway, the only other songs I can think of with extended runs of this kind of gallop are Saint Goes Marching and Speed Over Beethoven. If you're used to the other type of gallop, it can be really hard to adapt. Good luck!
EDIT: I just remembered that Conga Feeling ends with a long run of this kind of gallop. So try that. Oh, and once you master those, try the even harder off-beat gallop (as in DXY! and Luv to Me). :)

Got Konamix back today, and played for awhile. Passed some new 9's which is always good! Afronova Primeval, Dynamite Rave and Paranoia Rebirth, all with C's. Tried Dead End and Orion AMeuro, but didn't pass either, but got really close on Orion.
Which brings up a question. I know the grading scale for A's tougher on Konamix, but is it easier for other grades? I ask because I didn't think I did very well on the new 9's I passed, and was surprised when I recieved a C, when I had 25 or so misses and a lot of almosts, which seems more like a D rather than a C to me.
I was noticing last night that there are a couple of slow songs on MAX2 that require some *seriously* fast stepping. I'm talking about Conga Feeling and Long Train Runnin'. I can't get better than a B and C, respectively, on those songs, even though neither are catas.
The problem is that they both have 16th note runs, but not just RLRLR or URURU, they are like DLULDLU. I bet those steps on CF are faster than the eighth notes in Max 300.

Another thing I forgot to ask. I played Drop Out last night and I think I heard somewhere that it used to be an 8, but was moved up to a 9. Definitely seemed like a 9 to me, those jumping sections were insane and those 8ths at the end were pretty wild.
Although it cracks me up that it was made a 9-footer, yet Maxx Unlimited standard, which is SO MUCH HARDER than Drop Out (and at least 3/4 of all 9-footers) remains an 8.

Maybe it's just me, but i think it falls in the category of medium-hard 8fter.

On a side note, I saw someone pass Maxx Unlimited today on Doubles Heavy...tough stuff.

I haven't played DDR at the arcade for a long time, but I did play at the arcade at Lagoon on Saturday, but other than that, I haven't played in the arcade for about 2 weeks. Maybe I'll head out to the arcade tomorrow and get in some good games of DDR and Dance Maniax :).

Oh - I've just learned that Columbus' last Putt-Putt Golf & Games is closing Nov. 30. This sucks because, not only do they have a DDR Extreme, but also, I love Putt-Putt! When I moved here in 1995, there were four of them, and now there are none. :( I even played in the tournaments this year.

Also, I counted the number of 9's that I've passed and I'm up to 22 now, and that's NOT counting Witch Doctor or Waka Laka! :)
Oh, and i wanted to see what was all the fuss about regarding Waka Laka so i tried it out. It's a pretty fun song, worthy of a 9ft. rating.

The only reason I played it was because my friend (who is a standard player) chose it and I didn't pass it, which really pissed me off because it was an 8 and because the song annoyed me to no end. I played it again, only to prove I could pass it.
