Popular coasters that you just didn't "get"

I rode Magnum 5 times in the course of 2 days and not once was I fascinated by the experience. You are telling me that I would have to ride it 5 more times over a longer period of time, even though I am 8 hours from the point, before my opinion of it not being 'all that', is justified?

Okay my list

Magnum- The thing hurts. In the pretzel turn around i almost broke my neck. The only decent air is on the way back, and it hurt so bad that i will wear padding on my legs next time.

MF- for all i heard about this coaster i was expecting *much* more. No air at all. I think jr gemini had more.

Gemini- It is good but not THAT good.

Villain- No air all banged up

Beast- see above

two more, mantis and mean streak, can someone please explain to me what is the purpose of BREAKING down the first hill? And don't give me any of this you get more airtime in the loop crap b/c you all know that mantis was much beter in 97.

I would think that "breaking" down the first hill would be nearly impossible, what with the restraints and everything. I did love Electric Boogaloo, though, didn't you?

Why do you have to have a license to own a dog, but not to have a child?

I was at CP in June and did not notice a brake down the drop on Mantis.

I think just the opposite of Gemini. I think it is a great racing coaster that is quick and smooth with some good air time. That final helix is a treat as well. It is hard to believe that it is an Arrow being as smooth as it is.

Okay, MF has amazing amounts of air... over all the hills to/from the island, and the bunny-hop at the end... how can you say there was no air?? What the heck are you even TALKING about?

I only rode "Son of Beast" once... four weeks after it opened (prior to it being shut down to be 'fixed'). I have to say I thought it was the smoothest woodie I had ever been on, not to mention the fastest. I LOVED it. Obviously I have no idea what it's like now, but from that one ride, I cannot fathom how anyone could call it "rough" or "unfun". I thought it was amazing. The only problem I had with it is it was too short.... so the original Beast remains my favorite woodie. It *is* a bit rough, but I love that helix at the back... woah.

I love every coaster except Superman: ulimate Escape. I was surprised no one put this, i don't know why people think impulses are that great. It has a very week launch, and then the rest isn't very exciting, maybe if i went on it in the front it'd be worth it. Glad to see lots of people don't like Millennium Force, so now it migh be even better for me cause i will think it'll suck then..wow..

Lord - I share your pain. Valliant effort, tho!

Count me in for Nitro, I was expecting a better version of Apollos Chariot, but walked off underwhelmed. Its taller, steeper, newer, has a cool hammerhead and a much better helix, but for some reason is not as good. I think Apollo carries air over the entire hill, where as Nitro does not (floats up in the front, and pulls down in the back, but not constant air).

Coaster letdowns that I have are

SROS at SFA-This coaster was terribly rough for a steel and it was a pretty boring ride.

Millennium Force-To fast to be enjoyable.

Talon-Just plain forceless

Batwing-A pretty rough ride

Apollo-Not much air and pretty forceless.

Alpengeist-Once again just plain forceless

Mantis-To rough

Hypersonic-To short

Great Coasters That People Hate But I Love Are

SLC

Boomerangs

Shockwave ( PKD )

Viper ( SFGADv )

Magnum

I also don't get any Wild Mouse those things are painful. I didn't mind the one at Legoland, but the others hurt.
Batman: The Dark Knight @ SFNE
I read that it was forceful and smooth. When I rode it, it was rough and forceless. Plus, it seemed extremely short.

Magnum @ CP
Forces: No
Fun: No

Raptor @ CP
Slow and forceless. I read many good things about it, but to me it seemed mediocre at best.

Goliath @ SFMM
Except for the end helix, the ride was forceless and dull. I read about good air on the first drop, but there was nothing. And postive Gs everywhere except the end helix were extremely weak.

Superman: The Escape @ SFMM
No air at all, even though that was the #1 thing mentioned in positive reviews I read about this ride.

Interesting. Excluding Batman, all of these rides are at either CP or SFMM. Not that I've never been disappointed by other rides, but I'm just listing the biggest disappointments. This is probably because CP and SFMM coasters get most of the hype. I've noticed that the number of coasters I have enjoyed has been decreasing ever since I've started reading reviews and opinions of coasters on sites like this.

Appletreats, what seats did you ride in? I can't believe you though Magnum and especially Raptor were slow, forceless, and not fun. I always ride these rides in the first car or two, though... they're amazing and fun, full of force, and anything but slow! Did you ride Raptor *after* MF or something? I think that's the only way to perceive it as slow...

It seems that every coaster he's ridden is forceless. What kind of forces does he expect to get?

I don't know, but if he finds them, I'm getting plane tickets ASAP....;)

Millenium Force Maniac, maybe I got no air because the rude ride ops stapled me into the train sooooo much. Now for all of you who think that this roller coasters bunny hills air hurts, imagine going over those painful hills while your stapled into those god-awful trains. I got off the ride thinking that I wouldn't be able to have babies. Dang I don't like that ride.

Yet again though, I mention Mamba @ Worlds of Fun. It so far superior to Magnum that its scary. If you havn't ridden this monsterous amazing machine, then you havn't lived life to the fullest. Check it out. You won't be dissapointed, unlike Magnum(the almighty pain machine)

Of all the hypers I have ever rode, the only one that gives you even close to as crazy, forceful, and airtime filled a ride is Phantom's Revenge.

All I need is 4.5 million bucks and a half a mile long sliver of land and maybe someone could build me my very own Shivering Timbers. ;)

I have the same story. When i rode Magnum I left my lapbar a little up, not much but a little. When the B**** ride op came over she SLAMMED it down on me, and then told me to cross my legs and SLAMMED it down even more to the point where i could not uncross them until the end of the ride. It was awful.

My list ...

Alpengeist - It didn't do anything for me. I prefer Montu at BGT much better than this B&M Invert. It seemed like I could barely "feel" the elements and they all flew by too quickly.

Dueling Dragons - Very odd configuration, not paced well, and it's over way too quickly for me. I'd much rather spend my time over on Hulk.

The Beast - umm, hill, helix, helix, chain lift, hill, helix, helix, tunnel. Enough said. It's not anything spectacular, though fun.

New Flight Of Fear compared to the Old - Yes, that's right. I enjoyed the Flight of Fear before they reconfigured it with lap bars. Sure it makes it smoother, but it still gives me a headache, even though I enjoy the ride insanely.

Loch Ness Monster - Hmm, very rough, nothing too exciting. It's a hill, loop, turn, helix, loop, lift. Very boring to me, except watching the holograms on the wall is entertaining.

And if I may, here are my surprises ...

Montu - I thought this would be similar to Alpengeist, just smaller and slower. My lord was I wrong. Those first two inversions are pretty standard, fun, ofcourse, and then the third inversion hits and it disorients you like I never thought could happen. And the last inversion near the end hits my by surprise even after riding it 3 times. It never slows down!

Kumba - This ride could very well be the second coming of Jesus. It's a great coaster, very fast paced, even at the end, and the elements are extremely smooth.
