Popular coasters that you just didn't "get"

'Moosh + Gator - I thought we already established that you two were the kings (or maybe queens?) of the haters.

I had Timbers listed on my post, and took it out 'cause I was talking Beemer hypers....yes, that coaster was OVERRATED based on my experience.....hope to experience it running better someday...

I know, I know... Just can't resist giving you guys a hard time. :)

Sorry but, Magnum makes my list as well. It might have been a good thing in its time but I do not see why people still flock to it. It is a rough ride with uncomfortable seating. Compared to Millie and Apollo's Chariot, it is nothing in my book. Probably the reason it has been so popular for so long is because it was 'the first' of its generation. The first is always the most significant. Look at X. I bet that in a few years when other parks have added 4D coasters to their repertoire, that 1 is bound to be better than X. But, people will still love X. Why? Because it was the first. That is just my analysis though. Blue Streak at CP is another one I do not care for. Its Hershey counterpart, The Comet, is much better, and it is older too.

I'd have to say I "didn't get" The Legend. [the crowd gasps] It was a good ride, but nowhere near "top 10" material, IMO. Very little (or what I call "imagined") airtime, crushing lats (painfully so) and a herky-jerky helix. I covered the train and rode it 7 times too. I don't think it was the G trains either, because I loved Mega Zeph.

Agreed, a coaster not living up to its hype or reputation is not the same as a coaster that just sucks. It's too bad that people take offense whenever their beloved coaster gets some no-so-great reviews. Come on, we all have different opinions... [Insert 2Hostyl's well-known quote here] Clearly for every coaster around there will be people who think it exceeds or falls short of whatever reputation it has gained.

Also, Antuan's post about "playing Russian roulette" to get a good ride is so true. From my experience, a world-class coaster will deliver in any seat. Sure, you might not get as much air or you might get off with a few more bruises (back cars of the Beast and SoB come to mind) but the ride still rocks. But that's just my opinion....

I've heard many people talk about enjoying their rides on suspended coasters, most notably PKI's Top Gun, but suspendeds have never impressed me, especially Top Gun. There just wasn't a lot of excitment in the ride for me, and it was way too short. BBW at BGW was a little better, mostly because of the town and the drop over the water, but still wasn't nearly as good as the B&M hyper on the other side of the park...

You don't have to love every coaster to be an enthusiast. Besides, this isn't a hate thread, its about roller coasters that somebody else thought was great that you personally didn't. Its all about opinion.

There is only 2 coasters that i didn't get- Magnum and Goliath. Magnum is just plain awful. It was rough boring and the airtime is extremely painful. I don't see how anyone could possibly enjoy this ride. Those people really need to get on Superman at SFNE to see what roller coasters are supposed to be like.

Goliath IMO was a huge mistake. SFMM could have gotten a B&M or an Intamin and had one of the best coasters in the world but instead they chose that.

Magnum was sooooooo dissapointing! I was expecting so much from this coaster and got nothing. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

This coaster has a great view of Lake Erie, but the rest of the coaster just plained sucked. I got absoloutly NO air, all that I got was a very rough coaster that I really did not care for. I really don't know what all of the hype is about. People rave and rave about this coaster and then overlook far superior coasters like Mamba at Worlds of Fun. One of the mysteries of life I guess!

So many coasters, so little vacation time....

After my first ride on Shivering Timbers I was disapointed. But after 49 more rides the ride grew on me and became my second favorite woodie! :)

Nothing compares to the airtime you recieve on the first half of the ride! Although I was expecting a little more from the bunny hops returning to the station, they did offer some floater air. (I still say the double up screws up the timing of the second of the half)

Rides that have disapointed me include...

MF- Loved my first ride! But every ride after seems to be less thrilling and less exciting to the point were it became a yawn.

Magnum- The first time I rode this I was completely blown away! But in the last couple of seasons it has became so rough I can't ride it. I found myself screaming "OUCH!" on every single bunny hop. IMO the worst lap bars of any coaster!

Kumba- Just found it boring. Sorry :(

Gwazi- I like airtime, and this ride doesn't have it.

Hulk- While the first half of the ride was awsome, the ending was a complete bore.

rollerfreak, no air on Magnum? uh huh.... Usually the complaint is that people are hitting the lap bar so hard that it gets painful. I'd like to hear of a coaster that gives more air than Magnum, because frankly, I haven't ridden one.

Hmmm, I can think of 2.

Lightning racer and SOB.

Lightning Racer was decent, but nothing special in my opinion, the lap bars were horrible

Son Of Beast. Dear God, that had to be the most painfull experience of my life, it made Mean Streak seem like a Beemer.

Nitro. I looked extremely forward it to find a basically forceless ride. The airtime was nothing compared to Magnum, and S:ROS. It was a great LOOKING coaster and had comfy trains (maybe to comfortable) yet simply the coaster lacked punch...

The problem with this whole discussion is that most people have only got a couple of rides on the coasters that they “don’t get”. I don’t think you can judge any coaster based on a couple of laps. I know that I find many ‘hyped’ coasters disappointing the first time. But that doesn’t stop me from riding again. After 10+ laps and more then one visit to the park, then I will know whether I really enjoy the ride or not.
