Progress Reports and Accomplishments

Played a little at the arcade today. Passed another 9, Matsuri Japan with a C, and also A'ed my first 9 footer, My Summer Love. I know it's probably the easiest 9 there is, but still!

I also played Witch Doctor Heavy for the first time, and passed it with a C. 8 footer my rear end!

Thought this was pretty cool that I whipped out tonite - my favorite songs so far in Max2 in a nonstop set:

Break Down (Std), Heaven (Hvy), Celebrate Nite (Std), Silent Hill 3rd Xmas (Chal), Kind Lady (Std), Kind Lady Interlude (Chal), Blow my Whistle (Std), End of the Century (Std), In the Navy (Std), Think Ya Better D (Hvy) and my favorite on the game so far, Dream A Dream (Hvy).

Got a B on the set too! I was quite impressed since before this game arrived, I was only a 6 or 7 foot standard player. Now I can nail some Heavys without a problem!

And is anyone else impressed with this Captain Jack guy? I looked up some of his stuff on Kazaa and for someone who usually doesn't even touch this kind of music outside of this game, I really like what he does. The full version of Dream A Dream is a really cool song! And if you wanna tie it back to coasters, his song "The Race" would be absolutely perfect as either line or station music for Dragster ... "Yea it's a rush, a race, to outer space. It's a rush, a race, an amazing pace". Heh, I'm rather proud of myself for that one ...

Witch Doctor heavy should not only be a 9-footer, but also it's probably harder than 90% of all "real" 9-footers. Congrats on passing it.

I got another 9-footer AA last night (my fourth one, I think): Kakumei. Really surprised me, I didn't even know I'd full-comboed it until it was over.

EDIT! Kel, I spent Saturday morning at GameWorks (as promised ;)) and I tried Max 300 on my first song. Surprise, I got farther than I had ever gotten before! I made it about 30 steps past the freeze, and then I could not make my legs move anymore. I will have to keep working on it!

I impressed myself in that I passed So Deep after all that practice at home... and, I held my combo until the very end, when the rhythm gets funkified.

Congrats on those who progressed! ^_^ I myself haven't done much, except try MAX300 and Survivor on 1.5x. To my surprise, i did a whole grade letter better on both of them (from C to B).So that's cool. I messed up my shin, though, so it hurts when i play. Thus, i've cut back until i'm at full strength again, then i'll be aiming towards getting a C or better on Across the Nightmare(oni), trip machine Climax, and Orion.78 (civ mix).

So until then, not many updates will come from me ^^;;

P.S. See, toldya it might work, Den ;) Keep at it.

My best song so far has been Break Down Heavy. I AA'd, but I got a lot of greats. Anyone else think it shouldn't be a 9?

I think Break Down should be a 9. It doesn't have any really challenging rhythms, but some of those 8th's are pretty tricky to hit. I really had to learn to move my body to hit them without using one foot really quickly. It's probably one of the easier 9's, but worthy of it's rating.

Went to the arcade today, not much news, but I did AA Senorita heavy. Not very difficult, but it has some pretty big runs of 8ths. Also played La Bamba for the first time(by accident) and found it was actually pretty fun.

One last thing, does anyone else thing Waka Laka heavy is hard? I tried it for the first time and failed, but passed it later on x1.5. I really hate it when there's double steps within 8th's, they're really hard to read and I'm not good at hitting them.

Are you guys crazy?!? Breakdown was one of the last catas I beat! It's up there with HVAM and End of the Century when it comes to double stepping.

Yes, Waka Laka should be a 9-footer, if only for that one jump-step section in the middle. Practice DXY! and Stoic heavy if you want to get better at jump-steps. Stoic is a 9-footer, but I think it's easier than Waka Laka.

Here's me all proud of passing all the three footers...

Maybe I shouldn't have said easy, but I guess I'm just assuming it's an "easy 9" (isn't that an oxy moron anyway?) because it's one of the few 9's I've passed without passing by the skin of my teeth. One other thing I noticed about it is that it's a real stamina buster. After I finish playing it, I feel like I need to die.

Richard, we all started out on 3-footers! :) Keep on practicing and pretty soon you'll conquer the harder songs.

Just for clarity, AB, most people say "jumps" for hitting two arrows at once, and "double step" when you have to hit two arrows in a row with the same foot (i.e., if the step pattern was L, D, R, U. You'd double-step unless you wanted to do a 360 spin). :)

Richard - I clearly remember being extremely proud of passing Holic and Senorita light! Keep at it!

Oh! Then in the above post I meant I hate it when jumps are amid 8th's. I just can't read them and have a hard time hitting them.

The thing is I really like jumps when they're alone, you know? Like during the chant part of Afronova and lots of other songs. But I despise them when they're within 8th's, a la Waka Laka, Orion Civilization and the end of Be Lovin'. I can pretty much full combo Be Lovin' but that ending just destroys me.

Well, my shin feels better so did some DDRing today and the day before.

UPDATE: Got a B on Orion.78 (civ mix) And i AA'd Burning the Floor (momo mix). It was my first time ever playing the song.Oh i also got one of those memory cars so i can gave my high scores and my grades. *thumbs up for himself*

And hey, R, don't get discouraged! I remember when a 10 year old whooped my aaaaaaaass on DDR. And i think she was doing 3fters. Keep at it, and you'll find yourself getting better. :)

I just played Burning the Floor Momo Mix for the first time about a week ago. What an awesome song! That tempo change literally *scared* me.
I *love* that tempo change! Probably the best one.

Yeah, that tempo change scared the mess outta me! O_o And since i was playing it on 2x, that arrow came up fast! I was like "The HELL?!" But then i got it under control. ;)

I'll have to agree with you Den, that tempo change is a nice one. :) It's up there with Sakura, Heaven is a 57', and Para Survivor

Let's Groove is a nice one, too. And Legend of Max. And Maxx Unlimited for that matter.

I almost automatically love any song with any tempo change or stop. It just feels so cool to know exactly when those things are coming...

Yeah, tempo changes and stops are always fun. My favorite stop would probably have to be Tsugaru's stop before the arrows are even halfway up the screen.

Anyway, lately I've been noticing I've been liking the slower songs a lot more than I used to. I used to HATE slow songs, but now I'm playing songs like My Summer Love, Jam Jam Reggae, Sana Morette Ne Ente, Only You and Radical Faith a lot more now. I also want to try Orion Amero, but my friend is borrowing Konamix and I want to try it at home a few times before I try it in the arcade.

The key to playing slow songs is never using the speed mods. It looks so much cooler when the screen is packed with arrows and you can still read them... or, "arrow sex" as some people say. ;)

If i were to try and AA a slow song song like my summer love, i'd probably use speed mods, but if i were just playing it, i'd keep it on 1x just because arrow carpets, or arrow ssex, looks cool ^^;;

Oh man, i'm so pissed. I got 1 great on Let the Beat Hit 'em (classic R&B version) at the very end! 1 GREAT from my 1st heavy AAA! *mopes*

I think my closest to an AAA on a heavy song is 8 greats on Let's Groove. I've gotten between 8-12 greats on a few other heavy songs too - Cutie Chaser Morning Mix, Heaven, Bad Routine, Take It to the Morning Light, to name a few.

I did a great attack at the arcade once accidentally - Rhythm and Police heavy, I ended up with something like 250 greats and 60 perfects.... O_o <---- I don't know what that means, but I have a feeling it applies here.
