Progress Reports and Accomplishments

Sure. Well if you can pass Tsugaru, try Tsugaru Apple Mix... a little different, maybe a little easier. Can't Stop Falling In Love Speed Mix is challenging, but the rhythms aren't really complex, it's just stamina. Same with Dead End. If you're good at galloping, try Matsuri Japan. If you can get 3/4 of the way through So Deep, you probably can clear Twilight Zone. My Summer Love is easy except for the bridge. Irresistiblement probably should be 8 feet.

Those are all the ones on the easier side that I can think of. Don't be intimidated, if you fail, you fail, no big deal.

Progress report: Lately I've been playing on a 5th mix machine, which has a bunch of songs I've never played, so the other day I beat all the 9-footers on there that I hadn't played before (I think): At any rate, now I can add to my list:

Hypnotic Crisis
No Limit
Paranoia Eternal
Romansuno Kami-Sama (it was just a Japanese symbol, I had to look up the title)
B4U Glorious Style

That last one is a "long version," which you can't play on your last turn, since it's about 3 and a half minutes long. Talk about a stamina-killer!

I love 5th mix.. it's so... quirky. My local aracde has an Extreme and Max2 and they're downgrading the Max2 to a 5th, but they sure are taking a long time!

Oh, the english name for Romansuno Kami-Sama is God of Romance, which I adore. I'm a sucker for Judy Crystal's songs, Nori Nori Nori is definitely one of my all time favorite DDR songs.

Not much news for me. I haven't played at the arcade since my last post, but I did play a little MAX at home and ALMOST passed Matsuri Japan on heavy, which seemed pretty easy (for a 9, at least!). I don't want to make excuses, but I think my crappy soft pad had a lot to do with my failure. Next time I head over to the arcade I'll give it a try and see what happens.

By the way, thanks for the suggestions, Den. I'll be sure to try them out next time I'm at the arcade.

Oh man, Nori Nori Nori was the song I learned on (6th mix machine).

Matsuri Japan is not too hard to pass, but to AA it's quite tricky. I have tried many times... but I almost guarantee you your soft pads are screwing you up. Here's a good example - once I was "demonstrating" DDR to some friends, so I played Matsuri Japan on my metal pad and got an A easily. Then they started playing, and I got the soft pad when it was my turn again. The other player picked MJ again, and I failed it.

Now this is the highest quality soft pad I've got, with the foam zippered inside. It works just fine for light/standard play (my wife loves it), but for heavy you really need something that's not going to move 2 feet on you during the song... and something where you can tell where your feet are.

In case you don't want to slog through the thread about pads - I got mine (a BNS metal pad) about a year ago through eBay, and despite a few problems, it's still working great. The problems were nothing a little duct tape and a box cutter couldn't fix.

Bah, soft works just fine. Yep, I've AA'd a heavy song in doubles on soft pads. Real DDR players can adjust for slippage on the fly. ;)

What time does the water show start?

Yeah, you AA'd Cutie Chaser Morning Mix. My *wife* has AA'd that song on Heavy. Try doing, say, Paranoia Evolution and see how long your soft pads last. ;)

I did Paranoia Evolution on standard and had no problem. Ditto for Healing Vision (Angelic Mix) (well, actually my body gave out on that one, but I was comboing up until I fell over). So in any case, up to 7-footers without a problem thus far.

But I've A'd harder songs in doubles heavy on the soft pads. Again... I just track where they move to. :)

Aiight then, come to *my* house and try it, 'cause apparently your carpet has some sort of Velcro (TM)-like attachment to DDR pads. Mine end up about 2 feet away and turned at about a 30-degree angle to the TV after a heavy song, and after doubles, the two pads are more than a foot apart. :)

Considering the college I go to has a 20 cent MAX2 machine, I've been able to build quite a lengthy list of 9-footers. My most recent and proudest one is Healing Vision: Angelic Mix (my body gave out as well). I've been working at So Deep constantly but have yet to pass it (although close). Off the top of my head, the 9-footers I've passed are: HV:AM, Burning Heat, CSFILSM, Dynamite Rave, Tsugaru, Break Down, LoM Standard, Matsuri Japan, Captain Jack GR,... I know theres a few more I'm missing.

I haven't played on an Extreme machine since I left CP about a month ago...I'm sure I can get a few more when I do. I'll be in Nashville this weekend, and I may stop by that Dance Beat Arcade place if my time permits.

Went down to the arcade today, not much exciting news, though.

Passed 2 new 9 footers, Irresistiblement and My Summer Love, which was painfully easy for a 9 footer. Also passed Tsugaru again, but didn't pass Matsuri Japan :( Also A'ed I Do I Do I Do which had been giving me trouble.

Also "discovered" Dance Maniax. My arcade has had it for awhile, and I've played it a few times and thought it was fun but not much else. Today a fellow DDR'er showed me how to change the difficulty to harder sonds, and suggested using my legs for the lower sensors instead of just my hands. I'm glad he did, because it was DAMN fun. I was also excited to see one of my favorite Extreme songs, Heaven is a '57 Metallic Grey was on there, which was really fun because at some points you had to cover 3 sensors at the same time, so it forced you to use your legs.

So, yeah, today was an ok day. :)

Over the summer, to put it plain and simple, iv'e gotten tight.

EDIT: well, maybe not tight...but at least better. :END EDIT

EDIT 2: damn, haven't been here in a while, i forgot, sorry Jeff. :END EDIT

I tried roulette a few days ago because i couldn't pick a song to play. >_> But here's what's happened:

I've beaten almost every 9fter with at least a C there are just a few more i need to try out that i really don't care to try out 'cuz i don't like the song. ^^; I have a new love for Frozen Ray, and Colors on Oni. MAX300 i can pass as my first song everytime. (If i play it as my first song) But not to much for Para Survivor although i'm working on passing it at will. AA'd Spin the Disc, A'd Sakura, A'd Heaven is a 57', A'd Afronova (i love the beginning crossovers) A'd other crap. =D I have a few AAs besides StD but nothing special or exciting. I've AA'd Senorita tho.

Oh and i'm trying to get better at para eternal. (the new one that ranks up there with the "Hard 9fters")

I need to make a complete list of songs that i can pass, and with what grade. I'll be starting that new project and i'll be updating results as they happn.

What time does the water show start?

I finally passed So Deep. Now that I can practice it at home, it's a bit easier. :) Although I still had to use x1.5.

I believe the only 9-footer I have not passed now is Cartoon Heroes. At least from all the 9-footers on the U.S. home games and MAX2 and Extreme arcade versions.

It amazes me how much harder the "hard" 10-footers are than even the hardest 9-footer. I'm talking about the Paranoia Survivors and the Maxes. Whenever I try one of these on heavy, I usually last about 15 seconds. Once, I got to the freeze on Max 300, and I nearly died. So, kudos to Kel, I guarantee I will never pass Maxx Unlimited or PSM!

Oh, got a few more arcade AA's:
Freckles
Dam Dariram
Super Star
Can't Stop Fallin' in Love Speed Mix (first arcade cata AA, w00t!)
Ecstasy

Den! I know you can do MAX300, man. If you've beaten every single 9fter except Cartoon Heroes then you can definitely do MAX (i think CH is harder anyway) I might suggest though, that you take all you AAing methods and throw them out the window when you play MAX. I might also suggest you play MAX as your first song. ...

...

...*awkward silence*

...

...yes, i said as your first song. Especially if you mostly play 9fters like myself, going through 3 9ers and THEN MAX300? That's tough. And i think it's safe to say that you can read the arrows fine, it's just the stamina. So try it as your first song, you may surprise yourself.

Oh and good job on AAing CSFiL. (I'm working on that one now ^^; )

Play Max 300 as my first song? And lose my money and my turn all at once?!? ;)

Yes, I have no problem reading the arrows; my feet just can't move fast enough to hit those 8th-note runs. I also have problems comboing the last 8th-note run on standard as well. :(

You know, come to think of it, I don't think I've ever tried Max 300 at the arcade. Maybe I'll give it a whirl this weekend.

Meanwhile, I'm supervising a big group of high schoolers at CP this Saturday, but I may have a few minutes to play one game of DDR. I'm trying to decide on my "set" if that happens.... one that will impress yet that I won't fail. ;) I'm leaning toward 321 Stars, CSFILSM and Sakura, with possible stand-ins Tsugaru, Ska a Go Go or Burning Heat. Me = nerd + whore. ;)

------------------
A day is a drop of water in the ocean of eternity. A week is seven drops.

Haha! Yeah, like you, i'm such a nerd when it comes to DDR :D Ahem, but anyhow...i usually play on my toes when i play MAX, no matter how bad i wanna try and combo it...i'm not fast enough to use my AA methods...so i play on my toes, i'm faser that way but i sacrifice "Perfects" to gain the speed.

Not only that, but i wish i was at CP :( Not fair, although Magic Mountain's not that bad at all...)

Plus, i like the list of songs you have to impress ;) Might I suggest Rhythm and Police and/or Exotic Ethnic.
------------------
Rolla coasta lova, and a DDR maniac

R&P is a possibility.... although chances are high that I might fail Exotic Ethnic, so that's a no go. ;)

You'd envy the playing conditions at Cedar Point. The two Extreme machines are about 15 feet apart, both in front of the huge entryway to the arcade, about 5 feet from being on the midway itself, screens facing the midway. Both are VERY loud (as in, hurts your ears when you put the quarters in). It's so hilariously easy to get crowds. w00t!!1

------------------
A day is a drop of water in the ocean of eternity. A week is seven drops.

Wow, you people are insane. I have never heard of AAAs. I've never gotten an AA! I rarely gets As, for crying out loud. I guess I just have to play it more, but it's a bit too much for my brain. I guess I need to speed up my reflexes.

I'm stuck at about 3.8 or 4.1 feet. Five feet are too much for me. Waaaay too much. But four feet challenge me and I can generally pass with Cs and Ds. Maybe a B here and there, with the exception of Cartoon Heros (DDR Extreme, light mode). I can get an A on that sometimes.

Well, it sounds like you guys are insane. Nine feet? That's wild!

2003 Raptor Rides: 246
Raptor Rules the Sky!

I've only gotten one AAA and I've been playing for about 5 months now. It was on Never Let You Down light. And I've only gotten on AA on anything higher than a 7, In the Navy on heavy which is an 8.

I was in a situation like you where I was stuck at 6's for about 2 months and couldn't pass anything higher. Try using speed mods to pass higher level songs, then don't use them after you've tried it with mods a couple of times. That's what I did and I went right from 6's to 8's and I'm now passing 9's without speed mods.

Not much news for me. I got a B on Tsugaru which is my highest score yet. Attempted Maxx Unlimited and got about halfway through, a little past the 2nd slowdown, and then promptly failed when the arrows rocketed back up at 330 bpm :)

I suck at MaxX Unlimited, plain and simpe...it's to hard, but i'll keep trying.

New acomplishment:

drumroll please...

...

...

...*hears crickets*

...

...

...well at least there's SOME noise...

...

...*doesn't even hear the crickets*

...>_>

anywayz, my new accomplishment, i have successfully beaten every 9fter with a C or better with the exception of Across the Nightmare on Oni, and another song, I got D's on both... >_>;; I'll provide the list and grades later on and i'll update you on scores as i progress...right now i'm aiming to get those D's knocked off.
